The 10 best hotels in La Coruna, Spain

August 7, 2022 Darwin Bolte

Geography sets La Coruna apart from other Galacian cities, with its historic center built on a headland and surrounded by beaches and a busy port. Above the city, the Romanesque Tower of Hercules stands in stark contrast to the modern vibe of this seaside Spanish metropolis.

A week of Quarantine hell

Reviewed By cumbriatourist

We were taken off the Queen Elizabeth and put into quarantine on the 4th floor of the Plaza hotel. This was totally unsuitable for a week's incarceration. We did not have a balcony and there was only a dressing table and one comfortable chair. There were no usb sockets and the plugs were continental (to be expected in Spain) but when we asked for adaptors (we had packed for a cruise and did not expect to have to use spanish sockets) the ones we were given were not compatible with our UK plugs. One of the main problems was the food and meal times. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the hotel and they would not provide hot drinks outside meal times. Thus we could only have 3 hot drinks a day. Breakfast was served from 8 am until 11.30 am, lunch from 1 pm to 3.30 pm and dinner from 8 pm to 11.30 pm. I know the Spanish eat later but there were more than 20 English guests removed from the ship into this hotel quarantine. We could not have more tea and coffee even if we were prepared to pay for it. Lunch and dinner were the exact same menu. We did not see any vegetables for the entire stay, the food was extremely greasy, undercooked and nearly always cold. I am sure they were overwhelmed but you could order dinner for 8 pm and were lucky if you got it before 9.15pm - very hit and miss. See attached pictures and menu. We did not receive anything to clean the room with although they did change towels and take full bin bags away. When we checked in although delivered to the hotel by ambulance with a driver in hasmat suit we were dropped on the street outside the hotel and could mingle with other guests at check in. The tv in the hotel only had spanish programmes. There was however free wifi. However you cannot download iplayer or itvplayer in Spain. There was a taxi rank and bus stop outside the hotel.

Eurostars Ciudad de la Coruna

The ocean is Galicia and Galicia is the ocean. For this reason a truly Galician night is one with the murmur of the waves breaking on the cliffs and waking with the dazzling reflection of the ocean light and the soft sound of the calm, morning waters. Without any doubt, because of its location and its quality, the Eurostars Ciudad de la Coruna (City of Corunna) is the ideal accommodation for treating oneself to pleasures that are so human, so Galician, so Atlantic. The Eurostars Ciudad de La Coruna is a true oasis in the city. Here, in this secret Corunna courtyard, we have exchanged the streets for a first class collection of sculptures; here, the noise of the city gives way to the sound of the waves: here, the sound of traffic is drowned and the wind peacefully takes its place; here, the hills rise to contemplate how the city falls in love with the ocean and, here, we take off from daily life to submerge ourselves in history contemplating, next to the Eurostars Ciudad de La Coruna, the most ancient lighthouse in the world, erected in Nero's times: the Tower of Hercules.

The view, the view...did I mention the view?

Listen to the crash of waves as you get ready in the morning, gaze at the coastline from bed. The view makes this hotel amazing. Their breakfast was good, the rooms nice and comfortable, the covid cleaning thorough and well-documented. But being a few steps away from the nature area and trails to walk along the coast and to the Torre de Hercules? So worth it.

Excellent Value Hotel

Just home from a 3 night stay at this small but lovely hotel. Located in Calle Estrella, it is right in the middle of the city centre and its many brilliant bars and restaurants and close to the beautiful marina and beach. The room is simple but immaculate and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and despite its central location, the noise from the crowds outside was minimal. Eating at the restaurant is a must. I come from a Spanish family and know my Spanish food and theirs was exceptional and very reasonably priced with the bonus of being able to quickly collapse in bed after all that food washed down with several glasses of Albariño! The staff were really attentive and very friendly. You wont be disappointed.

Average AC on the outskirts

Reviewed By frqtv

The only major international chain hotel in the city with a weird location somewhere on the outskirts. Need a car to get there and to the city. Don't even consider it without a car. Parking is very confusing to enter and costs extra, but luckily there is free street parking around the hotel. Check-in was faceless, no recognition of Marriott Elite status, just 'your passport please, and here is the key'. Old AC design but everything was still functional and clean. There was mini bar, but no kettle in the room. There is a nice churreria nearby for breakfast.

everything I needed

I needed a place to crash for two nights in-between travel destinations. This place hit the sweet spot. Super clean and room was good enough to spend the day in working. It's right on the water and by the beach, which is awesome. I would have totally walked to the Tower of Hercules had it not been raining. Also, they arranged a taxi for me at 4:45am. Love that.
