Avoid! No air con, smaller beds than advertised and a little shabby.

Reviewed By Sue M

We have stayed in this ApartHotel 3 times and always had a pleasant stay. This time, however, we were very disappointed. The beds are not as big as advertised, the room was tiny and what we didn't realise (our fault) was that there was no air con. Staff were as helpful'ish (under pressure) as they could be re: the small beds - but obviously couldn't help. Its a blame game, they deny responsibility for the booking site advertising that the beds are bigger than they are. Surely its the hotels duty to check all advertising before publication. I rent out two properties i own and i am responsible for all information i upload to a host booking site. I had booked to stay here on the way back from England but will now cancel and book elsewhere. My advise: if you dont mind sleeping in a small (kids size width) single bed with no air con in July - then stay here. If you do mind,- stay elsewhere.

Decent Hotel, Great Location

Reviewed By buzzinn1

The room was basic but comfortable, with a little kitchen, tv, small bed area with twin beds (not much space to move them apart), and good size bathroom. The common areas are somewhat dated but the apartment itself was clean & modern, if not luxurious. We arrived after a long day of travel from Vancouver, four hour layover in Paris, flight to Biarritz, and bus to Bayonne, so we knew that quiet and sleep would be top priority. We requested a quiet room on an upper floor, far from any elevator and exterior noise. We were given a room on first floor, immediately adjacent to the elevator, & overlooking the square where, at around 7:00 pm, a rock band with huge speakers and drums started playing in the square in front of our room. Needless to say it was far from quiet. Due to the reception service being only certain hours, we had no way to request a different room (if they even had one available). However, the band did shut down at a reasonable time and it was quiet through the night. The location of the hotel is excellent, right next to the cathedral and easy walking distance to everything. We walked to the train station next morning in only about 15 minutes. Though disappointed that the hotel ignored our room request, we would recommend the hotel in general for the cleanliness and great location.

Terrible! No shower, dirty, dark, miserable accommodation

Reviewed By Dervla A

Booked a one bedroom apartment at the villa Clara hotel for 6 nights for my husband, my baby and I. Our apartment was terrible. I wouldn’t even class it as one star.. There was no shower in the apartment, I would have considered this a basic requirement for all accommodation.! The apartment was grimy and dirty and the fridge had a foul fish smelling odor which tainted all our food. The apartment was in the attic of the building with a sloping roof & neither my husband or I could stand up straight in the living room which was tiny. The exposed floor boards were extremely noisy and we could not walk around the apartment without waking our baby up. We immediately asked the receptionist to change our apartment but we were told the hotel was full so this was not possible. The apartment was very dark with only a small window in the bedroom & a weird witches hat light in the living area. The red & black decor was bizarre & gave me the creeps! We had to stay here for two nights until we could find a room in a hotel nearby. Definitely not a four star accommodation. Don’t waste your money here. The location is great but stay somewhere else nearby.

Residence and appartment badly in need of a refurb

Reviewed By Philippe H

Positives are that it is a calm location close to a nice beach in a magnificent region. On the downside it is far from an animated town centre so not much to do at night or you need a car, the residence and flats are old and badly need a refresh. Ours was way overpriced. Poor value.

Suited Our Needs Totally

Reviewed By Allez-Brive

We were in Pau to watch Brive play Bayonne French rugby. This is a great place if you are going to Stade Hameau as it is only 20 minutes stroll from the stadium. The other factor was it is really dog friendly. Our giant schnauzer was made very welcome. There is no restaurant but our room had a microwave, two ring cooker and small dishwasher ( although we never used any of them). Opposite the premises is a small commercial centre with supermarket, petrol, bar and pizza restaurant. The parking is safe and has a security gate. Ok it is not in the centre of town but we were not there for that. It is close to the rocade ring road. The rooms are sound proofed. We heard no noise from other guests. If arriving after a certain time in the evening there are no reception staff. They provide you with the info you need to enter the hotel etc. Great, friendly staff here. The downside is that there is no real place to walk your dog freely. However the reception staff recommended the grounds of Chateau Franqueville in Bizaros to walk the dog. Ten minutes max by car from the hotel and an excellent place to walk the dog. If back in Pau for the rugby in the future, will definately stay here. Great value for money.

Not very comfortable for more than 1 night

Reviewed By Angelito77

Pool was not very clean. I was expecting an extra clean apartment due to COVID but in fact it was quite dirty, hence we didnt eat at the apartment or use any kitchen stuff. The staff told us that it was an upgrade, but we found out the following morning when we went to have breakfast, that we were supposed/paid for the 4* building where breakfast was served, not the 3* upgrade we had. It should have been much lower rated. Very dissapointed to be stuck in traffic crossing the city just to stay at such dissapointing place.

Needs sprucing up

Reviewed By Kimberly202

Great location but unfortunately the hotel needs some sprucing up. Whilst the room was clean enough, some attention to detail would have been nice, plus the lobby areas could use a lick of paint. We found it quite warm in the room with no air con although a loud fan was provided. It’s a shame that the windows don’t open because that would have helped to make it less stuffy. Basic accommodation and not too bad considering the price but wouldn’t stay here again due to the above.

This was a very poor experience. The hotel and rooms were in dire need of good clean and renovation. Apart from the breakfast room everywhere felt grubby and uncared for. Hence the breakfast was ok, but lack of choice a had to wait while they went to the shop to buy a baguette as they had run out! Sums it up avoid.

TOO EXPENSIVE AND TOO FAR FROM THE BEACH

Reviewed By Criticonline

Eventhouh the property is located across a nice parc, it is still very far from the beach, and on a hill, so if you are alone and have to bring your groceries or are tired after a long day, it is to avoid. Moreover, the price for one person is not worth it. If you are a Solo, just rent near the beach for the same price in Saint Jean de luz, there are a lot of rentals. You need to be aware that beds ar not made at your arrival, and especially the sofa bed that you have to open yourself and make the bed, so if you arrive late and you are tired, or if you have a back pain, better ask them to make the bed, but it will cost you 8 euros to make one bed! A lot of things are missing in this residence: not having the possibility to buy mineral water is a shame. If you like TV, you must be advised that the TV is very very small and when you are sitting on the sofa or in the bed, you can't see without long distance glasses! Also, if you like to read at night, the light are very low and you can't read easily. This property is for families, but there is ONLY ONE ELEVATOR FOR FOUR FLOORS, and the elevator may stop, so be careful to not go all together with heavy suitcases! I recommend to avoid taking the elevator on the weekend and the evenings...! Staff is nice but does not offer the services of a hotel. You will be on your own like in a rental apartment and have to pay for certain services or will not not get them at all!
