Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourgish: Esch-Uelzecht pronounced [ˈæʒ‿ˈuə̯ltsəɕt], German: Esch-an-der-Alzette or Esch-an-der-Alzig, French: Esch-sur-Alzette) is a commune with town status in south-western Luxembourg. It is the country's second "city", and its second-most populous commune, with a population of 33,286 inhabitants. It lies in the south-west of the country, on the border with France and in the valley of the Alzette, which flows through the town. The town is usually referred to as just Esch; however, the full name distinguishes it from the village and commune of Esch-sur-Sûre which lies 45 kilometres (28 miles) further north. The country's capital, Luxembourg City, is roughly 15 km (9.3 mi) to the north-east.

We were looking for a restaurant that would have typical portuguese cuisine outside of Portugal.So, in Europe, what better country to find one than Luxembourg, where 1/5 of the population is Portuguese?Looked up and found this restaurant, apparently known for the Portuguese cuisine.The place is quite spacious and well decorated, and the staff look well presented, and even though not smiling too much, they were helpful when needed.My dissapointment was with food. Apart from the "Dish of the day", no other item in the menu (not counting desserts) were typical.I believe that when you search for a typical portuguese cuisine restaurant you are expected to find dishes like "Bitoque" or a "Francesinha" when not in a fancy restaurant, and, of course, fish dishes, especially Bacalhau (cod).Good food, though. Nothing to say about what was served. (Entrecote, Picanha and Chicken).And the music? I think portuguese music isn't all about brasilian music! During the hour and a half we were there, it was all brasilian music. Not one from Portugal or any other portuguese speaking countries...

I had read about Esch sur Salzette.... Much larger than I thought. After circling for a while we found a parking spot in front of this restaurant. My French is not fluent and they were gracious enough to help us with ordering. I wanted light, so they made a special salad for me Nice stop after a morning of driving.

I visited with parents and parents-in-law for a lovely lunch. Everyone was served fresh, copious and heartwarming dishes (warning this is not a light lunch joint!) with accompanying wines and deserts.The restaurant is airy and spacious, without being unwelcoming, they even have some sneaky parking in the garage downstairs (worth asking for). Service was convivial and very professional, would love to go back.

I chose this restaurant in Esch based on the Tripadvisor rate and pics. I was very pleased with the good background music and the deco itself. The service and the food were really good. Portions are big for a good price.
