Hmmm… pick somewhere else if you can

The good: Great location. Very central for Thredbo Village shops and the chairlift. Good food in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. The not so good Service - very average. Reception desk barely attended. Restaurant shut Sunday evening and all day Monday when they claim that they are always open. No one to help with luggage and there are a lot of stairs. So pack light or do some weight training! Staff service was variable. A couple of friendly and helpful staff. Most were diffident and uncaring. A couple were rude. No one to ask for advice about the area. We had a room with no view. The room was very basic and functional and in need of updating with its 1970’s decor. Poor WiFi and basic TV. Would not choose to stay there again.

The Lions Lair

Awesome Snow Trip

Reviewed By Kathryn W

We loved our recent stay at the The Lions Lair. A cosy, clean, family friendly lodge, a real ‘home away from home’. The hosts Monique and Rod were fantastic and cooked a different delicious hot breakfast each morning from fried to scrambled eggs and bacon, to yummy pancakes with berries and cream. Large selections of other serve yourself breakfast items too. We also made good use of the communal fridge and kitchenette (microwave only). The rooms were spotless, with comfortable, firm beds and lovely bedding. Lovely views from the communal lounge as you relax after a big day on the slopes on the comfy lounges. Lots of games for the kids to play and your guaranteed to meet some other lovely families during your stay. Very short walk to Smiggins Holes centre and free Perisher shuttle bus. Great value for money to stay on the mountain itself. We loved it and will definitely be back. Thank you Monique and Rod for a fantastic stay!

Comfortable motel with friendly staff

Reviewed By Evelyn J

A lovely comfortable little motel in a quiet location, just a short walk to the shops and hotels for a meal. There is a bowling club directly across the road too which serves Chinese food. The motel had everything we needed for an overnight stay. It was our second stay here and we would return here when next in Tumbarumba.

Very friendly hosts, knowledgeable of many useful things and local areas. Peaceful and quiet, very relaxing spot, just wish I had been able to stay longer. The icing on the cake for me was it was pet friendly and unlike other places didn't charge up because I was traveling with my pet. Highly recommended.

Ellstanmor Country Guesthouse

The home was built in 1875 for the Body family on 5 acres with numerous outbuildings and cottages throughout the grounds and there was a staff of many. Today Ellstanmor is on a smaller block and is the home of Georg and Allison and family. It has a parlor, huge covered verandah, a library, lovely formal entrance, gorgeous French doors everywhere, ornate staircase, off street parking, central heating and some nice garden spaces. Being in Cooma’s CBD, the house is within a few minutes walk of all facilities Cooma has to offer. There is the Cooma Twin Cinema screening the latest films. The centre of town is well known for cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs. We are adjacent to the heated swimming centre and the cycle path and walking trail commences at the bottom of the street. Free Wifi is available for guests who want to connect to the internet. The accommodation at the guest house is very smart, but casual. There are four nice queen rooms all with their own en-suite bathrooms. Our parlor with French doors to the front of the house has a comfortable leather club suite. The dining room is the hub of the home, casual but very Victorian, with a large bay window and ornate fixtures. You may choose to find a corner and watch a movie or TV, or maybe read that overdue book. Guests are encouraged to relax and take it easy; there are enough spaces to kick back. Breakfast is a casual affair with great espresso coffee, a selection of teas, breads, fruits cereals and juices. Or choose a country cooked breakfast cooked to order.

It does the job!

Reviewed By Casss87

Staff were welcoming and friendly. It’s your standard country club, with pokies and a pool table. The restaurant seating area was cold and lacked atmosphere, but the bar area was beautifully warm, so we ate in there. The food was ok and reasonably priced. Its really the only place in Talbingo to get a feed for dinner, our understanding was other places have closed due to covid, so we appreciated that this option is there, otherwise it’s a 25min drive to tumut which isn’t ideal when you have 3 tired children. We love to support these small country towns who are struggling during covid and if the staff are friendly and show they appreciate your business we will always return and that’s exactly what this place did!

Andrea's White House

Are you looking for great accommodation experience...close to all the year round action of the Snowy Mountains but quiet and relaxing on 5 acres of snow gums. Allows you to relax and reconnect with family and friends after a great day out. We have two self contained options ... The Residence - sleeps 10 with four bedrooms and en suites and a TV room with 2 single beds. Enjoy the lounge and dining area with double sided Cheminee Philippe wood fire. Cook up a storm in the kitchen that will bring out the Master Chef in everyone! The kitchen has all the gadgets and crockery you could ask for. The Retreat - sleeps 2. This is the wonderful cosy getaway when it is just the two of you and is perfect for couples. With your own lounge dining with a full kitchen and wood fire you can relax and enjoy. There is a separate queen bedroom and full bathroom. This is a good size option for couples and much larger than a studio. There is an option to take both the Residence and the Retreat combined.

Family Get Together

Reviewed By 578ejjones

We recently stayed at this property, with 6 adults and 2 small children. I was pleasantly surprised with the warmth of the house, the under floor heating and fire place obviously does the trick. I personally was not a fan of the beds, they were harder than I normally like, but others in the family felt theirs was OK. The house is well equipped and especially catered for the children with games, a TV room separate to the main lounge area and had plenty of board games suitable for us all. We followed instructions for the washing machine/dryer but still managed to lose power (as there are instructions on what not to do with the washing machine/dryer) but this was attended to very quickly by the manager. We found the dishwasher did not clean all that well and chose to wash up manually but this was no problem to us, we did leave a note to advise the manager of this. Also the oven had smoke coming from it when turned on, so I never used it, I just used the weber, crockpot and the top of the stove, which was more than adequate for us all. This house has everything you could possibly want to cook with, even the oils, cling wrap etc however I took all of this myself but it is there for people to use if needed. It's location is amazing, it is literally 10 minutes from Jindabyne and 10 minutes from Thredbo with some great little places to eat around the area. We went to Perisher as well, which was only about 30 minutes away. There is a good shopping complex as you drive into Jindabyne so you can pick up supplies easily before heading to the house. We were advised to go to the Wild Brumby Distillery, which has amazing schnapps but they forgot us for over 1.5 hours and never cooked our meals, so it left a sour taste for us, but it was nice once we received our food. I would recommend this house to stay in the snow but just be aware there is a retreat which is rented out to other people, it is part of the main residence with separate entry and this is OK but we were aware of them talking/playing music etc, plus I am sure they heard our baby granddaughter crying at times, so it is not completely separate. If I had known I would have tried to hire the whole house. I thought the retreat was totally separate from the main residence but it is part of it with a separate entrance and interlocking door which is locked. It was quite easy to hear the people next door, just as I am sure they heard us. But otherwise this place is perfect for the snow and is great for families and friends. The fact it has four separate bathrooms was very much a factor of why we booked it. The owner cannot be more helpful and has tried to think of everything people need. I would stay here again if I visited the snowy mountains.

A great stay for 1 night & Fab as the host was lovely. Booked in at the last minute and took the last room which was great, super comfortable & everything up to date, which often isn’t the case in the snow. Breakfast was also excellent. I will stay here again…+ car parking is super easy direct from the Alpine Way. Topped it off this morning walking to Mt K on an absolute superb morning!
