felt like a halfway house in the middle of Kings Cross

Reviewed By Greggggg123

Springfield Lodge looks fantastic from the outside with a bright, white paint job. The rooms are a little dark and dingy and the red carpets felt dirty. Bathrooms were very dated with a ridiculous shower head. Our window looked onto an internal void or the building next door, and we found light streaming into our room when the 'neighbours' switched their lights on. Cost cutting measures are in place, so don't expect your towels to be changed daily or the bed made, or even toiletries replenished. The reason for this is apparently COVID. So the changing of towels increases COVID risks but dirty taps, door handles and elevator buttons won't pass along COVID. Weird logic. Kings Cross and the surrounds have some decent food options but the people on the streets are a little questionable. We got out of Springfield after 2 nights. We can always visit the area to eat and then retreat to the safety of elsewhere. We were walk-ins and the girl on the front desk kept getting the price wrong and then it somehow increased by 20% when we actually arrived to check-in. We were too tired to argue, but it didn't add to the 'experience', and proves that it's safer to stick to branded hotel chains.,

The Jensen Potts Point

Arguably Sydney’s answer to West Village New York, The Jensen is located in the heart of trendy Potts Point and offers a fresh concept and style of affordable accommodation. Found right among the urban buzz of infamous Macleay Street, our boutique guest house is surrounded by some of Sydney’s most eclectic shops, cafes and restaurants. Once a playground for bohemians, entertainers & modernist architects in the early 20th century, this bustling pocket of Sydney became renowned as the ‘Glittering Mile’ — a red-light strip of neon fantasies, nightclubs, strip shows & 24-hour coffee bars, evolving over the 1960s & 70s. The Jensen Potts Point comes highly recommended as a brilliant location for both short and long term stays. The boutique property is situated on Macleay St, home to many popular delis & dining restaurants, with Kings Cross train station only an 8-minute walk away.

Wonderful cosy place

I’ve noticed aggressive feedback below and I want to advocate this awesome place. I’ve stayed in the room in March and then In June with my partner.I confirm that WiFi requires attention since it’s too too poor but I’m glad that while I was here, the management has been working on that issue. That’s true that Reception isn’t 24/7 but this is Boutique Hotel for people who aren’t familiar with term, it doesn’t mean luxury all inclusive Conrad by Hilton hotel that’s why don’t expect room service, 24/7 front desk service, towel swans and etc. In addition, beautiful and friendly ladies at the reception go extra miles to ensure that you feel comfortable and like at home. The room isn’t big but stylish if you’d like more space go for room with balcony and you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, which you may find at the reception complimentary, early in the morning looking at the Potts Point. Besides, LOCATION, this is the best, the most convenient location in Sydney! You can walk to Opera House,CBD or get the train to Bondi Beach staying away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Also, Potts Point has a soul and you may be bewitched by the spirit of this area. To sum up, don’t hesitate about the hotel, it’s gem of the area and you can definitely enjoy the time here if you don’t expect more than the hotel positioned itself. P.S. Jensen Potts Point, thank you for complimentary snacks each time when we switched the room and thank you, the entire small team for being nice and positive every day.

The Dunkirk Hotel

Built in 1879 and steeped in tradition, the iconic Dunkirk Hotel in Sydney truly has been Pyrmont’s local for almost 150 years. Formerly the Butcher’s Arms Hotel, it was renamed in the 1940s to commemorate The Battle of Dunkirk. This tired old hotel underwent its first refurbishment in over 17 years during the first calendar quarter of 2020 - including its cellar, Main Bar, Garden Bar, Pool Room, as well as a new VIP Lounge now located at the front of the hotel on Harris Street. The hotel's bottleshop has had an upgrade and now stocks an extensive range of beer, spirits, wine, sparkling and champagne. Further plans in 2021 include a complete restoration to the hotel's facade, as well as to our 12 accommodation rooms. We've been excited to see our old girl return to her former glory and to celebrate the immense history of this heritage-listed pub. Boasting a restaurant and a bar, Dunkirk Hotel is set in Sydney, 300 m from The Star Event Centre and 500 m from International Convention Centre Sydney. The property is around 2.1 km from Art Gallery of New South Wales, 2.2 km from The Royal Botanic Gardens and 2.5 km from Sydney Opera House. The hotel has family rooms. Popular points of interest near Dunkirk Hotel include Australian National Maritime Museum, Hyde Park Barracks Museum and Circular Quay. The nearest airport is Kingsford Smith Airport, 7 km from the accommodation. Come and see for yourself why the Dunkirk Hotel truly is Pyrmont’s local.

Not happy with this hotel - overcharged, and did not refund

Reviewed By Rob_from_Sydney2013

We stayed here the night of Sat 5th Feb 2022. The hotel is well placed and certainly clean. The bed is comfortable. However, my wife & I experienced the following issues: 1. I booked using a Dine & Discover $50 voucher - total price $205 for a queen room. as they take your credit card in advance I found when looking at my statement they had charged me the full price and taken the voucher! I brought it to their attention via email (no reception staff on a Sunday) and was told I was wrong. However, the exact same room the following Saturday was priced at $192. Go figure. I know my wife & I were only looking at cheaper rates or we would not have stayed. We thought $155 out of our pocket was ok. 2. The room was smaller than expected (and I did not expect too much) and did not have an office (or visitor) chair as shown in the photos on their webpage, nor would that type of chair have fitted in the room. 3. The amount of light coming form all the LEDs in the room after lights off are excessively bright - I had to rig up covers over them to sleep. When the lights are off there are LEDs on the light switch, the mirror, the tv, the alarm. A manager needs to see this at night for themselves and then actively dull them down. 4. You cannot have a shower (no door) without flooding the toilet floor.

Quirky, good value and great location!

My partner and I stayed at the shakespeare hotel on a Saturday night. The room was simple, but also has such unique and antique details. The shared bathroom was clean and close to the room. The food in the pub was exceptional. We had the sweet potato fries and haloumi tacos. The tacos were delicious, a good size and good value. We had 2 tacos each and shared a sweet potato fries and it was plenty. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The beers were cold and delicious. They also had a killer happy hour daily from 4-6pm with cheap drinks and food. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting a budget place to stay in the inner city.

Average experience in an excellent location

Very run down apartments in an excellent location.... We couldn't use the dyer or the oven as they weren't working and the overall cleanliness was a little average. Everything felt old. The service was friendly and the location perfect for what we needed. Would I stay again....not sure....
