The location is very good - ten minutes walk from the train station. A bonus is its proximity to Higashi Honganji temple and its detached garden Shosei-en. The hostel itself is very well set up and very well run. The facilities are excellent - the kitchen is as good as any I have come across in a hostel in Japan. The bunk beds are comfortable. The lack of privacy curtains was not a problem in my stay, but with less considerate room mates it could be. The showers are very good: plenty of pressure and good temperature control. The common/dining room is spacious and comfortable but I found the piped 'cafe music' from morning to night there irritating. The desk staff were all helpful and competent, and spoke good English. The cleaning staff worked hard to keep the hostel clean, and it was reassuring to see them going around disinfecting surfaces in view of the current coronavirus epidemic. No fault of the Kyoto hostel, but booking on the K's house website is unnecessarily complicated. I found it preferable to pay more for the ease of booking.com than wrestle with K's House booking process to take advantage of their 'secret deals' (loyalty discounts).

Still the best youth hostel I've ever been

Reviewed By jojopeng

Been here once in 2015 during my solo trip. After staying here , I feel that I must bring my family here someday. And I did! My family of 5, 2 A and 3C aged 13,10&9 stayed in the Japanese style room from 09-11 June. It's off peak timing so not many ppl are staying here. We get to enjoy the peace and quiet. What's good abt this hostel ? Cleanliness is at its best. The shared bathroom, toilets areas are in top notch cleanliness. You can't find in other youth hostel. The communal onsen area is well maintained and clean. Everyone who use the area has the responsibility to keep it clean and tidy. And am glad that everyone is doing it well. Everyday between 10am to 3pm, u cannot stay in your room as the staff has to clean your room. Common area: kitchen and living area is shared and very cosy place for us to hang around. U can rent games like Uno, jenga from the front desk for free to play with your family. There is also an outdoor balcony area where u can just sit there and enjoy the breeze. The whole compound is at a residential area. So it's serene , peaceful and quiet. A very zen place. I was originally afraid that my kids who are city kids would be bored here... But they actually loved it. Especially making their own cup noodles dinner at the kitchen. There is no TV at the room we stayed , so we went to the kitchen area to watch TV and snack. Like all other YHA, u will be given bedsheets and pillowcase to make your bed and have to return them back to the front desk upon check out. The nearest JR station is abt 5-7mins drive away. It's so nice to come back again.

PERFECT position, very friendly overall athmosphere , staff very helpful and English speaking and the Onsen is a sure benefit!! Although there are many people coming and going, common toilets and restrooms were never crowded and always clean! I wouldn't like to do too good recommendations because I would like to keep this nice hotel a little secret... ;)

This was a great experience for a first time traveller to Japan. The ladies at the front office were very helpful. They helped me to connect to my family back in India as Well. I used a dorm room, but I was the only inmate there. It was a pleasure to stay there. Would love to stay there again. I recommend this place if you ever visit Osaka , Japan.

Great for the price

Reviewed By HewieLove

Comfortable, traditional sleeping arrangements. The guest house offers friendly staff, and a great atmosphere. The walls are thin, so be kind to your neighbors and be aware of the noise you make. The bathrooms are in the basement, which is a drawback for those late night bathroom breaks. Overall, I would stay here again. It is in the perfect locations, and I really have no big complaints. Breakfast can be had for a reasonable price at the original GOJO Guest House (about a 10 minute walk away).

Stunning

This place took me out of my shoes. Literally. One of the most beautiful, most comfortable and most pleasant hotels I have ever stayed in. Traditional Japan interwoven with a modern in the middle of the geisha district. And the smell of wood... Absolutely recommend.
