We had dinner on our last night in Detroit over in the community of Corktown. In a nondescript building on Michigan Ave, was a very unique Thai Food Restaurant. Once you walk thru that large steel door, you know that you’re for a treat. We were seated at a community table with between two other couples, which provided for good conversation. Our waiter soon appeared and we ordered drinks and an appetizer which quickly showed up. We ordered our main courses with steamed rice. The entrees came out as they were prepared and everything we ordered was delicious. Some of the best Thai food we have had. Must get it a try….

This imaginative, eclectic and beautiful restaurant is a transformed service station in Corktown. It looks very unassuming on the outside, but walking through the front door is like being transported to another world. The Southeast Asian-inspired food is as exceptionally beautiful as it is delicious. It has a funky atmosphere and is simply a great place to spend an evening.* I just learned the restaurant was tragically burned by arson in Feb 2017. I hope the owners decide to rebuild or find another property to bring back to life.

The Detroit Shipping Company is an innovative restaurant space made of shipping containers. There are a number of food vendors there, including one serving excellent Thai food and one serving very good Tex Mex, as well as a Nepalese dumpling vendor and one serving more traditional BBQ type food.Well worth a stop there for lunch. We had a great tofu red curry dish as well excellent vegetarian dumplings and a super Tex Lex salad, all in a very clean and chill environment not far from the Eastern Market
