Beautiful, quaint, peaceful and oh, the breaky....

Reviewed By Mary H

So we came to this hotel from Valencia and it was such a reprieve of peace and quiet and lots of room to park your car!!! Cova (daughter of the owner) ran out to the main street to help guide us in (it's easy to find-they are just that helpful)....Cova is sooo lovely and speaks more English than she gives herself credit for. Her mom and aunt who own this haven are lovely too. I can't say a single thing bad about this hotel....in fact, when I return to Spain, I would drive out JUST to stay at this hotel. Cova's aunt makes the whole breakfast herself and it's delivered to your door-enough food to feed 6 people. I walked away from the main road and crossed a bridge and found a beautiful park like setting with trails-great walking. The only possible complaint I could begin to consider is that there isn't much to do in the evening except drive into Cuenca....so just bare that in mind ie. don't book if you are travelling with a bunch of busy teens. This is SUCH a nice haven from the busy streets of the cities of Spain and would be a nice place for a little romance if that's what you are looking for. FANTASTIC!!!!

Two words: simply brilliant World class property, great staff in an amazing location. Can’t wait to go back. We had a room overlooking the bridge and town, worth the extra little bit of cost. The town is lovely, and the restaurant, bar and facilities at Parador Cuenca were excellent

NH Ciudad de Cuenca

The Hotel NH Ciudad de Cuenca has just been renovated and it is located near restaurants and tapas , 15 walk to the shopping center el Mirador . It is just 30 minutes away from the old town on foot and on the other hand,it is 10 minutes away by car. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel too. In addition to this, there is a great area to park your vehicle and for free, this is fairly remarkable as well.

This is an excellent hotel.

The NH Ciudad de Cuenca was easy to find and, as several other reviewers have mentioned, there is ample parking on the surrounding roads and we got a space with no bother just outside the hotel. Check in was efficient and helpful, and the lady provided maps and tourist suggestions without being asked. Our double room on the sixth floor was spacious, very smart and very well appointed. The bathroom was also very smart and had good quality toiletries as well as big, fluffy towels. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is a bit of a walk from the city centre. The lady on reception suggested that it is 35 minutes, but clearly gauged our fitness levels incorrectly as we got to the centre of the new town in an easy 20 minutes - actually it wasn’t that easy, as the temperature had reached 34C! The Plaza Mayor in the old town was a further 10-15 minutes. Breakfast in the morning was very good and comprised the usual selection of fruits, cold meats, cheeses etc. We also discovered a couple of small pots of scrambled egg, which was a bit of a bonus. Service was very good and when we asked for tea it was made for us, which is a nice touch. In summary, this is a top class hotel that we would certainly use again.

Parador de Alarcon

An exceptional witness to the Reconquest, this 8th. castle, perfectly preserved, retains the aura of Arabic influence, with inimitable bedrooms which recreate the most romantic legends. It rises up on a promontory which presides over a fertile bend of the river Júcar. Military motifs from that period dominate the living rooms, impregnated with stone and Castilian wood.

Unique hotel setting, but there’s nothing to do in the town

Reviewed By jaimeelsabio

Not many hotels are in castles like this Parador. The rooms are basic and smaller than other Paradors’ rooms, but a good job was done fitting the rooms into the existing castle footprint. Because of the limited size, this Parador doesn’t have some amenities offered by others. Breakfast was accomplished in two shifts to minimize numbers of people in the restaurant. Also, breakfast wasn’t the typical buffet, rather you are brought a small assortment of cheese, ham, breads, fruit, and yogurt. Eggs can be requested. Parking is free at a parking lot in front of the hotel. There is a guy you tells you where to park in the public lot, but he is not employed by the Parador or the town. At least he wasn’t begging, per se, and I didn’t mind giving him a euro. The town itself has little to offer. With only 14 rooms, I have no idea how the hotel can afford to stay open.

Excellence provided

This hotel & it’s employees go above & beyond to ensure their clients feel safe & cared for during this unusual times. Right from checking in throughout our 4 day stay and up to checking out the staff treated us with courtesy & excellent manners. There was mats to clean your feet on arrival, hand sanitisers situated throughout the hotel & at every lift entrance. Buffet breakfast was still operational with the staff serving whatever you chose. The options were multiple & more than adequate. When asking for directions or indeed anything we were always met with smiles, despite our lack of the Spanish language we always were understood. The room was absolutely spotless with plenty toiletries. The tv remote which had been sanitised was in a separate cover ,the beds were extremely comfortable with extra pillows. We have no hesitation in recommending the EXE hotel. Free parking on site.

Very nice hotel, not modern

Reviewed By fun2fun

Nice hotel, with nice staff. Our room consisted of 2 rooms. Bedroom and living room. The bathroom was huge and included both a shawer . The room was furnished with wooden cabinets, and gave the feeling of a slightly antique house - I really liked it. The breakfast was very simple and modest, and the feeling was of a bit of chaos, especially since the meal was on a relatively small buffet for the number of diners.

Peaceful, relaxing, stunning views

Reviewed By jghastings

I stayed here for two nights in the sole Suite room they have, right up at the top. It is accessed from the third floor, with a staircase inside the bedroom to take you up to the floor above where everything is located (so it is not accessible for those with reduced mobility). The room was quite old fashioned but very large, and really nothing else matters once you take in the view from the private terrace. There’s a variety of chairs and loungers out there, so if you’re visiting in warmer weather than I was then it would be a fantastic place to sunbathe in absolute privacy (it’s literally the only terrace up there, with no-one overlooking it). The gorge is directly in front, with the old town continuing to snake further up the hill to the left, as well as down to the right towards the newer urban sprawl on the plain below. The Parador and its footbridge are all the way down below on the floor of the gorge. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the Raff San Pedro restaurant in the basement is one of the best in town. This is not a hotel for those who cannot manage hills, but then again Cuenca generally probably isn’t the place to go if you’re in that condition! Lovely, peaceful, relaxing stay. Very glad I followed the recommendation in the Rough Guide and chose this hotel.
