Come stay in our 'Yurt,' a round cozy cottage nestled in the hills of Point Reyes Station. Private hot tub, California king bed, kitchen. Truly a wonderful experience.

Amazing little getaway spot

Reviewed By alxalx74

My wife and I loved staying in this super cool and unique cottage. The yurt had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. Easy to find and a very private and quiet location. Just a short drive to Point Reyes Station and the National Seashore. Perfect spot for relaxing or a base for day trips around Point Reyes and West Marin County. Our host, Tony, introduced himself on our second day, otherwise we didn't see other people. Tony was very quick in responding to emails and took care of our reservation right away. The hot tub was a nice feature, the weather was too warm for a fire, but there is a nice little wood stove for chilly winter nights. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the coast.

Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound

After ten years of hard work at night and on weekends, with not much more than our carpentry skills and determination, we had a home. We raised children, chickens, vegetables, fruit trees and honey bees here, making blackberry jam every summer. We built the wood-fired oven in the garden, a pond, Jasmine Cottage, Gray's Retreat and the Barn Loft. I was a professional artist for many years, then commuted from the Schoolhouse to U.C. Berkeley to become a landscape architect. Twenty-five years ago I converted the carriage house to Jasmine Cottage. It was the very first cottage open to visitors as a Point Reyes vacation rental. Point Reyes area lodging at the time was just a few traditional bed and breakfasts in Inverness with a couple small motels on that side of Tomales Bay. Inverness was the place for holidays then; Point Reyes was a working cow town. Nobody thought visitors would want to stay in the little town of Pt. Reyes. Because I offered a secluded garden cottage with an invitation to bring the children and the family dog, Jasmine Cottage was instantly popular as a romantic get-away and a family retreat. Sixteen years ago I designed and built the barn that houses Gray's Retreat and the Barn Loft, intended as places for our extended family to visit and as part-time vacation rentals.

Deceiving Photos + Description :: Very Unkept, Minimal Effort

Reviewed By SeekingGlobalComfort

I am baffled that this place holds 4.7 stars on Google. I regularly stay at B+Bs around the United States and this is -- by far -- the least amount of effort I've seen put into an experience or sense of hospitality. It's not the fact that the property is old and falling apart, it's the fact that ZERO effort is made around the basic aspects of a Bed and Breakfast experience. No coffee, no breakfast, very old linens/towns, lots of things broken or left half-finished. The photos versus reality are wildly different. Since it remains off of most mainstream travel sites, they have eluded more critical reviews.

There has to be better places

Reviewed By Richard B

The owner Dona seems like a very nice woman trying to perhaps get by. However the accommodation that we had was far below what one would expect for the price paid. The issues: 1. The breakfast was two store bought muffins, two bananas, two containers of yogurt, coffee h made in the room. 2. The muffins had to be kept in the fridge because of ants. 3. When going to use the microwave in the morning to heat a muffin, there was a glass half filled with old coffee likely from a previous guest. 4. The bed mattress was just fair. 5. The lamp had two switches, one was faulty. 6. The former porch that was our room was tiny. 7. The toilet had old pipes and used toilet paper couldn’t be flushed. Solution, get new plumbing. 8. You have to pay in cash, no receipt, which raises the question, is the State getting the taxes.

Lovely, quiet, nice price for lodging

Reviewed By jupiterchik

We stayed 2 nights recently at Knob Hill. Janet, the proprietor, was very pleasant. The room is as described on the website and photos in other reviews. The location is perfect - you can walk into town on a trail through the woods - we walked back on the road at night though - trail would be a bit dicey at night (bring your flashlight - no street lights). It is so quiet there - nice views, good birding from the little porch, private entrance, gas stove for heat was great. For 2 people - there is really no privacy regarding bathroom issues - so be comfortable with your partner. We did not fill the spa tub - drought - the shower feature is ok - there is a seat or you can stand up in the tub (it's very deep). There is a separate closet/dressing room with a little fridge and coffee maker. Janet left nice teas for us (we aren't coffee people) and half&half in the fridge; there are books to read. You don't hear any noise from main house. Bed is very firm. We would come back. A few points to know - this room would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet is very low, no grab bars in the bath area, very deep spa tub - getting in and out could be an issue for some, steps up to the entrance deck. You can tell that when Janet built Knob Hill there was attention to every detail. The spa tub was a cool feature in it's day. A lovely place for sure.

Peaceful retreat

Reviewed By betsykb

We stayed at the Hideaway, as we have in the past, and our stay there reminded us of what absolute silence “sounds” like. This is the perfect place to relax and recharge your soul. Listening to the duo of owls in the evening while sipping wine is not something I experience in my day to day life! Comfy bed, wonderful patio. A perfect home base for cycling around the beautiful Tomales Bay Area. The Hideaway was very clean and check-in/out procedures were clear and emailed with confirmation. We will be back. ?

Great stay in a very comfortable, quiet setting

Reviewed By jerjon

We enjoyed our stay at the Vineyard. The house is lovely with lots of room to relax outside of the bedrooms. Pastoral setting and excellent wine too! Hosts were great and it's a very short drive to Point Reyes National Seashore as well as the small towns in the area for dining.
