A magnet for skiers and hikers, these dramatic peaks – including the iconic Matterhorn – range from 3,000 to 15,000 feet and spread across three-fifths of the country. Abundant glaciers, scenic valleys and gorgeous alpine lakes add to the region's visual appeal. The Glacier Express train travels the 7.5-hour route through the Swiss Alps from Zermatt to St. Moritz, passing through fairy-tale villages and over 291 bridges along the way.

Hotel Bahnhof

Unique ... yet affordable Hotel Bahnhof is a traditional family hotel since 1902. It has a warm and charming atmosphere. The rooms have wooden furniture and floors, and some have a balcony with Matterhorn view. Bathrooms are private or shared. The new renovated dormitories are very populare. That’s the place to meet people from all around the world. Outside is a big nice terrasse with wooden tables, benches and Matterhorn view. Hotel Bahnhof offers free Wi-Fi access through out the entire house. The guests of Hotel Bahnhof can use a fully-equipped kitchen, with a coffee and hot chocolate machine. We don’t serve any meals. Next to the kitchen is a cozy living area, laundry facilities and a large ski / storage room with lockers. Hotel Bahnhof is 100 meters to the left of the main station square located. It’s a big white building with red shutters. The free ski bus stops right outside the hotel, where the Gornergrat train starts towards the ski slopes.

Convenience and cleanliness.

Budget place, but exceptionally clean and welcoming. Countless places to eat around the hotel an I was lucky enough to see the Matterhorn from my bed. Next to train station as the name implies so an excellent choice if you are in from the Glacier Express, for example, and departing in the morning. Will happily stay here again.

Zermatt Youth Hostel

The world-famous Matterhorn, lovingly called "Horu" by locals, can be seen directly from Zermatt Youth Hostel. Every day of the year, the Youth Hostel offers a charming alternative for all those guests for whom a luxurious hotel room is not necessary to enjoy the Zermatt mountains.

It's my first time in a youth hostel as adult... We really enjoyed this place (location, property, staff). Breackfast is rich, they don't have eggs. I could even had chai tea: very unusual. Dinner was good. If you don't look for fancy, just go there!

St. Moritz Youth Hostel

A top modern youth hostel with a dazzling location: a holiday paradise for summer and winter. Breathtaking panoramas, a valley of seemingly endless vistas, fascinating contrasts and unique skies. St. Moritz is a world-famous, glamorous centre of attraction amidst the ancient, harsh natural environment of Upper Engadine. And at its centre the Youth Hostel. The building, positioned on the edge of the forest in St. Moritz, has an open and uncomplicated atmosphere.

Customer Service

I am currently half way through my stay here. There is a group of about 150 children. Last night they were running through the halls, screaming, banging on doors etc. The first night there was a big party outside for them. As a result I have not slept properly for 2 nights running. They also take the buses at peak times so there is no space for others. I complained & asked for a refund so that i could move to another hotel- even another youth hostel in the same chain/other city but the reception staff would not give me any refund for any of my stay. I understand that it is not the hotel staffs fault but I do expect an exception to be made in these circumstances or at least to put the children on the same floor/away from other guests. I am very disappointed with the poor customer service I have experienced. I would expect something to be done. I will not be staying here again.

Stunning Youth Hostel

Eva was fantastic on reception , helpful , hard working and knowledgeable. The en-suite twin room was large and super clean. Breakfast was better than average with a reasonable selection. The grounds are magnificent and the pool so refreshing. Undoubtedly the best youth hostel I have ever stayed in.

Locarno Youth Hostel

Because the Canton of Ticino is located almost at sea level (at an altitude of 192 metres), it is possible to enjoy a Mediterranean climate from springtime until the end of November. It also means that a large part of life at the "Palagiovani" is spent outdoors - for example at a "Grigliata" in the inner courtyard surrounded by the building's three wings. Naturally, nearly all the modern double and four-person rooms have a balcony. And it's also pleasant to get together on the veranda or under the pergola.

No sleep

Reviewed By heubergen

Not sure if this is on me or not but I could sleep at other hostels before in much bigger dorms. I had a bed in a 2 bed room this time but couldn't sleep for a second the first night and only very little the next one. I can't really say what's the cause, it was not the noise because after 10pm it was very quiet. Maybe the lack of an AC? Maybe the fact that the bed made noises every time you moved only a little bit? Or maybe it's just that the pillow and mattress were uncomfortable. Also, the the check in was a bit of a hassle because the employee didn't speak English very well. The breakfast is fine but nothing special and if you come too late (e.g. 30 minutes after it opens) the juices and breads are gone.

I had one of the best stays on my trip through Europe at Hostel by Randolins. The location is absolutely beautiful with plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails available. They provide a free shuttle in and out of town and train station. The room was very clean and comfortable. Best of all the staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. Special thanks to Laura at front desk for advice on hiking trails. If you go to St Moritz this is where you want to stay.

Overnight stop

Reviewed By AlanMichaelWard

This was a planned overnight stop on our drive from Cogne to Chamonix. There was plenty of space to park and check in was fine so we were soon in Room 202, overlooking the lake. Dinner was good but we were charged extra for desert on our half-board package which was a surprise. A bottle of wine starts at SF39 but it was enjoyable. Dinner is served in the downstairs cafe area but staff were aware of my wife’s GF requirements. Room 202 was compact with no TV or drinks making facility. Breakfast served upstairs was adequate and again, GF bread was offered to my wife. The overnight stop was approximately £250 with dinner and wine. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable experience.
