Charming Hotel

We had the pleasure of staying at this Hotel when visiting Alumencar. It is situate within 100 metres of Playa San Cristobel. The hotel is really welcoming, with staff who cannot do enough for their guests. The room we stayed in was huge, with lovely en-suite and plenty of towels which were changed daily. Thank you Goya for making our vacation perfect.

Hardly got any sleep plus was told off for ants in my room

Reviewed By Ursula Z

Sadly it wasn't good for me. As other people mentioned the walls are paper thin, and I heard loudly people moving about, being 'intimate', and doing other simple things that shouldn't sound like loud noise in my room at night. I spent two nights there, and each night I managed about 4h of sleep. Also, there are a lot of 'rules' on how to behave, and despite following them, you can still be told off ;) (yes, it does feel like a school dorm, not a cheap hotel). I had some takeaway food on my last night, remnants of which were in the bin, tightly knot wrapped in a plastic bag. Some ants appeared by the morning, and I was made feel responsible for that on the checkout. Basically, they check my room and told ME off for the ants! Like it is my responsibility to keep the hotel insects free. And 'no food in the room' wasn't on the long 'not to do' list, that I studied carefully ;) and followed. Room was very small. Yes, it was clean (a basic requirement, met by many other cheap seaside hostels), but it smelt really musky. It was kitted in basic Ikea furniture, which doesn't make it a good enough hotel for me (old but clean furniture works as well especially if it doesn't smell and is fairly quiet), so I wouldn't stay again there. I had a booking for 4 people for 2 night in the near future, and I had cancelled it, happy that I could check this place out on my own beforehand. I think I rather pay a bit more in Almunecar, and not being felt like a nuisance (really for no reason) but like a paying customer. Also, there is nowhere near to park easily, and no bar for coffee or tea, and the reception is not manned in any specific hours during the day - you need to text 10 min before arrival for check-in (impossible if you are driving). Yes the location is nice and close to the beach - but so is for quite a few other hotels, just slightly more expensive, where you are not made feel like a student in dorm where you are not really welcomed. :/

No one answers the phone, and the smell was so bad I left

Reviewed By MalagaMadrid

If you have any issues, no one answers the phone. Also, the 'air freshener' was so strong that I couldn't breathe. It's a shame that more people don't realize how toxic those things are. I ended up not staying as I couldn't tolerate the smell.

I stayed here Tuesday-Saturday, until Friday I was fairly happy (price was too high for the standard of the service). On Saturday I had to catch an early bus and wasn't aware of the fact that the terrass bar on top would be opened Friday night. Travellers should be warned! Unless they want to party during the weekend, it's impossible to sleep with all the noise from above.

Good central location

Stayed 3 nights in this little gem of a place. Staff were very lovely and obliging. Can't fault our rom which was spotless, cosy & comfortable with Bright modern decor. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice of cheese,Pates, preserves, bread, etc served with fresh orange, coffee or tea. Expect a little noise as in the centre and the locals like to put their bins out early hours but this only disturbed me one night and would not put me off staying here again. Very good value.

Hostal velilla worst place I ever stayed

Reviewed By 90Bmcc

Myself and my girlfriend have just come home from staying in a place that makes fawlty towers look 5 star. The staff are pig ignorant, we were told we had a view over the beach, instead the view was looking straight out at a mountain of rock. The safe was broke, the place stank, the shower head fell of and hit my girlfriend on the head while taking a shower, the towels weren't changed, we paid 6 euros for 2 slices of toast and 2 teas and the TV didn't work. The area is nice but the people in Almunecar are the most ignorant people I ever was unfortunate to meet. I won't set foot in that country again never mind the hell hole we stayed in. This is a warning to other visitors to stay away, it's up to yourself whether you heed this advice, but if you want your holiday ruined pick stay in that place by all means!

Mixed feelings

Reviewed By SiempreAlex

We have mixed feelings after the stays here. Let's see PRO Location - beautiful location up to a hill with amazing sea view and beautiful urbanización - beautiful pool. One of the most beautiful I ever seen - beautiful houses (outside) - nice little garden (terrace) - internet is working well Cons - location. Yes is Pro and Cons in the same time. Is up to a hill views are amazing but to climb up there if you are old or you have kids is not the best location. You have to climb about 15 min from the beach to get there. Or a big dependence to the car - house furniture is outdated - small bathroom - the boiler probably have a very small capacity as in max 5 min the hot water is gone - kitchen ustensile are bad quality ( knives not sharp etc) - the sensation is that everything is outdated inside - a very uncomfortable mattress
