We were in town in New Year's Day and it was heaving but fortunately lady luck was shining on us and a table for two magically appeared in front of us as we passed. Staff were friendly and quickly cleared the table, returned with icy cold beers and menus. Can't fault the pulled pork bao buns - fresh puffy buns, lashing of pulled pork and lots of crackling shards - finger licking good. We shared the two with a chicken salad which was ok, a bit heavy on the cumin. No complaints though, the buns, cold beer and fantastic people watching made for a great quick lunch.

We had an overnighter at the Wanaka Hotel and the Bulluck Bar restaurant forms part of that hotel. The menu was OK, not too big to confuse you but just the right size to make a good decision on what to eat. The food was bar/bistro oriented and was well presented and plentiful. Service was very good and because we dined at the hotel a couple of complimentary drink vouchers were included.Price was reasonable, food was very nice and the complimentary drinks were thirst quenching.Highly recommended, particularly the hotel accommodation which was very good and reasonably priced.

Good friendly service, good food and caters for all sorts. We went to watch a rugby game and owner was most helpful putting the right channel on with some volume for us as it was not a test or top level game.

We attended recently and it was hard work on our part. They have a no booking policy......fair enough.....but it was made hard for us. We couldn’t ensure everyone was sitting together.....explanation was other customers may want to sit there. You will only be able to sit near each other. We would have liked to order all at the same time, however the staff made sure orders taken were far enough apart that the kitchen could cope. The first table to order had their meal before the last table had ordered. That table had to find a staff member to come and take the order. Desserts for the first table were served before mains of the last. As we were in a large group and wanted to talk and mingle especially as our meals arrived at such different times staff got cranky with us for moving around. Definitely not a smile from any staff, even though we all knew who ordered what. One member of our group was not allowed to order alcohol because he looked under age. Not a problem, however he was still denied service after showing his drivers license. He had to go back to our accommodation to get his passport. Everything was just too hard for us, we wouldn’t rush back....not even for the food. This is very disappointing to read as we accommodated your group of 20+ very well. As you have pointed out, we don't take bookings. As i remember, your group asked for tables around 5pm, but wanted to drink in the bar and hold the restaurant tables until 6.30pm, which we couldn't do as in that time we could potentially seat more guests for dinner. As for ordering at separate times, i think you are forgetting that we had more guests in the restaurant and bar aside from your group. To take an order of 20+ will slow down everything in the kitchen, including other diners meals. We do the best we can with large groups, and try our best to get meals out as soon as possible. your group were seated on 4 different tables, and depending upon what was ordered, some tables will have come out quicker than others. Staff are well within their rights to ask for ID to anyone suspected to be underage, and the only acceptable forms of ID in New Zealand are:Any current passportNew Zealand driving licence a Hospitality NZ 18+ Card

Wanaka at the time we arrived was very busy. We decided to have lunch here at the Lake Bar, as there was available seating. The lunch menu was adequate and prices on average with most other bar restaurants on the South Island. I had the open steak sandwich and my wife had the soup of the day, Broccoli and Blue cheese. My meal was great with the fillet steak perfect. My wife said her soup was tasty and very rich. Unfortunately the richness gave her a bit of a tummy ache later that day. Service was good and the restaurant cosy.

We have been here a few times and love it, but this was our first time for breakfast. I had the homemade crumpet, stewed rhubarb, fresh honeycomb and clotted cream. Sounds divine? It was!!! My husband had the continental which looked lovely with lots of fresh fruit but I loved my crumpet! I just wish we lived closer so I could pop in for breakfast more often.
