Simple but friendly small hotel on the Camino de Santiago

Reviewed By charlesmA5096SK

Few hotels were open. We needed a bed for the night before driving to the Santander ferry. This was the only open place we found. Jorge, the English-speaking manager, showed us to a simple but comfortable room on the first floor (stairs, no lift). We had not found an open restaurant, so Jorge served us a delicious lentil soup he had made for himself, followed by fried chicken. The next morning, we had freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee and fried egg on taost for breakfast. Jorge helped us with our cases. The welcome, the food, and the cleanliness were exemplary. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Excellent stopover

We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely little hotel on our way from Portugal to the ferry at Bilbao. After an 8hr drive it is was just what we needed. With the current Coronavirus situation we deliberately wanted to avoid a large busy hotel and also to wanted to support a small independent business. A warm welcome with a glass of sangria awaited us, our room was warm and spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed. We had a really nice 3 course dinner with an option of pork or fish and a bottle of excellent local red wine, unbelievably priced at 10€ each and 3€ for the wine Incredible value !!! A big bonus for us is that the hotel is dog friendly, they even allowed us to bring our dog into the dining room while we ate, something that has never happened at any other Spanish hotel we have stayed in. Another big plus is that they have their own car park. Our hosts didn’t speak English and we don’t speak Spanish but we managed to communicate. Sadly we had to leave very early the next morning so didn’t have breakfast. Overall it was a great stay at an excellent price, highly recommended.

Provided everything I needed and I was comfortable.

Fairly basic but adequate with Clean sheets and hot water. It was a little bit loud but it quieted down. It was also just a little bit cool but it was one of the first cool days of fall. The room was somewhat small but certainly adequate. Staff seemed genuinely welcoming. The breakfast was OK with eggs and toast and coffee. I saw other people asking for cheese and bacon and there was a fruit tray brought out for one table. Not much to see in the town but I was comfortable and slept well.

Hotel is very nice. Comfortable room, heat works, nice private bathroom. Terrific after a rainy day on the Camino! Their restaurant? Not so much. Wouldn't go back again. Menu Del Dia is a price performer at 10 euros but food is mediocre. Salad is basic, bread on the stale side. Wine? Well, we were spoiled by the Tinto we got when walking through La Rioja so perhaps that is why the table wine here seemed mediocre. We ordered the cerdo/pork - what came was more on the order of a large flat hotdog - very processed. So, not what we've had previously when ordering pork on the Camino. So - plenty of calories but not that much enjoyment. Several other options in town.

This hotel is situated in a little town off the beaten track but we found it and stayed for two seperate nights going to Santander for the ferry and on our return. Beautiful house and very spacious bedroom and bathroom. There was a detailed explanation of everything inluding the wifi etc. The breakfast was delicious and varied and the charming owner was happy to provide anything we might have wanted. It'soff the main routes but well worth going the extra few miles.

What an excellent family hotel run by 2 helpful brothers. They arranged secure parking for our Harleys indoors with a nearby lift to our room. Everything was clean and tidy. No English was spoken but communication was not a problem. The meals are home-cooked and very tasty. Breakfast was adequate but simple. We stayed 2 nights and had an excellent touring day around the lakes and mountains of the nearby national park.
