Rakuu

This place was NOT run by Chinese like so many other sushi outlets. All the staff were obviously either Japanese or Korean which was heartening because both nationalities truly know all about decent sushi and how to prepare it. However that's where my joy ended. This restaurant's sushi was nothing remotely like what I receive in Japan and Korea. They only remotely resemble sushi but the fillings are something else. Like how about cheap mashed up canned tuna with huge amounts of mayonnaise !! Or what do you think of chicken with lemon sauce... in rolled sushi ?? Sound authentic? Please spare me :-( In fact nothing I got could be purchased in Japan or Korea. The condition of my sushi was terrible too. They were very roughly assembled by obviously untrained staff (I'm guessing backpackers).I haven't tried this restaurant's cooked food but if the sushi is so bad why would I risk anything else? As to service, most of the kitchen staff and waitresses looked pretty unhappy. The sushi prices were on the low side compared to other restaurants but the low sushi quality didn't warrant charging more. What a shame, shame, shame!

Sushi Kuni

At just $4 a plate for any plate on the "sushi train", the old saying "you get what you pay for" is apt. The tuna rolls appeared to be sandwich tuna between rice spread with cheap mayonnaise. This could be said of the all the noori rolls. Cheap fillings with store bought sauces. The food is far from authentic and you can eat much tastier Japanese if you buy the hand made rolls from the IGA supermarket a few doors away. This used to be a cheap lunch option with OK food, however the last three times we've eaten here the food gets worse with each visit. Do yourself a favour and eat at O'Sushi in Byron Bay if you feel like Japanese.Thank you very much for your review. We use authentic Japanese mayonnaise and we make all our sauces in store which our chefs put huge amount of time and effort into. I'm so sorry that we couldn't meet your standards, we will work harder to please everyone's tastebuds!! Other than the tuna mayo rolls was there anything else you were not very happy with? We would love to hear your opinion. Thanks again and hope you're enjoying this beautiful weather.Kind regards,Sushi Kuni

I had the crispy soft shell crab sushi - you have to go early to get it as it sells out quickly and I have often missed so I wish they would make more
