Clean, close by, and easy

We stayed here just for one night on the way in from the airport. Airport pickup was easy, and the location (near the airport) was super convenient. The room was spacious and clean with hot water, and the proprietor was very kind. It was New Years Eve and we'd just flown for 30 hours, so we were worried about noisy celebrations keep us awake, but the property was safe and quiet.

Great location and very helpful staff. However if you are put in the Terrace room expect to hear all the staff shouting to each other, in our case it was the Grounds man standing inside the reception area having a loud discussion with the lady's in the kitchen??

Excellent standard in Manakara

I used to stay in H1 in Tamatave, but I was impressed by the quality of the room, the beddings and the amenities of H1 Manakara. Price is fair for such comfortable hotel, and it is a real joy to get in the room after a long ride by car. Dinner was delicious, I had a grilled fish, although it s more on the pricey side. Overall great stay, and I recommend for Manakara

Great owner

This was a great find, it had a comfy bed, a good hot shower. Though famed for its pizzas we went when pizza was off the menu, however we had some very fine french dining. Located close to a bustling market (though up the hill, so not noisy etc) I would go if you get the chance! Like most of the places to stay in Madagascar this is great for a one night stay on a road trip!

Nicely presented, but not without its glitches

Reviewed By lonewolf44

I stayed here for 2 nights as part of a 2-week group tour of Madagascar. It was a good base from which we could explore the fantastic Isalo National Park. The restaurant provided a hearty breakfast each morning and a reasonable choice of dishes for dinner, which changed each day. Power is solar-powered and therefore can cut out: all the dining tables needed their candles! WiFi was also rather patchy - most people could get it in the reception, but nowhere else on the complex. I couldn't even pick it up there - but a group of teenagers were all constantly glued to social media on their phones. We were also there in the Madagascan winter and the bungalows are not heated, though hot water is available in the evening (but beware: not in the morning!). Our first night was quiet, the second less so - there was a party in a nearby village and the noise of the festivities carried across the plain until the wee small hours.

Cheap, though not good

Very friendly staff, and a so-so spaghetti, but this place doesn't have much to offer. Cheap, yes. Comfortable, not at all. Also very hard to find. You're much better off staying at the "upscale" Tsara Guest House just down the road. See my review there.

I stayed for 1 night and participated in a cooking lesson with Patrick. They have 2 nice rooms upstairs, with a view. Toilet and shower is downstairs. The house is located in "veille ville" in Finar, the old town. Very peaceful setting. The food is top quality. Some of the best in Madagascar, at very affordable prices. Highly recommended.

Good for one night in transit

Reviewed By henkbar

Nice cozy place with very French owner. This made communication in English a bit difficult. The dinner is meant to be communal, but we were placed at a separate table because our French was limited. This limited the charm of the place a bit. When you're fluent in French, this is a great place to stay. Otherwise, still good for one night in transit between Tana and the south.

Grim, odd, avoid

Reviewed By Teuchter_11

Arrived to find it looked nothing like on the booking site. A poster discouraging prostitution at reception was not only odd but off-putting as were the biblical tracts over doors. Were informed there was no restaurant as advertised,. Room was large but basic, TV only showed football and that fuzzily. lights went out within 10 minutes. Were given torch by receptionist . Asked for ice for our (own) wine and got 1/2 a plastic water bottle from the freezer. Breakfast bread and fruit . asked for juice and 30 mins later some liquid came. Wifi ok. Very noisy, net to a mosque and foot ball ground. 3 am call to prayer not sleep conducive. Pool filthy, unfiltered, un-pumped and not sterilized or chemically treated As you guessed we scrubbed day 2 and moved on asap.
