The 10 best Campgrounds in Finnmark, Norway

April 29, 2023 Florencio Paulino

Lying at the very top of Europe, Finnmark is the northernmost part of Norway that reaches around Sweden and meets Finland. This is the heart of Norwegian Lapland, where Karasjok is the cultural and political seat of Sami life. Though Norway's biggest county by size, Finnmark has the fewest people. Alta, the biggest city with just 17,000, is called the Town of Northern Lights for its great views of the phenomenon. Alta Museum is largely devoted to local rock carvings from thousands of years ago.

Fantastic Stay

After travelling many miles, in our motor home, to get to the Nordkapp we found this lovely site on our way back. The host was amazing and so helpful. The facilities were fantastic. I had lots of washing to do and managed to get it all done. Great place to stay after the most memorable day ever.

Holmen Husky Lodge

Holmen Husky is a small, family-run business who has been working with dogs since the 80s. Some of us have even grown up in the dogyard and on the sled. It is much more than an activity or an experience that has got us all addicted. it’s a feeling that must be experienced. Now we wish to let our guests get a taste of what we fell in love with, both on and off the sled. We welcome you to our home at Holmen and our way of living. This is a place for both relaxation and adventure. Whether you dream of watching the Northern Lights from the comfort of a warm bed or exploring nature with a team of huskies. A world of unreal contrasts. Next to nothing, close to everything. This is Arctic living.

From the previous reviews my expectations were quite high, but Holmen Husky Lodge still massively exceeded them. We were on the four day trip and were introduced to the husky sledding life nice and gently on the first day with a short tour around the local area and a delicious dinner. The next two days we spent up in the mountains with our own husky teams. It was very special because we really got to know the dogs. Apart from the basics (thermal underlayers and sweaters) all gear was provided and super high quality so I never worried once about being too cold. Staff were also very attentive and making sure we were comfortable. Food was all included and every meal we had was exceptional. Cannot recommend this place enough to anyone who loves dogs, or just wants to try husky sledding.

Herlig og eventyrlig natt i dome

Reviewed By Maria F

Takk for oss! :D

Lovely place and friendly people

Really enjoyed the place. Stayed both in a room with shared facilities and in a ’rorbu’ fishermans cabin. There is a brand new separate building for shared facilities that has cooking area with amazing views to harbour and many modern shower rooms and even a sauna. Everything is squeaky clean. The rorbu cabin was lovely and spacious. It could accomodate up to 6 pax. The staff is super friendly and helpfull! There is a lot to do around the area! Hiking, fishing and sightseeing etc.

Bra boende, lite off

Bra boende, lite off i Austertana.

Stabbursdalen Resort

The rivers in the county of Porsanger are rich in Salmon and Sea trout. All rivers are extremely beautiful and still inexpensive compared to other rivers in Norway. Salmon anglers across the world have heard about Northern Norway's marvellous salmon rivers. Stabburselva is known for its beautiful surroundings and excellent salmon fly-fishing. Lakselva is known for big sized Salmon, and Borselva is well known for its crystal clear water and beautiful surroundings. If you want good value for money and several really good rivers where you can find places in solitude, Stabbursdalen Resort is the place for you. Stabbursdalen Resort is close to Stabbursdalen National Park and Stabbursnes Nature Reserve. The area is the northernmost border for many species of plants, birds and insects. The park has excellent trails for hikers that want to experience striking arctic wildlife in the northernmost pine forest in the world. Stabbursdalen Resort has 30 cabins of all classifications. All cabins have kitchen with hot and cold water. Most cabins have showers and toilet. You can get a small, basic cabin for two people, a medium sized cabin of good standard, or a large luxury log house. We also have pitches for caravan and tents.

Very nice place!

Worth a stop! The nature around is beautiful!! Only thing, in winter they don't rent skis nor snowshoes. They might (them or the Stabbursnes Nature House 200m up the street) within short time but check before going. And in the campsite itself, every standard is possible, from really good luxury to very simple cabins. I would definitely return if I was in the area again.
