Puerto Rico All-inclusives | Places to Stay in Puerto Rico

May 18, 2023 Ying Subia

Home to sprawling beaches, retail centers, and activity parks, the resort town of Puerto Rico is one Gran Canaria’s more family-friendly destinations. Subtropical temperatures and sunny skies make an ideal climate to soak up rays on golden sands or explore the volanic coast.

Great potential, sadly let down by select few. However I feel hotel have responsibility to manage this.

Lack of security! Guests smoking weed at poolside while children are playing! Very loud and inconsiderate of other guests late at night. I appreciate people on holiday and having fun but no security presence at hotel. Very limited entertainment for children & I mean limited! Again there are limitations but this should be explained to manage expectations.

5th visit - do not come if you have been before, you will be disappointed!

Been here 5 TIMES as kids absolutely loved it at Altamar, and I am here for four weeks. As per previous reviews, nothing for your loyalty. Arrived at 1am my son got into bed the picture dropped off the wall on his head, my daughter has been locked in her room 7 times due to the door handle falling off. Upgraded to all inclusive because we have been before but kids wouldn't eat raw chicken, they actually removed the whole tray and put it in the bin when informed and presented with it (whilst watching at least ten other children eating it.) I was charged for 3 adults for one adult and two children. Bear in mind I was willing to upgrade for the FULL four weeks at £630 per week. On my sons birthday we were waiting for the lift to eat out at a booked table and I accidently got in before some Spanish guests got out. A Spanish rep came into the lift and physically hit me across the lift, my daughter was crying and other guests went crazy at her!!! I smile and use my manners with everyone, especially on holiday. Because my kids wouldn't eat the food they had to get food from outside and was told they cannot eat it on hotel grounds only in the rooms, that's not what we came on holiday for to be in the shabby room that is falling to bits. We were offered to move to the sister hotel that possibly may have better rooms and food but a lot smaller with only one pool (which I could of originally booked at a fraction of the price so declined. Kids had their heart set on this holiday because they have been here so many times before. I called reception one night because a couple were kicking off for hours and was told he doesn't want to know as he has had complaints for the last three hours and his only option was to call the police. I advised him to do it after the lady left her three kids in the room wondering round the hotel screaming for her partner that must of cleared off. I have watched guests kick off, swearing at staff calling them rude !***!s and they got a free bottle of wine. Absolutely backwards. Also first time with Jet2 after learning they had lost Tui as a hotel, never once complained about a holiday but this one I will be getting a full refund! Once the hotel responds to this review we cannot respond so I would ignore any of the responses provided by hotel on here! I also recommended it to family and friends who have had this booked for months, a party of ten and they have just cancelled. Not worth your hard earned money.

Before we start, ask yourself what you expect from a 3 star hotel!? I wonder if some of the reviews have been written by people with 5 star expectations…. Now for me, the most important thing is, is it clean and are the beds comfy. Well, yes and yes. We were very happy with the standard of cleaning in the rooms and the beds were very comfortable. Next, how friendly and helpful are the staff? They are lovely. They can’t do enough for you. Happy smiling faces everywhere. The food isn’t a big priority for us. But it was actually pretty good. You could have an omelette made to order for breakfast and often there was something being cooked fresh to order at lunch and dinner too. If there wasn’t something we fancied, we would just eat out. We had some lovely Tapas in the mountains and ate at Oscar’s by the harbour and had lovely food there. There are loads of restaurants at the Europa centre just over the road too. The drinks are fine and you often get table service(this depends on how busy they are) It is at the top of a very big hill. So to get to the beach is either several hundred steps or along the roadside(also quite steep). Not ideal if you have mobility issues or are just unfit. But taxis are reasonable. 4 euros gets you to the beach or back and they are easy to get.

This hotel is lovely the food, and staff nothing is to much trouble for them, spotlessly clean everywhere. Super quick checking in. Came in February and it was excellent and now back again, slightly busier. But nice people staying here young and more mature. Lovely for small children due to water play area and super safe baby pool. It's all you need for a lovely holiday, Amadores beach is just a 10 minute stroll downhill from hotel. €4 back in a taxi. Lots of night life just up the hill at Europa centre again very easy to access by taxi and a nice downhill stroll back to hotel. Second time here this year coming back in September. Very highly recommended.
