Based on reviews here and elsewhere, we expected something more memorable. The food was definitely OK, but the presentation wasn't anything special. Our server was attentive when they came to our table, but some things were a bit surprising. For example, we asked for options for sake, but the person we spoke with seemed confused and assumed we were asking about beer. When someone more knowledgeable came to our table, we learned they really only had one kind of sake.

My husband and I travel a lot, so we’ve eaten in many restaurants—large and small, urban and rural, chain and independent—but our experience here was probably the worst we’ve ever had. We were in town visiting relatives and decided to eat here on a Thursday night in late June. There are two locations in Knoxville; this was a newer one in north Knoxville. Approaching the building, there was a sign indicating entrance to the bar and another pointing to a dining area. We entered there and could see hibachi tables with chefs preparing meals in front of customers. On-line, we had seen an extensive menu so knew there must be more available than this. However, it took at least ten minutes of conversation with the employee at the front before we were told where the other dining area was. He kept saying something about not being able to show us to the other area; it didn’t make sense to us. The sign had clearly pointed to this as the dining room. If there’s another eating area, then indicate that with more signage! Finally, we were led past the bar and into another area with a number of tables. After a considerable wait, a server came to take our drink order. Perhaps she was having a bad day but she was anything but pleasant. I wanted a cocktail but had left my ID in the motel room. I am 76 years old and have the wrinkles and gray hair to prove it, but the server said it was state law that everyone had to be carded. This is not true. Our son owns a bar in TN, so he knows the law. It might be restaurant policy to card everyone, and that’s fine, but that’s not what the server said. Either she didn’t know better, or she lied. Two beers were ordered by others in our group. One ordered a Sierra Nevada IPA draft and the other a Newcastle draft. After a long wait, the server came back with the Sierra Nevada and said they were out of Newcastle so that was changed to a Miller light in a bottle. When the bill came, we were charged for the Newcastle at $4.50 instead of the Miller at $3.50. Pointing this out to the server, she said that both cost the same. We checked the drink menu, and this was not the case, so again, we felt that she had lied to us. The $1.00 difference was not a big deal but with all the other problems, this was just one more aggravation. The food we ordered was ok but nothing special, and it certainly did not make up for all the issues we had to deal with. We will be visiting these family members several times during the year, but I can guarantee that we will never frequent this restaurant again.
