Casa de Oria

Quaint and clean

Reviewed By BTrek5

We arrived on an unexpectedly busy Saturday night when many better rated hotels were full. Lucky for us. Casa de Oria and host, Carmen, exceeded our expectations. The Casa is a bit vertical with about two rooms on each floor. All the rooms we saw were simple, clean and sweet. Zero concerns anywhere. From what I could see walking the rest of the village, a bit up the street from the Casa de Oria, this is one if the best places to stay.

We travel regularly through the Teruel region on our way to the Pyrenees and as our normal Casa Rural was fully booked, we found Hostal Antiguo Hospital on Trip Advisor under Speciality Lodging, which made it difficult to find especially as it did not appear on the map. Linares de Mora is a beautiful tiny village perched on the side of a mountain in the Sierra Gudar. Cobbled streets twist and turn, up and down and Hostal Antiguo Hospital is situated at the top end of the village. The area is noted for its beauty and proximity to the ski runs of Valdelinares. However, you must go in summer, the hotel was quiet, as was the village and the surrounding countryside a delight for nature lovers with butterflies, birds and outstanding wild flowers to see amidst the breathtaking scenery. There is parking outside the hotel, but also if not available, it is possible to park nearby. The room we had was very spacious with room for a sofa and coffee table. The bathroom had a small shower, bidet, basin and toilet. The room was spotlessly clean, as was the bed linen. The bed was also very comfortable. We had booked in only for one night and had booked a table for dinner, which is served in the old chapel of the hospital with fantastic vaulted ceilings! I was pleasantly surprised at the superb quality and presentation of the food. There was an all inclusive menu for 19€ which started with a plate of jamón and meats of the region with cheese, cauliflower pate and grated tomato. The wine list included local wines too at very reasonable prices. For the first course I chose a dish of bean hummus with local sausage and caramelised onion which was gorgeous, my husband chose revuelto ( A kind of scrambled egg) with mushrooms, jamón and beans, also delicious. For main course we had casseroled chicken with pineapple and raisin couscous and fillet of pork medallions in a mushroom sauce, both tasty and beautifully presented. Finally a wild berry cheesecake and coffee to finish. We were served perfectly and professionally by Paulo, the owner. We both had a good night’s sleep and breakfast was a lovely Spanish breakfast of local meats, cheeses, grated tomato, local honey, fresh bread, hot croissants, juice and superb coffee. Paulo even remembered that my husband is a left handed eater and set the table with his knife and fork the right way round for him! Service indeed! We spent an hour wandering round the village taking photos before we set off on the last leg of our journey. The satnav took us out of the village at the top end and we spent a couple of hours driving over the summer ski areas, so beautiful in summer. We have booked in for the return journey and will really look forward to it and this will now be our regular stopping place when we drive to northern Spain or France!

Royuela Hostal

a nice quaint accomdation with friendly hosts

Reviewed By neel s

this is a nice hotel in a very small sleepy town. about 10 mins drive to albarracin. we were on the 2nd floor (no lifts) with a sofa bed. the beds were comfy and the room was well ventilated. the bathroom was huge. the only issue is that the town its in is very quiet and sleepy. the only supermarket and panneria is only open from 9.30 am to 2 pm and after that the only place you can go is a bar in the main square (1 min walk from the hotel) where you can get coffee, crisp and alcohol (no food) you can eat in the hotel's restaurant - menu 15 euros with 3 courses and a bottle of wine. very nice food and the host is very accommodating with your suggestions and request. I would defi stay in albarracin next time (not because of the hotel) as there are things to do around the hotel. i would recommend this hotel if you got a car (free parking) or if you just want to chill out in the hotel and enjoy the views and dont want to do something - as the town is verrrrrrry quite. breakfast was basic but adequate - tea/coffee - toast we didnt get any wifi on the 2nd floor - had to come on the first floor or reception area

Nice surprise

Reviewed By 929beverleyp

Stayed 1 night on our way to Southern Spain. The building is a beautifully converted silo. Lovely tiling, tasteful decoration. Very clean and comfortable. Room was very small but the fabulous views from the 4th floor made up for this. Restaurant served a decent menu del dia for €10 which included a bottle of wine. Staff were pleasant and attentive despite all communication being via translation app and hand gestures. We were able to leave our car within a secure compound which was brilliant as we had a bike on the roof. Staying here was well worth the slight 13-14 mile detour off the A23.

much you win, just a little you lose

For the price (we paid €171 for 3 nights with breakfast in July, towards the height of the tourist season), Fonda La Plaza, with its copious, varied breakfasts and truly friendly welcome, is unbeatable. You're in a 14th century building, overlooking, in one direction, the tiny Plaza d'Espana, in the other the lovely arc of the equally venerable bridge over the Rio Matarrana. Rooms and beds are comfy. Downsides - but hey, if you've made it so far into one of Spain's wildest quarters, you're fairly adventurous and creature comforts aren't your first priority - are no air-con and no lift/elevator. For us, they were way outweighed by Fonda La Plaza's charms.
