Silver City Hotels | Places to Stay in Silver City

August 5, 2022 Diedre Savory

As suggested by its name, Silver City began as a mining town at the height of the prospecting boom in the 1800s and has survived a long Wild West history that hosted such notorious notables as Billy the Kid and "Dangerous Dan" Tucker. Evidence of its even earlier history can be seen at the nearby Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, where ancient homes of the Mongollon Pueblo still stand. Hikers, cyclists and outdoors enthusiasts flock to explore the scenery of the Gila National Forest.

A good stay

All amenities were as advertised. Nice pool, fast internet, great room & a filling hot breakfast. The only issue I had was that this is an older hotel with narrow hallways, corners & doorways that make it difficult to navigate a loaded baggage cart to & from your room. Otherwise, this was a great place to stay.

DISGUSTING, FILTHY ROOMS AND DESPICABLE OWNERS.

The moment I stepped into the room the cigarette smoke and old mustiness hit my nose like a torpedo. Looking around I could see the dirty baseboards and walls and stained blankets, behind the door was a filthy used towel from the last resident. I went to the front desk and asked the owner for a refund, I could not stay there and I told him why, he immediately started yelling at me, called me a liar, claimed I must have stuck the dirty towel behind the door, the man was INSANE!! DO NOT book this dirty motel, leave it to the roaches and the crazy owner!!

Accommodating and good value for the money

A group of us stayed at Lulu Hotel May 18th-24th, 2022. I found the rooms clean and comfortable with a nice retro look. The motel is solidly built with very little room to room noise. The breakfast was good with all the basics ie. hardboiled eggs, bagels, fruit, etc. We asked that the breakfast open 30min before the usual time and they were happy to accommodate us. I would stay there again anytime I'm in the area.

Excellent location if you're planning to hike the Gila Cliff Dwellings. It's not near the downtown area but very clean and quiet. Very nice lobby. There are elevators should you have a room on the second floor. Very clean room, plenty of hot water for showering and a comfortable bed. Desk clerk very welcoming upon arrival. Nice breakfast area with hot food selections to start off your morning. I would recommend staying if you're planning on hiking the next day to the dwellings. There is a pool but due to the time of year it was closed.

They are trying!

Margaret Padilla helped us to our upstairs room ( no elevator) & said they are trying to improve reviews. Hotel is just so run down. We brought our own towels, sheets, pillows, bleach wipes as we saw reviews and because of Tour de Gila there were no other options. No mini fridge that website listed. Water pressure amazing and then not. Handyman on site fixing things while we were there. Margaret said she was throwing away our pillow that was covered with disgusting ??!? They are trying! It was quiet. Our lock worked. We asked for no services for our room & I guess they don’t service rooms anyway. I hope someone puts some $$$ to fix this place up. A car from a lot above knocked a good portion of the side off. Poor hotel?

Treated us like people and not commodities

My husband and I traveled to Silver City from Charlottesville, VA for my graduation from WNMU. The travel experience was horrendous and full of delayed and canceled flights. By the time we got to El Paso (around midnight), it was clear we were going to have to book a hotel there and were not going to make it to Silver City to keep our reservation for that night. We I called to let them know and ask if they could possibly not charge us for the room that night since we also had to pay for a room in El Paso, they were like, of course we won't charge you! I was amazed. Then when we got there we were given a huge suite that was lovely. I loved the art deco decor and the city is super charming. For people not liking the size of the room, I would request one of their larger rooms... I would definitely return to this hotel any time I visit my alma mater!

Old school charm

Reviewed By Ralphyehle

Our rooms were clean and comfortable. I've stayed here many times over the years, as I volunteer at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and I stay in town on occasion. A very central location within the Historic District. Not real fancy, but one can imagine historic figures of the Old South West strolling these halls. You must be able to climb stairs to the rooms on the second floor. We were on an outing to the City of Rocks park and an astronomy show and didn't want to drive the long hall on Hwy 15 back to the Monument after the event.

Adorable lodge for quiet and peaceful retreat (dog friendly!)

Reviewed By Aprilchloe

We stayed one night in an adorable cabin. The grounds are beautiful and the cabins are nicely done. There is a little patio area with a bbq and tools for cooking. Beautiful views and sounds. Bird feeder right next to the patio and the most amazing birds came by! WARNING: If you choose to eat at the restaurant just down the street from the lodge, beware of loose pit bulls. I was traveling with my poodle (and my friend had her dog) and we were almost attacked by two huge loose pit bulls! They came snarling/aggressive barking and running toward my dog and I turned around to pick up my poodle and just started kicking in the air behind me preparing for a horrible attack. Thankfully, the owner kept screaming at them and they finally went back. I was so scared I had a panic attack and it took at least an hour for my heart rate to settle. Absolutely horrible. Please be careful for yourself, but especially if you are traveling with children or your pets.
