Mostly good

Reviewed By travelinda20

There are some fantastic things about this Inn. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are unique, the area is quiet and residential, there is a lot of interesting memorabilia around. The staff member we most interacted with, Lucinda, was so sweet and accommodating. The walk to town is ok. The sidewalk is across a busy street, although you can walk along side of the road. I'd agree with the score of 76, "somewhat walkable". There is a two week cancellation policy, and I really try to avoid making reservations that are that restrictive. Because, things happen, like Covid and wildfires. Peggy was kind enough to point out that she would provide a "rain check" if we cancelled, that is really not very helpful, as we are from Ohio, and if this trip didn't happen as planned, I was unsure if we would ever reschedule this trip. She did allow us five days prior, which was accommodating and appreciated. Breakfast was very tasty, although the methods were a bit odd. You must choose every single item you want "down to each pat of butter", the day before. And, you have to choose the time you want to eat, in half hour increments. Yes, I know...Covid. But this really puts a damper on the care-free vacation feeling that most travelers cherish. And, every other hotel we stayed at during our trip was back to regular breakfast buffets. So, as I said. Mostly good.

Very disappointed by this B&B

Reviewed By SlackbladderUk

We were expecting so much from this B&B , having read the reviews. There are positives in that it is situated in a quiet street very close to the plaza and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty but there was not much variety. The grounds are in need of some t.l.c. and looked very sad and forgotten about. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The bathroom needed to be cleaned more thoroughly as did the sitting room area. Outside, the metal chairs were not wiped down. It just felt that staff were not going over and above to make sure that guests were comfortable. For the price we would have expected a much higher quality of service and accommodation.

A comforting place to stay when visiting Taos. Robert, the host, is especially helpful and kind. I can't wait to go back. I especially liked the quietness, the view of the mountains, and the proximity to Taos. But I must not leave out the hearty breakfast.

Disappointed for "Luxury"

Reviewed By ebezzy0312

Pros: Gorgeous property filled with unique and expensive art. It is dog friendly and on a beautiful piece of lander our dog to run around. The owner was super nice and friendly when we arrived but unfortunately that’s really the only time we saw her. We stayed in the Native Room (which is sort of an inappropriate name). It was spacious and comfortable and decorated nicely. Cons: I read a review from a woman who must have stayed in the same room and had the same experience we did. Our room was VERY dark and our “patio” wasn’t maintained so there was snow on the fold-able chairs and no area that was shoveled for us to sit and enjoy outside. Our room didn’t really have much of Mountain View’s, just a bunch of hills and open space which was nice, you you had to walk around to be able to see the mountains. The other rooms had fabulous seating areas and fire pits outside of their room. While I realize our room was slightly cheaper, you can definitely tell this is the neglected room. They advertise that there is WiFi. While it works on occasion, it’s not consistent and goes out all the time. I had an emergency and had to contact my family but lost service for a good hour. My fiancé and I had to go around the property restarting routers because we couldn’t find the owners all day, even though they said they live on the property and would be available. I read that they used to do a fabulous breakfast but now they give you a bowl of nature’s valley granolas and one room temperature yogurt. They mentioned it was because of Covid that they couldn’t provide a proper breakfast, so they should advertise their property as a high end house with individual rooms. They also didn’t leave any creamer, only almond milk, in which I am allergic to. Even a holiday inn provides a decent coffee set up. Our room didn’t have a fire place or an outdoor fireplace however all of the other rooms did and they did not bother to light the main area fire place. They gave us minimal towels, a tiny trash can, no robe, bath mat, beach towels to the pool, dray mats in the pool area etc. These are easy and inexpensive fixes/additions. We also didn’t have a TV in our room, so with spotty internet, no tv, no cell service or a landline to call and wish my family a happy New Year and no fire to sit around it was, at times, boring. We even drove an hour to red river to ski. I didn’t see any games or other activities you could use in a remote location. We don’t expect a 5 start hotel and service but for this price we could have stayed at a hotel that has staff on-hand who doesn’t disappear all day, decent internet, with proper coffee and breakfast. I recommend upgrading your room if you’re going to stay here or save your money go to an actual BNB or hotel. This is not a bed and breakfast at all and it’s more just a fancy house owned by people who have great taste but spent all their money on art and not accommodating their guests. Nice people, but they can add a few touches to make this place truly great! I should note we are campers and stay in some rustic spots/adventure stays so we aren’t used to the glamours life by any means but you certainly don’t get what you paid for in the Native Room. Save your money and stay in a real hotel, or even an Earth Ship if you want the real taos experience.
