While the restaurant is a bit small, the staff is very attentive and friendly. The chef has been working there for over 20 years and it shows. The flavors were very distinctive. I was there for a special buffet luncheon which included crab cakes, salmon rolls, chicken satay, something that looked like pork schnitzel and spicy beef and several different types of rice and noodles, some with seafood some without all of which was great. The salad was crisp and the dressing light and flavorful. Sadly, I learned that the owners of 25 years have sold this and their Walnut Creek restaurant, however, the staff is staying on as well as the recipes. So I will be back.

If by chance you find yourself in Concord, hungry for Thai food, Wat Phou is a great place to have lunch or dinner. Wat Phou means "temple on the mountain" and is one of the oldest archaeological sites in southern Laos. While you will never mistake Concord for Thailand or Laos, you can take a short trip to Southeast Asia by visiting Wat Phou. The fresh spring rolls and Pad Thai are in my opinion, the best items on the menu. We visited there with my sister who is a vegan and they were happy to make everything without meat, fish or poultry for her. We also requested cashews instead of tofu and several other substitutions which were all cheerfully provided.I am not a big curry fan, but one of us did order the yellow curry and pronounced it "excellent".The service is fast and friendly. The plates arrive family style and sharing is the way to go.There is plenty of parking. The interior is cozy and it is hard to tell that the place is located in a strip mall. The prices are reasonable - you can easily have dinner and drinks for (2 people) around $40. You may even have enough leftover for lunch the next day.Wat Phou has been here for years and has a loyal following. After you eat here, you will understand why.

Good atmosphere, friendly service. The menu was a little daunting, but with help we had a nice selection of dishes. Mom was set on yellow curry chicken (excellent choice). I love the drunken noodles. We rounded out the meal with summer spring rolls, tom yum soup, and barbecue beef. The beef was a bit tough and gristley, but tasty. Whatever we didn't eat we lovingly packed to take home. The hard candy that came with the check was an unusual taste treat. I plan on returning for lunch someday.

We are excited to bring you our authentic Thai and Lao food. We prepared a small batch and fresh every day. You will not be disappointed.
I have been going to Woung Luang for years with friends who work in the area. The food is consistently excellent and reasonably priced - and the service is friendly and attentive. I love red chicken curry and they have one of the best versions that I have tasted anywhere in the East Bay. A reliable spot for fresh, well-prepared Thai food.
