Quirky. Needs an Upgrade. Dinner is Fantastic

Reviewed By SafetyPro-VA

Half the guests were here for work/business, other half walking around in bathrobes for the waters. The place is old and rundown. The rooms are sparse, the towels are threadbare. The dinner was another story - the daily special three-course menu was fantastic. Regional dishes, wonderful desserts.

Very good value for money

Reviewed By nickyportugal

A large hotel overlooking the lake. The room was a good size and attractive, the bathroom was nice but unfortunately the toilet was separate in a small room, not a good idea. It is an hotel that caters for elderly French people on holiday and they sit in odd corners playing cards, but for an overnight stay it was very good value for money. It was also immaculately clean. Unfortunately one could hear the traffic which started quite early in the morning.

Disgusting !

Reviewed By VanthemanII

We arrived after a long drive at 22h00. When we entered our room the dirty towels where still in the bathroom and the garbage was in a bag on the toilet. The most disgusting however was the bed that looked as it was made, but when we removed the top sheet there was a dirty handkerchief of a previous visitor. Nobody at reception finally found a tel.nr. to get another room. This in Covid times is totaly unacceptable !!

A good resting place

Reviewed By Kim C

We booked Campanile Dax because we wanted to have a look around the coastal area nearby, Our dog was accepted as in all Campaniles this is more important than anything else wherever we go. The rooms were comfortable and clean, you couldn't ask for more, a good price as well. The staff are friendly and informative of the area. I recommend this hotel.

Better on the second visit after a refurbishment

Reviewed By Teddysgirl2010

The first time we stayed here the room we were given was very run down but the hotel has now had a good refurbishment and the second time we stayed here the room was very good. The room has a small kitchen with cooking facilities and the bed linen and towels are very clean and comfortable. This hotel is situated on a beautiful lake and is close to restaurants and a short walk to an excellent supermarket which sells bread, meats, cheeses etc. as well as some very good Burgundy wines at good prices.

Horrible

Reviewed By Skytourist

My cell had a small window high up letting in little light. Just needed bars to complete the picture. I didn't want to remove my shoes in the bathroom and had the feeling I would come out of the shower dirtier. No wonder you pay before seeing the room. Not again. Will sleep in the car next time.

Brilliant large pitches

Reviewed By Colleen M

We have a Fifth Wheeler pulled by a Toyota Hilux so have a large rig move around. This campsite had a large choice of pitches we could choose from, so made our lives so much easier. The check in staff were most helpful, and very friendly. We dont use the public ablutions, so cannot comment on them. The site is well placed for Dax (brilliant Satuday market) and St Paul-les-Dax (brilliant Lake to walk around). Only downside was the large Oak trees with falling acorns which could damage your vehicles (or your heads!) but its Nature, so we cant complain about that. Would definitely return.

Great Family Hotel

Reviewed By seebeforeigo

Stayed in Dax on the way down to the Soth West of France this year as part of a tour. We stayed four nights and tour from there. We did not book in advance but turned on spec. Its a family run hotel and Michel and Aline and very attentive and helpful. The rooms are basic en suite but clean and comfortable. The restaurant was excellent and the pool very inviting after a days touring. Nothing was too much trouble. I understand from Michel that he wants to reitre and is putting the hotel up for sale so I hope if that happens it doesn't lose its local French charm.
