Camping Les Fougeres

Lovely location, cramped accommodation.

Reviewed By Fairporter53500

The positives first. The site is really attractive, well maintained and clean. The facilities are good, a large play area for children, a swimming pool, superb walking from the site. A good base to explore the island. The mobile homes are clean and in good overall condition, if rather cramped. You definitely need one with a terrace! The accommodation lacks any comfort- seating is poor, lighting is bright and clinical, the WC is very small and so are are the bedrooms. Softer lighting, especially bed side lights would be a great improvement but overall I did not think the internal design was very good. I used to have a touring caravan which was more spacious and more comfortable.

fraudulent insurance payments demanded even though we said we were separately insured

Reviewed By Bridgeybarnes

I made a booking for 16 people for our annual easter cycling weekend and we chose this site in Il de Re. I challenged the addition for insurance for the site despite saying all of the people coming have separate insurance policies. They said if we didn't pay for the insurance they will just cancel our booking. For the sake of c.5 quid I thought it wasn't much in the grand scheme of things so we begrudgingly paid the money. COVID came and our booking was cancelled. This was ok however the camp site were not forthcoming with providing the necessary documentation to process our claim with the 'insurance company'. I decided to pursue the refund through my credit card provider (CCP) who were happy to process the claim. My CCP contacted me to let me know that Les Grenettes were contesting the refund stating that we have rescheduled for end of July / beginning of August. This was not offered before nor confirmed by us. Note the dates as this is peak season for the camp site. We were going to go in Easter when it was cheaper. No price was agreed with the campsite either. The last communication we had was that we can claim our money back from the 'insurance company'. I can see from the latest reviews here that these people are shiesters at best. These people are greedy and are still giving me a headache until now. Stay somewhere else in the island. It is beautiful and I can't wait to go back. Unfortunately there are people like Les Grenettes who take advantage of this.

Great little site

Reviewed By Paul S

We were camping with a ten. Pros: Very, very clean facilities. Spacious pitches. Plenty of shade. Lovely pool. Plentiful supply of very hot water. Supermarket 800 mtrs away. Well stocked bike hire facility. Excellent, if rather overpriced, pizzas. Lovely 20 minute stroll through vineyards to Ars-en-Re and its lively daily market or through a forest to the beach (at low tide it is rock pool heaven!) Cons: Traffic noise from road, more noticeable at night. No hand washing facilities in toilet blocks (but strangely there are potable water stands directly outside the blocks that people were seen using to wash hands after using the toilets, which is not particularly hygienic). No bins in toilet cubicles for feminine hygiene use.

Exceptional service

We booked our pitch a few hours before we needed it via pitch up. We arrived as reception reopened at 2 and were warmly welcomed by Enora (sorry if wrong spelling!). We walked the site and chose our pitch Good size pitch with hedging to separate. . We were able to access it immediately. There were plenty of clean showers and toilets. 3asy access to grey and black dumping etc. Sadly our vehicle wouldn't start. Enora was do helpful, translating for us, helping us contact our insurance company and translating when the recovery truck arrived - she really did go above and beyond. We are truly grateful. Thank you for a great stay albeit too brief. We'll be back x

Not for Touring Caravans

Reviewed By U7607ZBcarolinew

This site is not suitable for any medium to large touring caravans. We have a twin axle tourer, and could only get to a few of the pitches, as most were completely inaccessible. On the website these pitches are advertised as between 80m2 to 100m2 and look lovely in the pictures the reality is Very Very Different. Our pitch was maximum 50m2, we were treated to dog faeces all over the pitch and a pitch not really large enough to even have the awning up, we had it up, but couldn't peg the front because this was on the road. Behind us was a chain fence overlooking a factory which started work around 7:00am. I'm sure if you are staying in one of their properties it may be a different experience but for tourers, Do Not Go Here !. So disappointing to have wasted our summer holiday at this site.

15 mins walk to centre of St Martin de Ré. Quiet campsite. Toilets were not very clean. Wifi was expensive. Didn't use the bar or BBQ facilities but they looked ok. Busy when we visited on wked of 15th August. Pitches were on the small side but still enough room for a large 6-berth campervan.

Great value for money/doggy friendly

Reviewed By Tracy e

Stayed 4 nights. Just a short 5 minutes walk to doggy friendly beach (except July and August). Friendly staff. Bar, table tennis and other games etc. Kids playground. Pitches are a good size- we have a challenger camper. Electric included in the price and camper service area with free water etc . Overall really great. Area kept quite natural and environmentally friendly with plenty of recycling available. Would definitely stay again.
