Great place to stay

Reviewed By Dave W

Although off the main comino path, the proprietor will pick you up from Portomarín within 5 minutes of your call. Staff were friendly and the food outstanding. Rooms were modern, great facilities the menu was varied, would definitely recommend the barbecued steak, it is amazing. When we were ready to leave, the proprietor drove us back to the Camiño with no charge for this service. This is the second time we’ve stayed here and will do so again.

Great place to stay, close to castle. They come to pick you up in minutes and take you to this wonderful white home in the country side that is run by a brother and sister. They are truly lovely and very caring. We had a very rainy day and it was really a flash back to childhood to stay in the place with all the rain outside. Dinner was very good and the place is very clean.

Oasis of calm and comfort

I'm posting a very late review of the wonderful Albergue Casa Sabela from my time walking the Camino Frances in Oct/Nov 2019 - a lifetime ago! I had begun to experience some pain in my leg (shin splints) which required me to take a break earlier than expected that day. The Albergue is only a very short distance off the trail - I walked it in 10 mins and met Mar in the car coming to pick me up. Honestly if you are fit and able I wouldn't think twice about the minor detour to the Albergue. The place, like the people, is fantastic - warm, welcoming and for me at that moment in time a place where I could recuperate in comfort. The accommodation is fantastic and before dinner the various guests assembled in the living room in front of a roaring fire, meeting, chatting and exchanging tales. Even though it was the end of the season there were still quite a few people there and we had dinner together - an amazing paella with all the trappings. Most important however was the friendly and authentic helpfulness provided by Mar and her husband. She went out of her way to help me with a particular request I had. This place is wonderful I would recommend it any time o f the year. Hopefully the Camino will open up soon and I highly recommend this Albergue as a warm and welcoming place to rest your head and nourish the soul. x

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Reviewed By nad66

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. Two couples. Can't express how much we liked the place. Jose, the owner, met us as we arrived and since then made everything to make our stay pleasant. He helped us with some excellent tips about the area - what to see, (events, views etc.) and where to eat.We had breakfast and dinner every day at the hotel's restaurant. Food was great and Jose and his wife cooked some Spanish dishes especially for us. If you stay there don't miss the excellent Paella, the Spanish Tortilla and the white wine from Jose's cellar. The rooms were extra clean and spacious. If you are looking for a place to stay in Galicia, this an excellent choice.

Gracious living at value for money prices

Reviewed By chrisierush

This was the only hotel where we stayed two nights on our visit to northern Spain and I am so pleased we did. The atmosphere between home and elegant hotel make this house a must for lovers of gracious living surrounded by period furniture. The dining and breakfast rooms each having their own character. This was the only hotel where breakfast ham was served from the whole ham in a holder specific to the task. Breakfast came with the usual range of foods and several freshly made cakes (nut, lemon, apple) The kiwi fruit grew in the garden and garden produce was used where appropriate. Evening meals were from a limited choice but beautifully prepared and served. The trout was from the local river. There was house wine or a range of local bottled white wines which were very much to our taste. The bedroom was roomy and the bed very comfortable. The grounds were interesting and pleasant to walk in on our warm evenings after sipping a G and T in the courtyard where grapes hung from the pergola. All the staff were extremely helpful and many of them could speak French or English, luckily as my Spanish is non extant. For an interesting quiet, venue in rural Galicia this is the spot. If you are looking for a downside it is 6km from the main road that leads to the rest of a beautiful area of Spain.

Beautiful, relaxing and great food.

We stayed two nights in this hotel. It is more like staying in a guest house and there is a lovely friendly family feel about it. The house itself and the grounds are beautiful, however our room was very small and once our cases were in we had very little space. The wifi is awful also. However Maria and Miguel are fantastic hosts, the place is beautiful and they have a couple of stand alone little houses for families too. Maria and Miguel do not speak too much english, but they try very hard. There is no menu here , you get what is cooked on the night, but both nights we had amazing food, langoustines the first night followed by a fab beef dish amd the following night salad followed by a traditional galacian pork dish. Deserts were plentiful and Maria makes her own yogurt which has to be tasted!! , just fabulous. The grounds are lovely and we were able to take a few hours on the comfy loungers just reading our books. We felt very welcome and had a really lovely time.
