Excellent value for money. The rooms are comfortable and public areas including bathrooms and shower rooms very clean. Great chill out areas. WiFi can be a bit hit and miss during peak hours but is usually available. The staff are all friendly. Easy walking distance to all major attractions. Mega shout out to the Red Parasol Cafe around the corner in Market - super chill, great coffee, great staff. Also Franklin Fountain for ice cream.

Not Another Hostel

Your home away from home in Pittsburgh. We are the most unique hospitality experience in Pittsburgh (and maybe the world?). Stay with us and find out why! Not Another Hostel operates on the pay it forward model. Your stay has been paid for by someone else. If you want to see the project continue, you can donate to help it do so. The suggested donation is 25 USD. If you can donate more, that is awesome, and will help that many more travelers stay here. If you can't donate that, or any less, it's a free, comfortable place to stay. Please note: our address is not public because we do not allow walk ins!

Great Get-Away

Reviewed By WasOnce

My wife and I spent a full day here courtesy of a NYC church sponsoring a Getty concert. We had delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining hall. Because the church has an Indian population, an Indian buffet was offered in addition to standard American fare. I sampled (and enjoyed) both. The concert was AWESOME. Our room was in a building about 5 minute walk from the main center. Three twin beds. Brought our own sheets and towels. Looked at this as a bit of an adventure. Pillows and blankets were provided (we still brought our own). Room was clean. Beds were nice and firm. A really wonderful, uplifting experience.

Hostelling International - Chamounix Mansion

A fun and fascinating alternative to expensive hotels, Chamounix Mansion is a Federal Period mansion with a Gothic Revival carriage house. 80 beds in dorm style rooms, set on a wooded hill above the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park. Popular with international hostellers, crew teams rowing on the Schuylkill and Cooper Rivers. Plenty of free parking, Adirondack chairs on the front porch. Veranda, bar-be-ques and picnic areas out back. Free guest computer and WIFI throughout for laptops. Free bicycles, tennis, videos, foosball.

Great for Large groups!

First, let me say that I’ve never been a big fan of Hostels, with that being said, this is a pretty good hostel, especially for large groups. I will say that driving up to the Chamounix Mansion could have been a scene from a B-horror movie, a big old house in the middle of the woods. Our experience was nothing like that though. Claire and Andie are the house managers and both were nice and accommodating. They supplied sheets, linens, blanket and a pillow. You need to bring your bathroom supplies (towel, deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrush etc). Our Scout troop stayed here and we had both buildings, the Mansion and the cottage which is across a lawn/courtyard area. Their main kitchen/dining area is in the basement of the mansion which fit 70 scouts with a little room to spare. Since it was the first week in April and it was warm, 70 degrees, the AC was not on yet but they have several pedestal room fans which made it adequate. Each room had several bunk beds, lights, outlets etc. The mansion and the cottage each had a common room with a TV in it. They have free wifi but you get a strong signal on your cell phone without it. Overall we had a good experience and I definitely recommend it for large groups.

First hostel experience, enjoyed it.

I really don't have any other hostels to compare this to. It was inexpensive, the hosts were very nice, and I met some interesting people - including another touring bicyclist. there was no hot water in the men's room shower, and the beds aren't the greatest - but I slept soundly nevertheless. There's a kitchen, but I'd recommend bringing your own food. The common area is very cozy, with couches and a fireplace. The rooms have dormitory-style bunk beds.

City House Hostel Philadelphia

At City House Hostel Philadelphia, we believe that just because you aren't at home, doesn't mean that you can't have a home. Whether you stay for business or pleasure, our location is a convenient, friendly place from which to experience Philly's culture and history. Down backstreets that were walked by the Founding Fathers, on cobbled corners, history waits to be discovered. City House Hostel Philadelphia is in a beautiful 19th century building, a short walk from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. With 6 shared or private rooms set over four floors, the hostel includes an open style kitchen, chill area, and nightly guided events you'll know why Philadelphia is called the city of Brotherly Love.

Central Location at a great cost with Genuine Staff

I could not have had a better experience in Philly. Flew in from LA at 5 AM on Saturday morning, and arrived at the hostel an hour later. When I came in, the girl gave me a good route of the city, being able to go to everything within 20 minutes of walking distance (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc...) I dropped off my bags and headed to South Street Diner, which was a classic breakfast with affordable prices. Came back at 3 pm and checked in with Jonah, quirky and funny guy who was one of two people who made my trip memorable. Took a quick nap, ate dinner at Campo's (their cheesesteak was alright) and got ready for the night activities. Chelsea, our host of the night, started us off with some free beers and a few rounds of Jenga and Uno in the living room. She was super friendly, got everyone engaged with one another. Jonah who was off work, went above and beyond the call of duty and helped out with Chelsea and the group. I got to hang out with people from all around the world, ranging from Texas to Brazil, as well as Italy. After an hour or so, it was time for the Bar Crawl, and we landed at our first stop at Sto's. Do yourself a favor and listen to your guides! We got a "Citywide" which was $5 for a shot and beer of your kind! The bar had shuffleboard and some throwback music, the kind that makes you want to raise your beer in the air and sing along. Afterwards, we went to South Street and while I don't remember the other bars that we went to, we made our way to Tattooed Mom, a hipster/emo like bar that's really rad and unique. I probably had more laughs and good times in one night than I ever had in a solo trip, and I can wholeheartedly say that it's because of the staff. Chelsea and Jonah, you guys rock!

Great hostel, awesome stuff!

It's a more quiet hostel, so perfect if you actually wanna sleep. The common room is big and offers games, TV, couch, kitchen. Bathrooms are very neat. The only thing which bothered me was the AC in the dorm. It was freezing and you couldn't turn it down. Also you need to bring you're own lock for the lockers which I didn't know. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. Thumps up!

Be careful of the cancellation policy. They have two different cancellation policies. One for 30 days out and one for within 30 days. Credit card company called to cxl 7 weeks and the owner was extremely rude and even hung up on them. Trying to cxl a room for whiteout weekend that is 100% booked. I called and the owner was a total scum bag.
