Cathedral of St. Martin's and St. Nicholas

Reviewed By paullegate - St Ives, United Kingdom

On the riverside of Brda River is St. Martin and St. Nicholas Cathedral. It is a Catholic church which was built in the 15th Century and has a Gothic style and serves as a parish church and cathedral of the Diocese of Bydgoszcz. It was given cathedral status by Pope John Paul II in March 2004. Inside the cathedral it is very ornate and quite captivating. The cathedral is incredibly charming and is worth seeking out whilst in Bydgoszcz.

Poznan Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul

Reviewed By israroz - Ra'anana, Israel

The St. Peter and Paul cathedral is built as a huge red bricks structure with 5 towers, 3 of them are " wounderfull copper ”Onion” towers with a "green" patina. Most impressive up close and from far away. Wonderful interior design with spectacular gilded designs, huge stained-glass windows and plenty of sculptures and decorations. Due to a tight schedule, we were unable to visit the basement floor, which contains ancient remains and tombs of several Polish kings and is highly recommended by all tour guides. Hope to visit again next time.

Kolegiata p.w. Sw Marcina

Reviewed By marcin717 - Gdynia, Poland

A magnificent temple with the tombstones of the Szydlowieccy family of the Odworąż coat of arms, among which is the main builder of Opatów's successes. A must-visit place during a stay in Świętokrzyskie - a pearl of Romanesque art in Poland. The Warsaw gate with a slightly changed tower than the original one and the underground route - a great thing.

Franciscan Church

Reviewed By israroz - Ra'anana, Israel

Not far from the Old Town Square we happened to encounter the simple and modest building of the Franciscan Church. The exterior and the simple design did not prepare us for the "amazing" sights that awaited us inside the church's interior - one of the most amazing churches I have ever seen !!! The stunning ceiling paintings are breathtaking. The whole church is filled with wonderful amazing Baroque Style artworks. MOST AMAZING. Unfortunately we arrived at the church in the middle of the prayer and out of respect for the holy place and the worshipers, I had to reduce the photography so that I did not take much of the amazing works, pictures and sculptures that filled the church. I am sure that I will return to Poznan in the future with the MAIN aim of completing the photos I missed on this trip.

Bydgoszcz Basilica

The Basilica is not very far from Bydgoszcz Bus Station. I had visited the Basilica once before in winter, and had not appreciated its merits, as then it was a grey day. When I visited the Basilica in May 2012, it was on a bright sunny day. The architecture is in the Classic style, and the building is large. I liked the way the colours of the walls stood out subtly under the bright sunlight. I was also struck by the memorial to the Smolensk air crash. The next time I stay in Bydgoszcz I will make a point of visting the Basilica again, because I have not been in many buildings similar to its vast, spacious interior and the Classical style of architecture suits my tastes..
