Terrible manager, don’t recommend

Reviewed By Sally R

The hotel it’s self is clean, the food is fine ( very boring menu and breakfast over priced but fine) and the bathrooms are lovely. The Malagasy staff who work there are also lovely especially Deno. The issue lies entirely with Eric the manager who is obnoxious, unwelcoming and inhospitable, and honestly that’s the nicest way to say it. We had noticed the fan in our room wasn’t working - this is advertised as air conditioning and is shocking even when it does work. We mentioned this to one of the staff before going out for the evening hoping it could be fixed. When we got back we asked if someone could come with us to look at the fan. Eric then decided to berated us saying it was far too late (8pm) to be raising problems, we were being extremely difficult and we can’t expect anything to be done if we refuse to speak French ( which is untrue we said the fan was broken in french ). He then proceeded to bring the person we had told the fan was broken into our room almost as if to prove we hadn’t asked. It was a horrible experience, he was extremely threatening and rude and racist towards the boy who we had asked to look at the fan. I highly recommend not staying here. There are loads of other lovely places to stay on the island and everyone else has been great.

Emeraude Lodge

Close to Paradise

Reviewed By Phileas53

Very close to Paradise I was at Emeraude Lodge on May 2022 an I spent one of my best Holidays at all. Quite place, confortable and very good quality/price ratio. Beautiful location. Vincenzo is an excellent host and staff is well trained and always kind and attentive. I could rest at the brand new swimming pool by the sea and my confortable room Baobab was in front of the beach. You can swim from early in the morning in the beautiful Bay and during the day I had nice walks around, and interesting excursions snorkeling in the green tortues Sanctuary not very far from the resort. They have a good organization for diving and snorkeling. I suggest to stay at dinner in the good restaurant with the malgash cook Hervé and the kind barman and waiter Edes. I will never forget this marvelous Holiday!

Les Chalets de Melinda

Like at home

Reviewed By JoseB3287

We made a reservation for just one night and at the end we said we would stay the rest of our vacations in this wonderful place for about 15 days. Les Chalets de Melinda, 5 min. From the beach, a place surrounded by fruit trees (which you can simply enjoy at breakfast) of wonderful nature, each chalet has a fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, mosquito net, fan in bed, peace and tranquility. Tata, the captain and Melinda, are the family in charge of this jewel of Nosy Be and they make your stay with them a close and pleasant family. While each cake has its icing, it has at least two.  Awesome sunsets And a small pool where you can relax after your excursions or a simple day at the beach. Do not hesitate to spend your family holidays, help your economy and it's a good price for your portfolio. Unbeatable price quality. Thanks family. Jose and Paola

Vanio Lodge

A relaxed b&b on the beach, surronded by a tropical garden! Wake up to the sound of the waves and dive into the clear waters of madagascar! Enjoy listening to the sole sounds of nature but make sure to take a (10 min) walk down the beachto the liveliest part of the island!

Beautiful garden on the beach

Reviewed By Andrea S

I stayed there last june and loved the friendly atmosphere. Franco, the incredibly enterteining owner, invited us to have dinner with him numerous times and also drove us around and gave us lots of sugestions on what to do and where to go. The structure is very clean and minimal and really suits the tropical background. Nothing reads vacation and relax to me like waking up to the sounds of the sea and having breakfast on the beach seconds before diving in. Can't wait to leave the city life behind and go back!

Sakalava Lodge

Created in 2000 by Greg, a Windsurf passionate, what was once a simple surf camp became the reference in Madagascar for windsurf, kite and SUP. In a splending park of 5 hectares facing the lagoon, sheltered from the wind, nestled in the shade of the filaos trees, today the Sakalava Lodge offers services that will satisfy a demanding clientele in search of charm, authenticity and sharing. A human-sized ecolodge built of local materials; 100% solar powered, a restaurant offering refined cuisine based exclusively on fresh products, a friendly bar, a kitesurfing center equipped with Airush 2019 equipment, a team of experienced IKO instructors best riders of the country, a windsurfing and SUP center and always the same state of mind that from the first day contributed to the success of the lodge.

A unique place

Reviewed By vingre

My wife and I spent 18 days at Sakalava Lodge in May 2022 on a kitesurf trip to Madagascar. It was exactly the place we were looking for our stay. Welcoming, comfortable and professionally run. Bungalows are located directly on the beach under the shade of filaos and shielded from the wind. The room and the bathroom of our bungalow (number 2) were spacious with good storage space for clothes and luggage (however not enough drying lines for kite gear), a mosquito net around the bed, fresh water (as opposed to sea water in other lodges along the beach) and a small terrace with armchairs and a table. Local rosewood furniture and pebbled floor in the bathroom gave a rustic touch to room decoration. Neither fan nor air conditioning but at no time was it necessary as the wind provided enough natural ventilation. Sakalava Lodge only offers an all-inclusive formula with food, accommodation and unlimited access to the kite center whether for renting equipment or taking classes. This may not seem the right formula for those wanting to use their own equipment. However, all things considered it brings real benefits. First, it takes out logistics issues as bringing equipment to Sakalava Bay is not that easy (at the time we were there only 3 flights a week between Paris and Antananarivo and 3 flights a week between Antananarivo and Antsiranana/Diego Suarez). Second, the equipment provided (Airush) is top notch and in sufficient quantity to equip all users. In almost 3 weeks I never had an availability issue with equipment when I needed to change kite. Food is clearly one of Sakalava Lodge's strong points. Tasty, fresh, with a lot of variety and even with unexpected products such as local "foie gras" or local frog legs. No pre-set menu. Everyday before lunch and dinner Tinay, the lodge manager, makes suggestions based on the catch of the day and products from nearby markets. No obligation to follow the suggestion however. If you just want a salad or a grilled fish the request can be accommodated as well as customers' dietary restrictions. This is very flexible. I haven't mentioned yet the other place's main strong point, the kite spot. Simply amazing. Allowing beginners to safely practice, more advanced kiters to play in the reef waves and big air fans to try new tricks. Greg, the owner and an excellent kiter himself, knows the spot first hand and can provide useful information on weather, wind or the presence of coral rocks. All this makes a stay at Sakalava Lodge a unique experience. Consider however that this is a lodge as opposed to a beach resort. Yes there can sometimes be issues with water pressure in the bungalows or hot water availability but really nothing that can ruin your stay and that the team won't try to quickly fix. Just things that can occur in a remote place in a country largely insulated from mass tourism. To those who are looking for a world class kite spot, great natural scenery and a professionally run hotel/lodge with relaxed and laid-back atmosphere (special mention to the whole team from housekeeping staff to kite instructors) I highly recommend Sakalava Lodge.

Staying on a private island is always special, but Max and his team offer something very special on Ankazoberavina. The accommodation in the bungalows is of a good standard, the Tree House is unique. The staff is really friendly and always there to help. The large, shared table where you enjoy your food allows you to casually socialize with the other guests and feel part of the “Island Family” But what makes it really special is Max’s love for the sea and nature. The scuba excursions are planned in great detail and offer an attractive variety. Max really is a master in planning these and we felt totally at ease and safe.

Bienvenue au paradis

Reviewed By 829stefanief

We just returned from our wonderful trip to Madagascar and don’t want to miss the opportunity to share our experience awe had at the most memorable lodge of the entire trip: Coco Komba. This lodge was our home for 4 nights but if we could we would have stayed forever. This place is just amazing. The lodges are isolated and very quite, it is super clean and the accommodation is fantastic. There is hot water in the shower and electricity all day long. We left our front door with sea view open for the entire time, at day and night, even when we left the room. This allowed us a view to the ocean from our bed and we fell asleep with the soft noises of the sea and the nature. This was fantastic! I read that some people complained about mosquitoes before...1st: There are perfect mosquito nets so there was no problem at all with mosquitoes while sleeping. 2nd: Welcome to Madagascar...for sure there are mosquitoes in the nature. Maybe those people should stay at home when complaining about mosquitoes in such a country... What made our stay so special and unique are the owners, Patrick and Naik. The food and drinks were fabulous-definitely the best in our entire trip. Everything is fresh, self made and even organic and the staff knows exactly how to treat the ingredients to prepare excellent dishes. If I could I would give Naik and the team at least one star Michelin for this cuisine. Next time we’ll arrange a cooking course with Naik, that’s for sure! When we arrived we had very serious health issues from our trip before. Patrick immediately noticed that we were doing well and he gave us medicine that worked-within 24 hours we were fit and the time at Coco Komba was like a recovery program for us. We booked two trips with Patrick and the team-snorkelling with whale sharks and snorkelling at a reef, with lots of fish and turtles. Both trips were fantastic and worth every penny we spent. There was a woman in our lodge complaining about the “high” prizes in her opinion. She was comparing with other tour operators who do those tours with big boats and large groups of people. Sorry, but this is another story and it’s unfair to compare. With Patrick you have individual tours (once we were only the two of us, another time we were 6) and this offers a completely different experience. Naik et Patrick: Encore une fois, merci beaucoup pour ces expériences et aventures inoubliables. Vous êtes fantastiques:-) Stefanie & Manuel
