Nobu West Hollywood

Nobu has remained in the top three sushi destinations in Southern California and this location is proof why they deserve to remain there! The service is A+++ with attentive, informed, outgoing and friendly servers. I would have to imagine that the service is aided by the fact the tab totals are normally so high, the serving staff is making some descent wages here. What ever the reason, its really nice to experience great service. The menu is quite varied for even the most fastidious diners. If you have any dietary restrictions everyone will ensure you have a quality experience without missing a beat. I've ordered so much here that I can't ever say I had a bad dish or meal. I always ask the servers for suggestions or popular favorites to help narrow things down a little. Be sure to make reservations and then in turn, stick with them so you don't upset the balance here.

Wow, Katana is a beautiful place and where the many beautiful people living and visiting in L.A. go in my humble opinion. The highlight is not the gorgeous waitresses, waiters, hostesses or guests....it’s the food. Listen, I’m six foot plus and around 250 lbs, I wasn’t expecting big heaping portions of food. What I did expect (and what I received) was top flight food, freshly prepared and served hot. That is was indeed, delicious and coupled with great cocktails. We unfortunately didn’t get a chance to eat outside but the interior was gorgeous as well. It’s pricey but due to the location and quality of food/service it’s a definite to do if you are in the area. A nice touch was the free dessert given to me and my wife from the management thanks to it being our anniversary. That was classy and on top of that the manager took time out to speak to us and that was the cherry on top. Our waitress Isabella was top notch and knowledgeable and knockout gorgeous! I want pre-authorized to make that statement from the wife !!!! Lol.

This fine dining restaurant is simply put, “very LA” and fits right into the West Hollywood vibe. The exterior and interior are exquisitely decorated in a cool and classy Oriental/Asian theme. The dining room is spacious but not massive, resulting in a feeling of privacy and comfort. I love their drink menu! Many great wines, a full bar and signature mixed drinks for sure, but also hard to find Asian beers and various brands of sake. They have some interesting appetizers including the shishito peppers, which are tasty and mild. The sushi is some of the freshest and best tasting I’ve had, with numerous creative options. For something different, try the crispy rice rolls. These are NOT your typical crunchy rolls, as they are much lighter and the rice does not overwhelm the sushi as with some crunchy rolls. They have many other great choices for those who are not in the mood for sushi. They provide impeccable and timely service throughout your dining experience. Enjoy Koi!

Catch LA

ABOUT Perched above the dynamic streets of the West Hollywood design district on the corner of Melrose & San Vicente, CATCH LA is the west coast outpost of acclaimed New York restaurant CATCH, as conceptualized by Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum, the duo be

This archetypal LA hotspot is packed with beautiful young women pretending to be rich and rich middle-aged men pretending to be young -- along with the usual mix of nightclub sorts cheek by jowl with hapless tourists seeking an “LA experience” and the off chance to eye an A-Lister.If you are no one of particular note, you will be treated as if you have unlimited time and unlimited patience. Not once in dining at Catch was I ever seated within a half hour of my reservation, evidently a near-universal experience shared across reviews. Perhaps Catch should designate reservation times will be honored according to the Alaskan and Hawaiian time zones vs. the Pacific. What’s even more puzzling is that this happens when the restaurant is packed but also in the rare moments when it is largely empty! The most charitable explanation for this strange tradition is to allow guests extra time to perfect their selfies in the entrance hall, but the effect is clear: guests are lucky to have secured a coveted spot (reinforced by bouncers enforcing the list at the street level front door) vs. the restaurant lucky to have paying customers. It is little surprise that while waiting… and waiting most Catch patrons pass the time cocktailing. To increase throughput, some cocktails are pre-mixed, most notably the “Meatpacking Manhattan” which is neither shaken nor stirred, but removed from a refrigerator in a Catch-branded flask and poured into a glass. The effect lacks the theater and bespoke mixologist preparation of a hand-crafted cocktail – more like cracking a Manhattan-flavored White Claw – but the end result is tasty and the block of ice upon which it is poured is nothing short of crystalline.Once seated, ordering at Catch is a Catch-22. This is yet another place where “Chef” requires that guests order all of their food at once. With a broad array of appetizers, small plates, seafood towers, nigiri sushi and rolls, sashimi, skewers, oysters, entrees and sides, estimating the right amount is impossible even for repeat guests who want to try something new. The waitstaff is unable to describe the size of most items beyond “pretty small” with the admonition to order additional dishes, “just in case.” Toss in an extra Cantonese Lobster ($97), Prime Porterhouse for 2 ($140) or go big with the American Waygu Tomahawk ($195) “just in case”? Why not all three? This trend needs to stop (cf. reviews of Redbird and Otium). Not only do cold and hot courses ordered all at once arrive pell-mell, some of them have clearly been prepared ahead of time and simply removed from the refrigerator as well (I’m looking at you, Tartare Trio), belying Chef’s need to have all items ordered at once. You may go away hungry, over-stuffed or just right, but the important thing was that neither Chef nor the staff were inconvenienced. The unfortunate coda to all this rigamarole is the food and grog at Catch overall are quite tasty and the setting is beyond festive with large and small parties alike whooping it up as if we’re in the 10th year of an economic expansion. If Catch could strip away the condescension it would make for a grand night out. Then again, condescension is of course part of the appeal, and the trio of ice princesses at the hostess stand have perfected the art. Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum have harnessed the nightclub effect in full flower. Prepare to wait for it, but your Instagram likes will be priceless… and what’s a few hours of your life enjoying pre-mixed cocktails vs. the FOMO of your friends and followers?
