The 10 best hotels in Newcastle, Australia

August 11, 2022 Emerita Lamoureux

Bordering Australia’s New South Wales' coast, just north of Sydney, sunny-natured Newcastle is anchored in indigenous and convict history. Surfing beaches, hand-cut sea pools, a coastal fort, and contemporary bars skirt the city’s harbor, while museums, artisanal restaurants, and microbreweries lie at its heart.

Location, service and view.

Excellent all round experience from the staff, location and the view from the room. The dining experience was also excellent in that the menu and the service from the staff was also exceptional. The view of the Newcastle Harbour from our room was outstanding. The only thing was that being a Rydges Member and in addition having to pay $29.00 parking fee on top of an expensive stay was irritating in view of the fact that I had not been charged this fee at this Hotel before.

Disappointing

We were excited to be staying in Newcastle in a 2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom apartment for a weekend away in the big smoke. Unfortunately we were placed in an apartment where outside every window was drainage dug up, piled up soil and cyclone fencing. Terrible - smell, dark, dank.

Great stay in a great location

Reviewed By Anna R

A very comfortable and quiet apartment with everything you could need. Bed was super comfy, with extra blankets if needed. Heating worked really well. There was even a snack bag waiting for me on arrival, which was just what I needed after a long day of flying. Location is great - just across from the foreshore, only a short walk to the beach, surrounded by cafes and restaurants and the most charming streets. I will absolutely stay again next time I'm in Newcastle.

Overnight convenience

Reviewed By Mero61

Good for an overnight stay albeit a bit pricey. Great check in and out experience. Fast, friendly and professional. Room modern and clean. Smallish size, would be cramped for more than a single night. They have let the architects and interior designers have a tad too much freedom. The glass around the bathroom and toilet is a miss. Lacks privacy. If partner uses toilet during night, whole bedroom lights up. Bed hard, aches and pains in morning. Breakfast basic, needs more fresh fruit options. Most hot food items had empty Bain-Marie’s so can’t comment on them. Surrounding area uninspiring with no entertainment or dining options. About a one kilometre walk to the Honeysuckle bar and restaurant precinct. No free parking nearby. In summary, good, basic transit hotel but pricey.
