The 10 best hotels in Gold Coast, Australia

August 11, 2022 Rosalyn Ihle

Sun-drenched and built for fun, Australia's Gold Coast hugs Queensland's southeast coastline with beaches, shimmering high rises, and epic surf breaks. Though it's hedonistic at heart, there's also plenty of opportunities for adventure and family-friendly attractions beyond its well-known party scene.

RACV Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast - Stands Out From The Rest When Celebrating

Reviewed By Ashley A

Royal Pines made our 30th wedding anniversary very memorable, we had a wonderful time! We especially appreciated being located in a private area for our family for the Panorama Mother's Day High Tea, along with the extra touches by the way of a plate of chocolates and a chocolate piped 'Happy Anniversary' message on the plate in our room on the day of our anniversary. These touches personalised our stay while making us feel special which is important when celebrating a special milestone in our lives. We have travelled many places and spent our 20th wedding anniversary in Hawaii, followed by our 25th wedding anniversary in Bora Bora,...and...naturally, both were international highlights of our anniversaries. With all honesty, we can say that this stay at Royal Pines has been our best anniversary stay ever within Australia. We have and will continue to recommend Royal Pines to one and all. Make sure to mention to Royal Pines on booking...that you are celebrating a birthday or an anniversary and they will do the rest!!

Rhapsody Resort

Drawing inspiration from the sea, Rhapsody’s designers have created a dynamic beachside apartment address. A sophisticated architectural statement reminiscent of grand vessels from a bygone era. A building of two distinct architectonic elements encased in a dramatic corten steel street level hull, destined to become the signature of the Surfers North precinct in Surfers Paradise, Australia.

A nice home away from home

Reviewed By Amymiaomiao

This is a nice and cozy resort for holiday stay, home away from home. There are a number of things that I love about Rhapsody: 1. Daily housekeeping service to keep the apartment nice and shine everyday and we came back with clean towels. 2. The king size bed in master room is so huge and comfortable. 3. Lovely sea view plus water view at the back 4. Parking is provided for which is essential as it is hard to find on Surfers Paradise 5. The front desk is friendly and always helpful 6. Kids’ room is also lovely and the kids enjoyed their own little space. I just love staying at Rhapsody resort each time we go to Gold Coast. It is a second home for us. Thank you!

This is our second stay at Mantra Twin Towns and we are looking forward to returning in the near future. The only downside was poor internet.

Top notch views

Reviewed By PH182

Our stay at the Q1 was breathtaking from the moment we could see it in the distance as we drove across the Qld/NSW border. Reception service was friendly and efficient. Our booking was 2 x 2 bedroom Ocean Spa apartments, which we were told would be allocated to use the same lift and our cards activated so that we could travel between floors. When we arrived, we had been assigned different lifts but the staff quickly offered to remedy this. We decided it wasn't a big deal as one family would have a higher floor and better view. In hindsight, the same lift would have been better as some of us experienced a bit of vertigo which we think was due to the frequent trips from floor 36 to the lobby and then straight back up to floor 49. The lifts were quick, we didn't have to wait long even at peak times. The indoor pool and Longboards were a great addition to our stay. All common areas were always clean. Our room, 3604 had doors quite close to the lifts. We were pleasantly surprised when there was zero lift noise during the entire stay. The room was huge and the highlight would have had to have been that killer view. 270 degrees with views of Stradbroke Island to the North and down to Coolangatta to the South. The sunsets had us up early, even though there were blockout blinds but we were glad to witness them. Big frosted glass sliding doors to each bedroom meant that the sunlight came in early and it was quite warm. Being able to open up the balcony doors and windows meant it was always comfortable with the breeze flowing through. Everything was clean and the apartment had everything we needed in the kitchen and laundry. A short walk into surfers paradise meant we always had something to do and the convenience store, BWS and takeaway shops downstairs were handy.

Chrome hubcaps on a rusted 97 Toyota Corolla

We stayed at a multi generational family with young kids and grandparents. Two seperate rooms; one on the Bay Wing ground floor that is in desperate need of an upgrade. To access the Bay Wing from the entrance you need to take two sets of ramps or stairs, I wouldn’t say this is a pram or accessible friendly resort. *Character Meets: there is a guide in the room that is “subject to change” however what we experienced was just lazy and unorganised. The kids queued for an hour to be first for the Ninja Turtles only for some weird Banana to show up 5 mins late. Needless to say my children were not the only ones disappointed. There needs to be better communication to the guests about the experience they’re getting. *Paper thin walls and floors. You can hear every noise and peep. *Ants within the bathroom *Pool area is in need of a major reno - pool and play area is great for the kids though (see below) *Shower over tub without adequate protection to keep the water from spraying all through the bathroom - tiles are questionably slip rated. * Door lock failed multiple times leaving us stranded at the door Pool: we enjoyed the splash pad area for the kids. Easy to have a play after the parks and have a short run back to the room. Overall area is shabby, to call yourself a resort I would expect a higher level of standard in the relaxation areas. Kitchenette: basic bowels and cutlery but I would have expected a toaster, dish brush and a proper knife in a kitchenette. Melrose: a nice family restaurant. Quick, easy and basic food. All that is needed after a day at the parks. Waterfront Cafe: good takeaway style food and a good spot to catch the sunset. A little expensive for what you get. Lobby Cafe: very weak coffee and milky. We have to go outside of the hotel and SeaWorld/MovieWorld to get a decent coffee. I recommend Sens Coffee in Southport or Jamaica Blue in HarbourTown Outlets. Shorelines: we chose not to eat there. We couldn’t justify the cost. We hear mixed reviews from other guests in the hotel. Staff: the team on the front desk are friendly and we’re apologetic towards incidents. For the resort style hotel they’re going for I would have expected a doorperson/greeter for cars. Instead the Concierge is tucked behind a desk. Parking: adequate but limited. Specific parking for larger vehicles would be a good improvement. The primary benefit is the location and proximity to SeaWorld; if you’re not getting a package deal then I would imagine that other resorts would be a better option. We stayed on an attractive inclusive package with park tickets so for value paid we overlooked some issues to give 2 stars review. I would rate SeaWorld resort a 3 star hotel. Not quite a resort, but not quite a motel.

Novotel Surfers Paradise is situated in the heart of Surfers Paradise surrounded by pristine beaches, iconic theme parks and an energetic nightlife. Conveniently located just a 150 metre walk to the beach, the hotel offers an extensive range of state of the art leisure facilities for guest’s enjoyment. Relax by the swimming pool and spa, or get active in the well-equipped fitness centre and full size tennis court.

Lacklustre at best

Reviewed By SydneyFlash

This was surprisingly poor for a Novotel. Check in is encased in plastic screens - more like a correctional facility - though staff were friendly. Lacklustre foyer bar with limited selection of drinks and staff who seem to have no idea what they are doing shuts at 8pm - which is a real problem when the surrounding area is dominated by rowdy nightclubs and dingy bars, so a retreat within the hotel after dark would have been welcome. Room was large but decor owes a lot to plastic. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom sparse. The breakfast wasn't worth getting out of bed for - very poor for this type of hotel. Overall this is a two and a half star experience and not something I would associate with the Novotel brand.
