Upgrading from table d’hote to real restaurant gastronomique

Great new restaurant at the Chateau d’Origny! Food always was great as table d’hôte but now they stepped up immensely and you find yourself in a fine dining restaurant. Great tasty food with herbs from own garden, unexpected taste combinations - and everything served beautifully. Definitely worth a visit! Had the tasting menu and every single dish was pure indulgence - for the eye and for the taste buds. Cheers

Quality hotel, not cheap but you get what you pay for. Ideal for couples, lovely swimming pool with enough transats for everyone. Breakfast delivered to room due to Covid but excellent quality. Staff friendly and helpful, everything in room good quality. Despite being on a main road remarkably quiet. Fantastic views across the lake too.

Delightful setting

Reviewed By Crispin62

We booked the night in the main house and our 20 yr old son in a tree house. After a very entertaining meal at La Place Verte we repaired to the tree house for an evening drink. By bed time we rather wished that we had booked the rooms the other way around, but no amount of bribing would budge our son. Having said that, the rooms in the main house are thoughtfully and beautifully designed. Breakfast was relaxed and of quality. The stay was a **** experience, plus the fun and adventure of the tree house, minus the pomposity of a grand hotel. Thank you Thierry et Marie. In the immortal words of Schwarzenegger...

For several years we have been stopping here just for one or two nights to start or to end our holidays and to shorten the trip to Spain. We will repeat for sure!! But we should stay longer to discover more of the beautiful villages around or the river Drôme. Romantic, quiet atmosphere in this beautifully renovated “cottage” (despite the vicinity of the highway), nice garden with swimming pool, endless views, home made food with garden ingredients and the owners’ treatment make you feel like at home. 10 points!

Shockingly bad

I’m currently sat in a freezing cold room with three small children late at night. The “24 hour customer support” has told me she can’t help me until tomorrow and can’t reach help until after the weekend. Do not stay. Terrible service and zero ability to fix issues if they go wrong. Also incredibly rude. I’m shocked and horrified and will be moving to a REAL hotel in the morning. Shame on me for trying to support a new business model.

Valsoyo welcomes you in an authentic landscape in the heart of Drôme just 20 minutes from Valence. With its unusual architecture, the estate immerses you in the atmosphere of its themed apartments (different countries) and its insolit accommodations. Discover also its natural park with many activities around a small lake: ziplines, footgolf, orientation course, 3 wheeled bikes, blowgun segway, children games etc. Everything is planned to disconnect you from your daily life and make you live a new experience. We look forward to welcoming you!

So lovely (if a bit bonkers)

I looked for an overnight stop in this area and came across this place. I noticed the TA reviews were really good so gave it a go. Firstly, the grounds of this hotel are absolutely lovely, really beautiful. The hotel I think is also a centre for team building / sports activities etc and as such I can imagine it's really popular - fantastic facilities. We were there on a Friday night and the peace and quiet was lovely. Anyway, we booked one of the quirky chalets as a bit of light hearted change from the usual when going home. The chalets are themed (as are the rooms within the main hotel building) ours was 'Grand Nord' (hunting, trapping, etc) could imagine something similar in a Disney resort. It's quite small but we found it ok with 2 teenagers for 1 night. In the bathroom, the shower head was a watering can!! Upstairs was an amusing challenge to get to up the rustic wooden planks. If you're elderly or have restricted movement, you may be better off in the main hotel. The two chalets are a little way away from the main hotel building and as such the peace and tranquility was lovely. Also worth mentioning that the welcome was really friendly. You could get breakfast but we wanted an early getaway. Summary; Fun 'themed' chalet was a real treat. Ok for one or two nights. Bit of a squeeze but lovely with it! Definitely recommended - we couldn't stop laughing.

Delightful hotel set in very secure gardens with electronic gates. Ideal place for a stop-over. Offered choice of rooms on arrival, both extremely well appointed, one with a terrace the other a balcony. Clean, quiet and very spacious. Given advice on where to eat in the town which is less than 10 minute walk from the hotel. Left overnight but given phone number to ring in emergency. In the morning we were greeted by the owner and again offered different locations in which we could take breakfast, (in shade or in the sunshine on the garden terrace. He was very attentive and provided personal service which was second to none. Very friendly clean well appointed and secure hotel with fabulous rooms. Definite location for stop-over when travelling south. Will visit again.

Beyond terrible: a disgrace.

A deeply misleading website shows an attractive table with guests sitting amongst flowers and greenery in front of the B&B, but when we visited the front of the house was inaccessible because it was blocked by an ice-cream stall and the road was noisy with lorries passing very close indeed. See our photos that are worlds away from the very attractive ones on the site. To access the B&B the only way was via a narrow alley leading to the back of house past stinking dustbins, then up steep, ill-cared-for, badly-lit steps and a steep cracked tarmac path which felt quite third-world. To access our room once inside there was a steep enclosed flight of stairs. Our room faced into a nearby concrete wall looming above us. The room was very ill-lit and drab, with every surface covered with twee nicknacks. (The front rooms facing the canal looked a lot better) The breakfast room bore no relation to the photos on the site and had chipboard tables with chipped paint. Breakfast was tough bread, over-sweet cake and coffee that had been sitting a long time in a thermos. Different people were on duty each morning who made no attempt to provide any help or information or in any way to welcome us. We never saw the same staff twice. We were woken before 8 on our second morning by workmen accessing the loft just outside our room, drilling, banging and shouting. It was impossible to open the bedroom door. The private car parking was up a very steep slope and was very dangerous indeed, being tiny, with an unfenced drop of many feet just in front. It could easily be fatal. See photo. Looking at the reviews on the website it is impossible to believe this is the same property, though there are some as bad as ours. I can only imagine that perhaps because the main season was over they no longer cared. At 90 euros a night it was a total rip-off and if my French had been good enough I would have complained vehemently. Despite ticking all the negative boxes afterwards on the Bookings.com review site our score came up at 2.5, not zero so their algorithms are misleading. With my review I submitted several of the same photos that I submitted here, but so far they have not been published.

The place is a B&B in a very nice house of which the ground floor is used for this purpose. The Rooms are spacious and have a bathroom. They are quite clean. The only problem is that the room windows was directly on a terrace where breakfasst is served in the morning. There is no air conditioning, but a fan is available. The location is quite good, not really close to the city center and the Rhone and Saone rivers. At least 20 minutes of quick walk. The garden and the backyard could be a little improved. In any case a very good value for money.
