The good and the bad

Reviewed By Debbie W

Initially, I was very pleased with our one night stay. We had a nice corner room with great views. It's an older facility but clean. The disappointment came when I realized the next day that I had left my charger for my Asus tablet. I called as soon as I discovered what I had done. Someone told me that they would check with housekeeping and call me back. I described where I was sure that it was on the floor next to the bed, what it looked like, and the room number. I never got a call. The next day I called and was told the same story. No call back. It's going to cost me $89 to replace it. I know that it has been found but someone knows its value or does not want to put in the effort to contact me. Good stay turned bad.

The housekeeping staff had a huge smile and warm greetings any time they saw a guest. The hotel may be older but the staff were awesome to be around. Top notch service and and caring staff made this a wonderful stay for me and my family. I think the staff makes this hotel worth visiting.

Our sons team stayed at this hotel for various tournament. What a mess! We checked in online, the day before our stay to ensure our group would all be on the same floor. We never got our digital key, so we had to go to the front desk to get our key. When we got to the room it had never been cleaned from the previous guests. One family in our group went to their room and there was people in it after they unlocked the door! There were holes in the wall, chipping paint, and lots if othervthings that needed updating.

Beautiful remodeling & pleasant stay

I have stayed on this property back when it was a Holiday Inn, multiple times actually. Since the refurbished Marriott, it is much nicer from all aspects, except noise. I believe all hotels should have the AC system set so you can run the fan constantly mostly to drown out the slamming doors, which are just actually closing regularly. The screaming couple with the crying baby next door, and the squeals of fun from the kids in the pool (we were very close to the pool), however, all things considered it was pleasant. Yes, they have scaled back services, 2 years of a Pandemic will do that to your business. Besides, you can walk to many great places to eat downtown right from the hotel. We were here for a wedding and the venue was close enough the hotel shuttle took people to the event so you didn't have to drive.

Was given room 215. Cigarette burn in the duvet. Giant piss stain on sheets. Black goop under pillows. Holes in walls. White sticky substance on the frame of the TV. The floors were so dirty I didn't want my bag to touch them. I pulled back the mattress cover and found a giant bloodstain. The bloodstain was so big that I'm sure someone was stabbed in this bed. Management was super sketchy, and I wanted to get away from them as quickly as I could. I think this might be a crack den or something, and it needs to be shut down.

I really wanted to like staying here but was so underwhlemed. The hotel / room is very worn, to put it kindly. And the rollaway bed was Horrendously superuncomfortable. Plus the breakfast was not up to par with the competition. The only plus was it had availability (when other local hotel didn't). The desk staff was meh. Needless to say I won't be frequenting this hotel or chain again!

Silver lining on a bad day

After a long drive from Niagara Falls to Muskegon, we were exhausted and dismayed to learn that the Lake Express Ferry had failed to let us know about a break-down that cancelled our over-night passage to Milwaukee. Since there were others stranded in Milwaukee with a similar situation, we were able to cancel our reservation there without penalty. I was skeptical of taking advice from the ferry staffers, but they get all the credit for steering us to this property. This an unusual motel for having mini-suites; our unit had nice-sized double beds in a front room and in a small back room, plus a full bath with a tub. My teenage son enjoyed having his own quiet room on our long road trip. Beyond that, what was truly amazing was that this hotel is so perfectly preserved across ~50 years of time. Simply take out the microwave, mini-fridge and flat-screen TV and you'd have a perfect movie set for a Gerald Ford bio-pic. A road passes right in front, but otherwise all was tranquil. (I'm die-hard about my earplugs.) The proprietor Joan is a gem. Price was fair, and we were walk-ins so I cannot comment on the booking issues others have mentioned. And, wi-fi on our stay was easy to access and lightening fast. I agree that this would be an amazing place to take-over for a reunion of some kind. Long live the 1970s!
