The Old Nunnery B&B Moss Vale

This totally renovated property was built in 1900 on almost one acre of landscaped grounds, used for part of its life as a Catholic Dominican Nunnery. There are 4 luxury rooms each with king sized bed and en suite, ideal for a wedding party or an adult escape. Come and meet the chickens that laid the eggs for breakfast which is either a quality continental and/or full English breakfast. There is a separate guest lounge with fireplace to relax in and all rooms are centrally heated for your comfort. Ideally located, it is a very short walk into the village, with all facilities such as hotels, restaurants, antique shops, supermarkets and the new $16m aquatic centre. There is a quality golf course across the road and it is a short walk to the clubhouse and 1st tee.

A hidden gem

Wow. Suzanne is justifiably proud of this beautiful boutique hotel. The facilites are excellent. Big bedrooms and some great common area in front of the fire (or outside in amnazing grounds if it had been warmer). With just 4 bedrooms it is idea for a group of friends (though equally perfect for just one couple - as we were) The breakfast completes a great stay.

Fitzroy Inn

The Fitzroy Inn is one of the finest country inns in the scenic Southern Highlands of New South Wales, and a fantastic venue for weddings, functions, conferences - best in Southern Highlands. Only one hour from the centre of Sydney by car and 2 hours by train. Set on the edge of a rural town, this charming Victorian colonial building with its wrap-around verandah opened as the Fitzroy Inn in 1836, and was the first lodge or guest house in the State to provide rooms as well as liquor. Today, the Fitzroy Inn continues that hospitable tradition and recently reopened as a country inn with a fine restaurant, set amidst five acres of tranquil, terraced gardens with a stream flowing through it. Choose from one of eleven delightful bedrooms in the historic Inn, including four cosy attic accommodation rooms overlooking the gardens, or one of four spacious bedrooms in the restored School Master’s Cottage, two of which are upstairs. All rooms have queen-size or king size beds.

Comfortable stay in a historic inn

Reviewed By Bill1954

Historic inns are usually interesting but often uncomfortable so we were delighted with our experience at the Fitzroy Inn, which dates back to 1836. The ground floor is mostly public rooms, each with history that is nicely presented. Our upstairs room was large, spotless and comfortable. A warm welcome from the hosts and their two dachshunds completed the great experience. One word of caution: the steep stairs up to our room might be difficult for people with mobility issues or with large/heavy luggage.

Charming in its way but overpriced

I am a planning fool, that way you guard against disappointment and sleeping in the car overnight. My husband however is non planner, with a how bad can it be, how crowded will it get mid week, perspective. Thanks to this take on the world we ended up at Dormie Lodge because it was getting dark and there was an old sign which pointed us there. This place is interesting, with a degree of charm and a need for a major overhaul. My guess is it’s late 20s/ v early 30s.It is rundown but functioning. and in places, quite nice. Go to Peppers if you want a sexy, luxury weekend, not here. This is as one reviewer writes, for golfing enthusiasts. We had a large room with 2 beds, one queen, one single, not good quality. The bathroom was a nasty little 1970s shoe in which was in need of bleach. Note it was stained not dirty. The hotel was v clean. There was the smallest, tiniest TV which I have seen since the 1970s. The room overlooked the car park which in the morning had all the noise of golf carts and a fine view of workmen spitting into the bushes. The room was glacial and this was in February, however the night manager brought us 2 little fan heaters as heating was off and that was fine. This all set us back $A175 which astounded me. So, that’s the bad stuff. The good stuff was the lounge. Nicely done with faux period leather chairs. But what I liked best was the 1970s extension where the the dining room and bar were housed. One side was packed out with golfers, the other virtually empty. We went there and drank $8 wine and watched the sun set over the gardens and golf links. What I also liked was the inside staff. Everyone of them was exceptionally nice and unfailingly helpful. We didn’t eat there. Food was about $40 a main course. It did look v nice. Be aware that upstairs has no lift and the stairs are quite steep. Renovations are ongoing but regrettably they are not restorations of beautiful period features. The instead involve lots of white paint and plastic bathroom suites.

Positive was that you could check in quite late. Directions to get into the building were tricky. We took two rooms. My room had a strong smell of cigarette smoke and was right next to the air conditioning compressor and bottle shop. Staff couldn't do anything. The other room was good. Shared bathrooms should have had a his/hers. Aircon and TV worked well Rooms were physically clean and beds were comfortable. Would have been good to give us spare blankets so we didn't need to have the aircon on at night.

Bowral Hotel

Modern & clean with everything you need, we would absolutely stay again.

Reviewed By Denise S

We arrived late afternoon in Bowral and secured the last room available. Ben and the staff were great, and the room was modern, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was large and bright with a double shower, there was a Nespresso machine and pods, NetFlix and Stan, and the bed was perfect. Located in the centre of town we were able to walk to everything and could leave the car parked. We were astounded by the beauty of the town and thrilled that it has retained its original vibe. Dinner at the hotel was really good and well-priced, and if you’re looking for coffee try “Early Birds” on the Main Street at the other end of town - it’s brilliant!
