Shukah

Casual Armenian-inspired restaurant serving mouth-watering flavours from the Middle Eastern

This is the sister of two other Armenian restaurants including Sezer in the city. It's a nice space especially on a warm evening with the window open. The food is fabulous - what the Armenians call 'western Armenian' - now eastern Turkey - so much of the food has a Turkish resemblance. The humble humus was served with a wonderful pide bread - both fabulous. The freekeh fritter and boureq were also great. Prawns, chicken and barramundi were also nice accompanied by pilaf. Delightful service and very accommodating for our friend who does not eat salt - separate, salt free versions provided where the dish included salt by prior arrangement

Yagiz

Chef Murat Ovaz has opened up his own modern but traditional Turkish restaurant. Diners can choose between a set menu or à la carte with a selection of small snacks, followed by entrées or 'mezze', shared mains, eclectic sides and an assortment of sweet T

Located at the end of the busy South Yarra strip, Yagiz is a bright light and airy space. Service is super friendly and welcoming. All the food on the menu looks sensational and comes as family-style share dishes - great way to try lots of different things; every dish we ordered was delicious and had unique flavours. The duck cigars were amazing, as was the baklava. And the Pine Mushrooms with ezine cheese - so good! Great evening with friends. Highly recommend.

We had a banquet dinner for two at this great little Turkish restaurant on the south side of Chapel Street, near the train station. Food was delicious, fresh and thoughtful. We were served with a variety of dishes and attended by polite and efficient waiters. Recommended for having a quiet dinner with loved ones or with friends.

Zurouna

This was without doubt the best Middle eastern food I have eaten in Australia; or probably anywhere. The menu is imaginative, the preparation superb and the produce quality the best. The staff are very welcoming. The pricing made this excellent value for money. We ate here twice in our Melbourne visit; both in house and take away. The quality didn't vary.

Sezar

Nestled down the small Melbourne Place laneway in Melbourne’s CBD, Sezar was opened in 2013 by Chef Garen Maskal and cousins Aret and Sasoon Arzadian. The restaurant continues to attract local foodies, corporate customers and international visitors in a f

Superb fine dining – perfect for a special night out.We chose Sezar because it was convenient to our mid-city hotel during a visit to Melbourne, and expected to experience rustic peasant food from a culture we hadn’t tried before. Instead, we were treated to exquisite modern dishes that, though they may have had an Armenian inspiration, would be a credit to any classy modern restaurant. Expecting that a chef will present his best dishes, the dishes that showcase his talents, his culture, and his establishment, as we have found elsewhere, we extravagantly ordered the 5-course chef’s banquet. We then ordered the matching drinks FOR ONE – at 5 standard drinks, we thought we should share the drinks. WOW! A fantastic gourmet extravaganza! The range of dishes, the subtle nuances of some of the flavours were sensational; the velvety texture of the hommus, with brown butter, was “to die for”, the best we have ever had; the stuffed zucchini flowers tasted as good as they looked. AND, then the desserts! A fantastic mix of new and old treats – glad we had to walk back to our hotel, and glad we weren’t counting the calories.Dominic, the Assistant Manager, and aspiring sommelier, led us through each dish and its components, and introduced the wine that accompanied each dish. The wines themselves took us on an historical and international journey through an extensive range of wines and the cultures they represented, from the chenin blanc from South Africa to the Heathcote, Victoria, white, to the cloudy Georgian amber wine, plus more, and finishing with the superb Portuguese Tokay! A truly special evening! Sezar has one of the most extensive and wide-ranging wine lists of my humble experience, without only covering the traditional European regions, and we thoroughly enjoyed both our culinary and oenological experience.NOTE Though the restaurant usually holds some spaces for “walk-ins”, don’t rely on it – book ahead – we nearly missed out!
