The 10 best hotels in Almeria, Spain

August 7, 2022 Terina Blouin

Founded by the caliph of Cordoba, this Andalucian city on Spain’s southeast coast is a reminder of the region’s Muslim history. The Alcazaba, a massive fort, dominates the city and affords amazing views. Also worth experiencing are the cathedral and the Almeria Museum. East of the city is the rugged, desolate Cabo de Gata-Nijar coast, a protected area. To the west is the resort area of Roquetas de Mar, featuring vast beaches.

Stayed for one night in September. Absolutely amazed at what price we were given a enormous room with a great bathroom. Food at the bar was great and the service, too. Plenty off parking space and seemingly safe. Easy to arrive. No true services nearby so the hotel is pretty much all you got. The Pueblo is pretty much all resort.

This is a lovely hotel. We are on our third night of four. The staff are friendly and try very hard to help non Spanish speaking English. The rooms ,with large built in wardrobes with hangers, are spacious as is the ensuite and the terrace which has a table, two chairs and sun loungers. The whole place is kept very clean The food is excellent and the continental breakfast is the best I have ever had on holiday with freshly juiced oranges, cheese ham, croissants, frittata and toast. Lovely coffee served by staff.Plenty of choice for the very reasonably priced evening meal which is of high quality. It is very quiet but it is only a short walk from the beach and not too far afield there is a lot to see and do with the city of Almeria only a short drive away, Los escullos with the interesting limestone formations and the town where the streets are named after famous actors ,to name just a few.

Junior suite with (not) private terrace

Reviewed By Birgitte Theres... H

Some good , some bad. The good: Really good location with nice views from roof top. Roof top pool is small but heated in winter so that was nice. The not so good: Booked a junior suite with terrace, but turns out that the terrace is more or less part of the common roof top area. So not private at all. The bed was too soft (in our opinion) and the duvet really heavy. We did not sleep well. There is no service on the roof top terrace, only a vending machine with drinks - not really four stars style. Cleaning was poor, dirty glasses in room upon arrival. The tea/coffee items consisted of just one decaf bag and two camomile tea bags and were never filled up. The neighbouring building (our room wall connected to it) were doing heavy building work on our last two days making it impossible to stay in the room during the day. We stated this in reception and they just said sorry, not part of the hotel.

We had appointments in the city so spent the night at this hotel. Staff were friendly and efficient, room spacious and spotless, the bed comfortable and the evening meal good. As is often the case the hot items at breakfast were on the cold side. Very good for anyone who does not want to drive righ down town.

A big disappointment.

Reviewed By egopali50

Very disappointed. When I arrived I asked for just one thing, I wanted my room to have some natural light, not a view or anything, just a bit light. The receptionist said, they are booked and there is no room with natural light available (barely checking). I went to the room, I was travelling alone for work, andd I see an extremely small room, dark. I go to wash my hands, the bathroom smelled bad and there was no soap. I asked for some, and they told me they don't have any and I could use the sampoo. After a minute, they went in another room and brought me an almost open soap, that clearly wasn't the hotel's. I check the bed, and I saw a mattress that was in a really bad shape, so I go to the receptionist and I ask for change, even if I have to pay extra. She says she has nothing else available (barely trying). Now, I have a health condition, so next day I wake up and can't walk, as my left leg was stiff. I go and ask again for a change explaining I have a health issue (should I really?)... And then, at night, when I got back from my workday, I insisted for a change, I payed a big difference considering, and I go to an ok room. There was light, and soap! And I ask you, why should I ruin the three days I was travelling for work, go tired in my meeting and with a limp? I put two stars cause the second room was ok, but I had to suffer to get there. I was glad to leave, and I m very disappointed.

Very happy with our choice of accommodation for our three night stay in Almeria. It is just as it looks on the photos, full of character but with modern twists as it is relatively newly built. The road it is in and the local area including the waste ground at the end of the road where we parked out car, is not attractive but once through the door, it doesn't really matter. It is also just a couple of minutes walk to the centre so very convenient for tapas bars, cafes and shops. Our room was large and spacious with a huge bathroom including a whirlpool bath and modern powerful showers, all beautifully lit. The owner gave us a detailed map and recommendations of things to see and places to visit. He also personally escorted us to our room and showed us around the hotel. A bottle of water and a few choccies were provided each day, as well as a soap gift to take home. We were impressed that someone noticed that we had put a bottle of our own wine in the fridge and left a cork screw and 2 wine glasses out for us. There is also a small selection of liqueurs available for guests in the dining room. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as there are several places locally for a very reasonable quick breakfast. The Spanish Civil War underground shelters (museum) is well worth visiting, as is the Alcazabar and the Ramblas area. A drive out to Cabo de Gata Natural Park is also worth doing.
