Circumstances Beyond Our Control

We had a reservation, but due to a violent snowstorm, the Ring Road was closed, and we couldn't get out of Reykjavik. I emailed the hotel and explained why we couldn't get there, but they still charged us for the rooms.

Was drugged during dinner, stay away from this place!!

Reviewed By sunnysA8705WZ

My boyfriend and I got a night there as a gift. In the two hours before dinner we had two bears each in our room that we had with us. At dinner we ordered a glass of red vine each. We took a few sips and we don’t remember anything after that, except flashes of few seconds of memory after that. We remember a glimps of us in our room, and I have an odd memory of someone coming into our room and remember saying “I thought we left the do not disturb sign on the door”. Next thing I know I am standing, naked! (except for my skirt) somewhere in a hallway. While all this was going on, my boyfriend gained conciusness in our bed, and I was nowhere to be seen. He went outside to the hallway and saw my pink underwear lying on the ground near our room. He panicked and started to look for me. He ran out the door in the hallway to check the hot tubs and then sees me in the window, holding my chest to cover me and looking confused. This is exactly the moment I was there. He screamed my name, I look up and have never in my life been so reliefed. Turns out I wasn’t far from our room, he ran inside and put his shirt on my. The worst part about this is, that when we went to speak to the guy at the desk he got super defensive, told us there was nothing he could do. We started asking him questions about the room keys, how many times our room was opened that night. He told us only the two of us did. How could he know that? My boyfriend had a view of his computer and the desk guy did not even check the computer. He didn’t want to check their cameras or help us in any way. The only thing he could do was let the police in Hella know (being locals we know for sure that’s not going to help us in any way). He complained about us not paying for dinner. We had no idea we left without paying, we would never do such thing but like I said before, a few sips of the red vine and everything went black. When we got back to the room I see my glass of red vine on the table. It wasn’t nearly empty. Thank god for that because now we can have it tested. It must have been a strong dose, because this happened so fast and we have a high tolerance for sedatives. Something that perv did not see coming because we have a feeling we woke up much sooner than we were supposed to. We suspect the staff or bartender spiking our drinks. So please, by all means stay away from this hotel from hell. Iceland is full of much nicer and not dangerous hotels.

Super cozy stay

Reviewed By ExpeditiongroupNL

We had a wonderful stay at Hesheimar. The cabins look very cozy and cute. We arrived in clean cabins. The showers were also nice and the kitchen had sufficient kitchenware. One of the beds in the houses is quite hard, but all of us had a good night sleep and woke up with a nice view over the fields with horses. We would like to thank the lovely staff for making us feel so welcome!

A superb immersive experience - DO IT

Reviewed By Jamie H

SO Charming! Hard to find and GPS wont help you. The best you can hope for is to call the house for directions or squint VERY VERY hard at the signs while passing by.. It is not "in" the town of Hella so if you're wandering around there, your in the wrong spot :) Otherwise, it was a WONDERFUL stay, cute, cute cabin and the people we met were super nice! Was kind of hoping to meet August to talk about some adventures but he was out of town during our stay.. I would definitely return if I were to repeat the trip :)

Decent but overpriced

Reviewed By 120piotrl

We've been there twice already for 1 night stay. Mostly because of location wich is close to Highlands and nice attractions you can see with regular 4x4 car. Sleep was good, burgers were fantastic. Rooms are tiny, like really tiny but the prices are similar to some exclusive hotels in the South, which means its just overpriced because there's nothing else around to stay. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wifi has small limit of devices connected so if its crowdy, theres small chance it will work for you when you need it. There is gas station at the place and that's a big plus.

Had some issues

Reviewed By nyegirl

When we arrived there was a note stating to check in at the restaurant. The restaurant was closed due to flooding or something. Luckily we ran in to some other travelers who had called the establishment. We were told the door to our room was open and to just go in. The room was fine, not great, but fine. However, the shower didn't drain so you had to turn the water off while showering or you would flood the floor. The piece holding the handheld shower head was broken so you had to hold it. The rain shower was not that great. The floor is slippery when coming out of the shower and there was no bath mat and no extra towel to put on the floor.
