Like most beachside areas Coogee looks a bit forlorn in the off-season and on any day where the sun is not shining. There are many restaurants in the main strip, both European and Asian, many quite appealing but all in the "eat it and beat it" category.Around the corner in Alfreda Street is Osteria Coogee which is as close to "fine dining" as this suburb is ever going to get. The restaurant is large, well decorated in light colours and overlooking Coogee Oval which can be pleasant for some in both summer and winter. I watched the cricket when I was there. The menu choice is completely Italian but changed mainly in presentation to suit modern palettes. The principle is that all dishes are shared between two, so one normally gets multiples of entrées, and quite a bit less of mains. Or at least that's the sensible option. My companion and I had five dishes in total, and they were simply perfectly cooked. My companion had a beautifully cooked dessert which I thought a little too sweet for my taste, but I think I'm excessively conscious of sugar.Nearly all the wines are European and sold by the glass. A very good cellar. It is rather more expensive than the run-of-the-mill restaurants in the area, but it is a significantly superior experience. I was both surprised and very very pleased.Hi Maxmagusn44,Thank you for your review!I am glad to hear you enjoyed your experience and I will be passing along your review to our team. We hope to see back at Osteria Coogee soon. Kind Regards,Rebecca
