High standard & comfortable hotel

Reviewed By NandNreview

This was our second stay at Hotel Le Mauritia. How we wish we could always find the high standard set here throughout France! The whole hotel is very well maintained, airy and stylishly decorated. Once again our bedroom was spacious, thoughtfully laid out and with a wonderfully comfortable large bed with good quality linens. Excellent AC! The bathroom design is perfect, double sinks with plenty of space to set down your own items, spacious enough to act as a dressing room with the airy walk-in shower and separate toilet neatly hidden behind frosted glass doors. Breakfast is excellent with freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh pastries plus hot items available too. There is a spacious car park plus for a small fee there is a secure underground car park with lift access into the hotel, which is an additional bonus. A most welcome place to stay being a comfortable drive distance from the St.Malo ferry - we will certainly return!

A NICE LOCATION

Reviewed By Weightman01

The positive side of this hotel is that it is in great location from which you can do lovely walks along the coastline into the small town called Pornic. The hotel staff are very welcoming and helpful. The Thalasso aquatic area is good but does get busy at certain times. Although I didn't try them, there is a good gym and spa treatment area. Staff in the spa are welcoming and helpful. Our room was a Junior suite with sea view. Room 411. Nice and spacious with lots of cupboard space and a large bathroom which is unfortunately only half renovated. The downside of this hotel is that although the food in La Source restaurant is very good, you have the impression that you are eating in a canteen. Very noisy. Don’t count on a romantic evening! The Monday buffet of local produce is very good. However, if you opt for a meal from the a la Carte menu, beware, the prices are very high for a very small quantity. No value for money. The choice for breakfast is very good, but again, you can’t eat in tranquility due to the noise and clatter. Our junior suite was good, with a view of the sea from a distance. It was disappointing that the terrace had not been cleaned for months, with weeds growing in-between the wooden slats, not to mention all the very dirty cobwebs everywhere. The terrace has two lounger chairs with footrests (with small holes in them) and no side table. The design of the bedroom itself left a lot to be desired – very good bedding but the light switches are right behind the mattress, so the lights switch on with the slightest movement. The large flat screen television is too low to watch in bed. In addition, the bathroom, although spacious has a bath with a simple shower head and cable over it. The grouting is old and not at all renovated. Also, there is a large window separating the bedroom and bathroom with simple venetian blinds for “privacy”, but this does not stop light from flowing into the bedroom at night. The double curtains on all bay windows are far too small and hence light from outside comes into the bedroom at all hours. The real negative part of this room (and to my knowledge all rooms) is that there is no air conditioning. A feeble fan is provided that simply blows the hot air about. This hotel is not paying enough attention to detail but seems to be more interested in encouraging it’s elderly clients to spend on their very expensive spa treatments. Despite the above criticism, the hotel is good and I will return if the occasion arises.

Best sea view in Pornic.

Disappointing welcome!

Reviewed By Aubert v

We phoned the property the morning of our arrival to ask for availability, which they had. We were asked to make the reservation through their booking system, which we did on our telephone. We came from the Loire area and did arrive around 14.00 hours. At the gateway Catherine (owner) told us in a pretty rude way that we were not welcome before 17.00 hrs. This we should have known because it is mentioned in the PDF of the booking confirmation. You will find it in a document on page 4 of the 12 PDF pages. We didn’t see this as we were glad we could read the main confirmation on our phone. We asked if we could use the pool or drop some of our luggage, this was not possible. With some vague remarks about Covid - 19 and cleaning we were send off. We completely understand that Covid-19 is a serious matter but as a host you should first welcome your guests and than explain they cannot enter the property. Which is in my opinion already a strange situation. Furthermore, on departure day you have to leave the property at 10.30. It would have been convenient if arrival and departure times were mentioned properly at the reservation form. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and well maintained. We had a nice room at the first floor with a spacious terrace. The wc and bathroom are on the corridor for our own use. The guesthouse is very well organized, and that’s also an issue, you never had the feeling you were welcome and free to move. Every single thing has its own spot on the property and it feels that the maintenance of the property is more important than the guests. My partner and I worked for many years in the touristic industry and travelled a lot. We both wish that Catherine and Bastien can loosen up and relax a bit, cause the property is worth it.

The staff were lovely and also spoke English ..... nice views from the balcony and in the mornings I was watching otters run from a field into the water .... nice break during a pandemic!! There were good safety regs in place.
