Caught entering my room

Reviewed By kdoszak

I was at this resort with my son for a father/ son trip. Had a great time, up until the second to last day. We came back to the room from 2-5:00 to relax. Around 4:00, there was a light knock on the door. Before I could get to the door, there was another light knock, and then the door started opening. When I pulled it open, the worker looked startled, and said "just making sure everything is ok". I told him yes, and he said OK, and walked away. I called the Concierge, and they knew nothing about it, but said a manager would be calling me asap. After 1 hour with no call, I went to the front desk. The Concierge said she forgot, but that "another room on the floor called for something and he must've had the wrong room". How did he know he had the wrong room when I answered? When the manager finally came over, he said that the room next to mine needed a shower curtain replaced. Again, how did he know he had the wrong room when I answered? My son is 10 years old, and has severe anxiety. He was extremely scared that someone was going to come in to our room the rest of the trip, and wanted to switch hotels. I convinced him to stay, and the manager offered us two breakfast buffets. I was sick and tired of not getting a direct answer, so I accepted. I will never stay here again. Very shady!

Great family friendly hotel

Our first visit to Orlando and the Hyatt regency grand cypress. First impressions were good, the hotel is huge and it’s quite an impressive foyer/building when you arrive. Check-in was speedy and friendly. The room was nice, good bathroom and well furnished, though there was a small issue that there was not enough storage for the 4 of us (2 adults & 2 children), we coped but it was a pain. The breakfast was awesome and the pool area was fabulous, the kids loved it. There are lots of activities that you can do that are all included too, pitch and putt, climbing wall and kayaks… oh and bikes! The service round the pool was excellent and although the drinks were expensive, they were good, as was the food at the pool bar. Location wise… it is great for all the parks… Disney and universal were close and there were loads of fantastic restaurants nearby too. Ubers were really easy and great value. The staff at the hotel were really friendly as was pretty much everyone we met in the US.

Excellent budget hotel

Reviewed By 481kathryn

We were really impressed with the hotel. Everything felt brand new and clean, our two bed suite was huge and spacious. My girls (9 and 13) enjoyed having a queen bed each in the main area while we had the double room and we made good use of the kitchen for breakfast. The air con was a bit cold and noisy so we just turned it off at night and the room was comfortably warm (uk room temperature) if we just slept under the sheet and first blanket. With coverlet pulled down. There was loads of space under beds to store suitcases and hooks to hang swim wear to dry. However the double room needs more hangers or shelves as three hangers each wasn’t enough. The transport to and from parks was excellent, the early park entry a great perk and the pool and restaurant basic but lovely. Our room was also cleaned to a great standard every day. We didn’t have any issues with noise from neighbours, however the sound of traffic from the road was very loud so glad I brought ear plugs. If we came again I’d pay more for a poolside view as that might be less noisy. Also I don’t think the barman should be begging for 20% tips for just pulling a pint or slushy (with no conversation or attempt to earn a tip) as that made drinks unnecessarily expensive. Otherwise we had a lovely stay so would definitely recommend.

Disappointing

Was here for a conference. Very expansive, very crowded and in need of renovation as pretty dated. Despite the high rate you do not even get a complementary bottle of water in the room. Check in line was also extremely long. There are definitely better and cheaper hotels around, maybe just not in universal.

Universal’s Cabana Bay

Reviewed By sharris528

We recently visited Cabana Bay on our trip to Universal Studios. Cabana Bay is like stepping back in the 60’s with the cute vintage, neon signs and 60’s commercials playing while you eat. The best features of the hotel are the pool with nightly movies and the lazy river. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of the price of parking and the general expense of everything at the hotel. We ate once at Bayliner Diner and the food was not good and for a family of four it cost $75. We also did not do the bowling as it cost $13.99 per person. As well, we did not do the game room due to the cost. So while there are many things to do at Cabana Bay, just like everything at Universal, it will cost you!! One additional comment, our room overlooked Volcano Bay, I loved looking at the beautiful lights all night, however, the park starts playing music at 7:00 am, they also blare a horn every 15-30 when the waves go on at the wave pool.

Although we asked for clothes rails and gor them ASAP. Straight out of our door in the waterpark and bar area and in the main pool is a short walk away.

The place was clean and fun. Lots to do in the resort to keep kids busy. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. The waterside are well maintained. The cabanas are a little expensive but we did use one for one day. Came in handy. Only left the hotel once for a magic dinner show and the kids never got bored.
