La salicorne

You go to a French seaside resort - you expect good French fish cuisine. The place to find it is at the Salicorne. Only a limited choice, but so much the better for that. Excellent presentation and some unusual ingredients. The desserts are pretty good too. Perhaps slightly more expensive than the average restaurant, but well worth the extra. Not too many tables, so it's worthwhile making a booking.

.. actually, not true.I decided to eat here tonight because they were the only restaurant in town that last night just allowed me to sit and have a quiet drink without food. All the others on the sea front were only taking "eaters".Anyway, the Saint Louis found me a table, made me feel welcome and served me the glass of red that I wanted. So, tonight I dine in Saint Louis! And it's very good. I only had the moules sauce bleu (you have to ask, they're not on the menu) and I'll probably have a dessert too. But, the ambiance is good, the moules are good. Try it!By the way, this is not a restaurant where the moules come in a gigantic enameled blue pot that looks great until you find that lots of the shells are empty and many are unopened ( ie DEAD before cooking, so don't eat them). Every one was a delicious little nugget of moule surrounded by a mild blue cheese sauce... heaven

We were looking for somewhere for brunch and this place looked that little bit different and a bit more sophisticated than the surrounding restaurants. I am so glad we ate here.It is well decorated inside and very modern, it was a comfortable place to eat on a very hot day.The staff are lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We had Eggs Benedict- mine with avocado and my husband's with bacon- really tasty and decent portions.Lovely coffee and a whole cabinet full of gorgeous cakes which I am looking forward to on my next visit. The atmosphere was very jolly and the clientele were clearly regulars who received a warm welcome- but then so did we as strangers.Spotless bathroom.Lovely people and lovely food- it will be lovely to return.

Comptoirs de l'Ocean

Had a lot of time to plan our latest holiday in France--- though I was only to be responsible for getting there and back--- and for the journey back, needed to choose a Treport Restaurant. Of all that I checked, the one that really appealed was 'Comptoirs'. Nipped in before we found our hotel, met the cheeky chappie waiter and reserved an early table. Mme went for the oysters gratine' [5] from the 18.90€ Le Matelot menu; pour moi, the L'Ocean @ 30.50€. From our corner table by the window I could watch the restaurant opposite- Le Homard Bleu- and see people buying large oysters to take home to enjoy( unopened). My entree was 9 Normandy oysters and no way did they compare well with those from further south-Charente Maritime. I expected plump, or even plumptious but they were thin and straggly [-] Still, I had my mains to look forward to ---moules a la creme - and they more than made up for it. It's a bit annoying when you open up a large mussel shell and find some piddly little molusc inside; these were the exact opposite: small shells but busty in the extreme. The only other problem was that if you order them as part of 'L'Ocean'---- you get a double helping!!!... so a bit of a struggle to polish them off-- but just about managed. Warm goats cheese salad for my wife. The next bonus was my extra course - cheese- which was a wedge of camembert (x2) rolled in filo pastry- cornet shaped- and baked. Then our desserts: I went for a small gooey chocolate cake; Mme for the crepes chantilly. We watched the rain tamping down outside, then scuttled back to the car { free parking opposite after 7pm} when it let up a bit ---- will we go back????

La Calypso

Chosen by my daughter-in-law on the strength of the ratings given on this web site we arrived as a family group that included a baby.. We were grudgingly shown to a table at the back of the first floor restaurant that involved carrying a baby buggy through the the crowded ground floor room, up a narrow staircase and through fellow diners. Service was slow, servile and, unusually for a French restaurant, they got the order wrong. I was served the worst kir I've ever tasted. Clearly they realised that we were unlikely to return and didn't need to bother. They were right, I'd need to be pretty desperate to eat there again.

Les Mouettes

This restaurant is seasonal and at the top of the beach. In winter it is stored and reconstructed for the beginning of March. The speciality is seafood. Many people eat here for a view of the sea and sunset is always a great experience. It is moderately priced, not cheap. Speciality is local fish and mussels. The menu is quite wide and you can eat meat. Service is good. It can get very busy in fine weather

Arrived early to the restaurant, 7pm to making sure that I'll be well served...As a fine gourmet I selected the scallops menu, which was described as a top choice.Disappointments arrived quicker than the dishes, the appetizer was a poor blend of salty fish with salmon. Followed by a over cooked mussels and little portion of scallops (what a shame a it were super over cooked) and then nothing... Waited half an hour for nothing, remainder to the maître d that I'm waiting for the main course and nothing...Finally I lost my appetite and left the restaurant, what a shame, i picked that restaurant due to TripAdvisor reviews, bad experience you are alerted!

Le Treport has a sizeable selection of tempting looking restaurants along its harbourside. Ignore them all and continue to the end, turn the corner and instead choose this small restaurant opposite the casino. The €17.50 menu (note: only available before 21.00) is stupendous value. We started with fish soup - a generous portion and properly hot (so often its served tepid and the cheese doesn't melt). We followed with fresh and succulent skate. Desserts were also delicious. As the meal was so cheap we treated ourselves to a more expensive bottle of wine than normal; picking the Quincy. This was absolutely gorgeous sauvignon blanc at its best and a perfect accompaniment to the fish we had chosen. As we walked back to our hotel we noticed that although our restaurant had been packed, none of the competition down the harbourside was more than half full. That tells you everything.
