We stayed in the Castillo El Collado Hotel (highly recommended) and the first night we had dinner at the Michelin star restaurant (De Los Parajes) in the beautiful, old, Laguardia Town centre. We found the food at El Collado actually better, presented well and bigger portions. You also cannot beat the views when sitting outside- you can almost see the whole Rioja region. Will definitely be back!

We were a bit dubious when we arrived at this restaurant. We were early and were invited to view the cellar downstairs, which we didn't find to be very interesting. We were then seated in the restaurant, the first people to arrive, so it was lacking in atmosphere. However, our waiter changed all that. He was extremely friendly, gave us lots of information about the menu, helped us choose the wine and advised us we only needed to order one dessert !The portions are copious. We had the cote de boeuf for two for the main course. It was beautifully cooked, tender, with big friend potato slices. I am only sorry we couldn't do it more justice.Very good meal, friendly ambience.

Came here for lunch having read the positive reviews.Service was good at the beginning although we were left to deal with our coats.Nice room with lovely views. The restaurant clock was showing the pre 28th October time on the 7th November.Ordered fish soup 7/10 and crab salad for starters 5/10. The fish soup came in a tureen self served on to a COLD wide brimmed dish meaning the soup went tepid very quickly. No condiments like crotons or grated cheese. The crab was a mush and unremarkable. For the main course we both chose monkfish. This was served with 3 tasty prawns and sat in a sauce of the soup I had just eaten(!). No veg, or carbs of any description accompanied this €22 dish. The monkfish was presented as 2 large fried balls in a light batter. Not good. 6/10 at best.Little cooking skills demonstrated anddisappointed we skipped desserts not wanting to lengthen the ordeal.By this time there were 5 tables full in the restaurant. On leaving we were largely ignored. No ‘hope you enjoyed your meal’ or ‘thanks for coming’.The bill including 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees came to €83. Could easily have spent €130 here had we had aperitifs, a bottle of wine and desserts.Wouldn’t return.

Located on the outside wall of the beautiful town of LaGuardia, the restaurant has a lovely outlook over the countryside. We chose three courses from a la carte, including a fantastic fleshy octopus entry, massive rib eye (Chuleton) and lovely soft chocolate fondant. The wine list is reasonable with a good selection of local wines. We had a mix up with food - despite the English menu, the waiter does not speak English and the dishes were lost in translation. There was a waitress who came later that speaks English. Apart from that we enjoyed the dinner. Prices mid €20’s to €40 for big plate of beef. We would go again.

Amazing food, wonderful service. The black olives were to die for, even my husband who hates olives loved these. We chose the 14 course option, which was plenty for us although there is a 21 course option too. We were so full we couldn’t indulge in the cheese course which was a shame. Probably best not to eat anything during the day so you have plenty of room for the wonderful food to come.

We took the lunch Menu de Degucacion (tasting menu). It turned out to be six imaginative and delicious courses served up at a fairly high pace in some 90 minutes. At 40 euros we considered it reasonably priced for this quality, and wine was even cheap at 2,50 for a glas of delicious Crianza. Parking was easy and free in the neighbourhood of the hotel. Service very friendly although not much English spoken. Overall a big success! The restaurant was recommended to us by the staff at hotel La Capellania in San Asensio, also a nice place.

15 euros set menu was excellent- plenty of choice, efficient service. I really enjoyed the beef with the fruity sauce. Excellent. Although the menu is not in English the waitress does speak. The waiter was fantastically efficient. We both throughly enjoyed our lunch here.I am presently drinking the coffe here, it is excellent!Plenty of good wineries in the area. The Frank Gehry hotel is within view.

Anyone that follows my comments knows I am always measured and fair in my reviews. However this one is hard to make constructive. The architecture and grounds are worth a visit however on returning to celebrate a special birthday dinner, we were exceptionally disappointed. We asked earlier in the day for reception to recommend the best (of the 2) restaurants for an informal atmosphere and varied choice of food and were booked into 1860. Please don't bother! The staff were polite but the food was far from 5*, presentation of food was very basic (we'd had better pinchos), there was no vegetarian option (on asking, the restaurant manager said maybe fish!), overall service was disjointed and food mediocre. No atmosphere what so every in this restaurant, in fact it was more like a canteen feel! we asked for the lighting to be turned down as it was so bright. A large family with children trashed their table, and although fun whilst their birthday and cake slamming was brief, on leaving the remaining 4 couples had to sit and look at the mess whilst the waiters stood and looked at us. Basics .. clear the table. Be aware of other diners. An array of coat hangers and badly placed coat stands greeted your entrance to the restaurant toilet, the bar area toilets on the ground floor were worse still, so messy and dirty I discretely advised the staff of this. Reception is uninviting, bright & guest were queuing to check-in or raise a query for over 10 mins. Really ... for a 5* hotel. Please go take a look at the superb Viura Hotel a 10 mins drive away, great ambience, excellent customer service and a lesson in good taste and interior designer. Marquet de Riscal you let us down very badly .... the only time on our fabulous wine tasting tour of Rioja. Very disappointing after wanting to visit for so long.

Average and mediocre food. The menu consisted of an immitation of 14 "ideas" pioneered by another restaurant (i.e. Echaurren). From the introduction the molecular black olives were very good as both concept and taste. In terms of appetizers ,"fresh grass" was totally disregardful and could be an issue for a divorce with your wife. From the first part red prawn carpaccio was decent. On the other hand sweetned pork ravioli was an equal to a junk food quality. From the second part, roasted squab was good. For the above mediocre menu we paid €300 (two people) including a decent bottle of marques de riscal. Absolutely not worthy the michelin star awarded to the restaurant.

A Laguardia local recommended Luis Alegre to us. We tried to get in on the Saturday but it was totally booked so went on the Sunday and arrived early. Fabulous service as we were the first to arrive. We had the 60E "Portiles menu", which seems expensive until you realise it comes with two bottles of amazing wine. It was a meal of anticipation as we went from starters through a really interesting chorizo-potato mousse type dish followed by a not-too salty and beautifully presented bacalao salad. The foie gras was exquisite served with a really interesting rosemary and apple puree. Next came the boletus soup which was poured over croutons at our table. I love mushroom soup and this was one of the best. The hake was served with a nutty sauce which lent it a superb texture, followed by a very tender steak. Pretty much full at this stage we both had the roasted salted pineapple with cardamon ice-cream to end. Delicious. What a find. One of the best meals we've had in Spain. Would definitely recommend booking this restaurant and taking a 10 minute walk down the hill from Laguardia, although the restaurant does have parking.
