Home to nearly nine million and powering an economy that exceeds both Hong Kong's and Thailand's, Osaka packs quite a punch. The confident, stylish city is a shopping hub, with fabulous restaurants and nightlife. It's an ideal base for exploring the Kansai region; Kyoto's World Heritage Sites, Nara's temple and Koya-san's eerie graves are within 90 minutes by train. Top city attractions include the aquarium, Osaka Castle, Universal Studios Japan and the futuristic Floating Garden Observatory.

Exceeded my expectations!

Reviewed By Dcuniverse

We were looking for a "value hotel" and got a great deal from a travel site.. booked this hotel at more than HALF THE PRICE of similar hotels in Namba and nearby Universal Studios Japan. At this price, we were not expecting too much (just the basics and adequate comfort ). We were blown away as this hotel exceeded all our expectations ! It's located very near Sakurajima Station. Travelling from Kansai Airport to the hotel is a breeze, with just 1 quick transfer . The stations have elevators so its very convenient. You can easily wheel your luggage to and from the station to the hotel. Location is also within walking distance to USJ and a Ferry Service which will take you to the Osaka Aquarium. As mentioned, its readily accessible by Train. (as low as 190 yen or $1.70 one way fare to Namba/Dotonburi area) After a tiring day from walking all around Osaka, we would stop by one of the 2 nearby convenience stores (Lawson and 7-11) to grab some midnight snacks (or for breakfast). Or, you may just head straight to the hotel and get snacks from it's 3 vending machines. They even have an ice cube dispenser with cups. Grab some free amenities at the lobby on your way up..must haves are the Sakura Bath Powders for a hot dip in our room's bath tub to sooth our aching feet and muscles. Water Closet is very high tech and one the i would only expect from a 5 star hotel (in fact the 5 star hotels I've been to don't have this) La'gent really made us feel its our home away from home.

BUDGET FRIENDLY HOSTEL

Reviewed By mylawebb

I stayed for 10 day sin Hotel Mikado in South Namba and it was such a good choice!! If you plan to stay here, make sure that you take note of the directions! I came from Kansai Airport and I took the train going to Namba Station. Get off at Shinimamiya Station and take the EAST EXIT! as you go out of the station, cross the street on the right side (stop light) and walk towards Family mart near the Police Station, the street in front of Family mart is the street of Hotel Mikado, it's about 3min walk and the hotel will be on your left side. OR you can get on the Osaka Metro (subway) and get off Dobuetsun-mae station and short street on your left will take you to Hotel Mikado Check In is way and fast, they will give you the wifi password, they will also explain about the facilities (shower, spa etc.). The 8th floor is for women only, I think this is also the floor for private rooms, there's a toilet there so as to save you from going on other floors to use the toilet. I have used the showers on the Ground Floor and it has never been busy. I like that the towels, robes, and everything else is very accessible at the ground floor, you don't have to ask for it. If you're staying for more than 3 days then the room can be cleaned, you just have to tell them. The hostel is very convenient when it comes to transport. JR lines and Subway are just an easy 2-5min walk depending on which you are taking. I had a JR pass for the first 5 days I was there, so I was using the main Shinimamiya station and switched on to the Dobuetsun-mae Subway line after that. There is a Mega Donki from the East Exit of Shinimamiya, turn left and cross on the traffic light and it's on the second floor of the building, you won't miss it since the big logo is there! I was on an evening flight going back to Manila, and the check out at Hotel Mikado is at 10am, but if you want to check out at 1pm, you will just pay 500yen but if you want to check out arnd 4pm, then u will have to pay the full day rate for the room, I did pay the 500yen because they have someone checking in already that day and they can't extend my check out time anymore, but you can leave your luggage there and come back for it when you're ready to go. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone who wants a budget friendly accommodation. Sure, there's not a lot of space in the room, but if you're not bothered with that, then try staying here. There's a mini fridge and a small table inside the room, but no chair. I've never been a good sleeper but surprisingly was really able to sleep and relax here.

What a joke! Absolutely disgusting

Reviewed By elmayzz

Pros: - convenience stores and restaurants nearby Cons: - The area isn’t the best, bit far to walk from the train station if you have luggage & there was a man urinating on the road right out the front of the hotel. You’re best off staying somewhere like Namba - Hotel looks modern in the photos however it’s in need of a major renovation - There was dirt and marks all over the walls, we had to wipe the wall next to the bed because it had nose droppings on it! - Bed was so uncomfortable my partner and I were waking up with a sore backs every morning. You can literally feel the springs! - You can hear the trains going past at night - They don’t use fitted bed sheets on the mattress so the mattress is then exposed when pulling the covers and it is disgusting when you see it (the mattress was yellow with stains all over it) I wanted to vomit! - Bathroom fan had a thick layer of dust of about 2cms (you’d think they would clean that every time?) - To top of our stay housekeeping broke a personal item in our room when cleaning & the hotel did nothing about it and all they said was “we spoke with the housekeepers and they said they didn’t do it” then continued on to say that “housekeeping is an outsourced company so they can give us their details to contact them directly to discuss”. We were leaving in 2 days to go back home, the hotel should have investigated this more! Worst customer service I have experienced - Following the day the item was damaged, we came back to the room and our room wasn’t even serviced for some unknown reason. No explanation or nothing. Everything was just horrible about this place and it was such a bad end to our trip. After long days being out sightseeing all you want to do is come back to a nice bed & we didn’t even want to come back to the hotel because it was disgusting and we didn’t feel comfortable to stay there. Spend your money elsewhere at a more decent hotel that you don’t have to worry about your stuff being damaged when you’re out for the day!

Great Location and Felt Very Authentic

My wife and I had a lovely 5 nights here in January. The rooms are Japanese style which we like. The daily servicing was good. The rooms are fairly modest in size but well organised and comfortable. The front desk team were very helpful. The location is superb with lots and lots to do in the locality. The communal bath in the basement was great and kept spotless. We'd stay again.

Comfortable Stay at Great Value

Reviewed By 1reneec

Hotel prices during the holidays are so overpriced but glad that I was able to book this hotel considering the location, within comfortable distance to Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi shopping street. The rooms are small as expected but clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. What I like most was the lounge area where you can have free coffee and tea. Guests are allowed to hang out and enjoy their take out food in the area. On the first few days of January, they provided guests with matcha tea and some Japenese sweets for free, which was appreciated. What I would say I didn’t like was their towels. A lot of their towels had some sort of stain, which would be visible if you closely check it against the light. My husband didn’t mind but I’m very particular about it. It’s the first time I encountered such thing in the several times I’ve been to Japan. Everything is almost always spotless. Anyway, overall it’s still a clean hotel and my issue on the towel may be minor to some. I would probably consider this hotel again when I visit Osaka considering the friendly price and depends also on my itinerary because it’s quite far from the main train stations.

Good location, great bathroom

We stayed here for a night and chose this place mainly because it was within walking distance to Osaka station. The hotel is situated in a small alley, but with many eateries nearby, and also convenience stores. It is about 10 minutes walk from Osaka station / Umeda station. Reception was friendly, quick and efficient, and check in check out was really smooth. The room was standard size of a Japan hotel room but the bath was very spacious. Unlike normal Japan hotels, the toilet bowl area, sink, and bathtub area were all separated. Enjoyed our stay and would stay again given the good location!
