On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

Every day at 8 a.m., we start chopping veggies, soaking beans, and prepping our mesquite-fired grill. Not because we have to, but because we believe in delicious flavors made-to-order, from hand-rolled enchiladas to our sizzling fajitas to guacamole made

Had dinner delivered this evening. Simple, kid’s build-your-own mini tacos. Left out the drink and dessert (not a great dessert, but it’s the principle). Grilled chicken fajitas NoOnions. Remember that order for the photo. Needless to say we won’t make that error in judgment again. Shame, we live less than 2.5 miles from them.

We were in Concord for a show. We decided that Mexican food was what we wanted for dinner and Fiesta was close. The first thing I noticed was the huge menu. Then they brought out chips, cheese dip, salsa and green salsa. The green salsa was really good. So were the others but we ate up the green salsa. I had the steak and shrimp fajitas. I passed on the tortillas and rice to keep the carbs down. The dinner was great. The next time we're in town we'll definitely be back. I do wish that they offered beef stuffed pablano peppers with cheese. But seriously, this is a good Mexican restaurant.

El Vallarta Mexican Restaurant

There is no shortage of Mexican food restaurants in the Concord area, and I believe we have tried all of them, or at least all that have been reviewed on TA. And our favorite – drum roll please – El Vallarta. Now located in the Carolina Mall, the restaurant has been updated and renovated from its former location across the street. But the food has remained as good as ever. Prices are reasonable, particularly if you go with one of the specials run on weekdays. I have been ordering quesadillas lately, since that is the Wednesday special when we usually go. All 4 styles are excellent. The yolandas are also wonderful as is Maria’s Special. There are drink specials as well but my go-to beer, Dos Equis Amber, 24 oz. on draft, is cheap. Service is quick, friendly and efficient. Our bill, including, aforementioned grande cerveza, usually runs less than $25. All told, we’ve probably eaten at El Vallarta 20 times and keep going back. That sort of says it all.
