Grimaldi's Coal Brick Oven Pizza

We grabbed dinner here while attending a national conference just across the road. We have dined at other Grimaldi's over the years in Las Colinas, south of Denver, and elsewhere. The one here in Allen is right on par. Even on a busy summer night, we were seated immediately. Our sever, Jenny, was exceptional. There were some grand wine choices. We ordered a custom wood fired pie that was served to perfection. A real delight at a reasonable price!

Covino's Pasta & Pizza

This is a small neighborhood family restaurant tucked into a corner of one of Plano’s shopping centers. Seating is available both indoors and out (basically in the parking lot). The menu has all the Italian choices you’d expect, including pizza, as well as several house specialties. The best part: BYOB. We were able to snag one of the last outdoor tables on a Friday at 6 pm – soon after the place was full. It’s noisy, tables are close together and small (it felt like we were eating on a postage stamp). Our group ordered Braciole, Chicken Agnolotti, Shrimp Parm and Veal Parm. The verdict – good! Portions are ample. There’s no ambience here – nothin’ fancy - best visited with friends and a few bottles of wine.

We had a large party - 12. That’s always a challenge! But our server - Gelly! - was great. My son and his wife were hosting and they made everything easier by pre-ordering for us all. There was a slight mix-up on the pizzas but they fixed it right away and comped is for two pizzas! We started with salads and then their amazing pretzels. I could have been done after eating just that! But we had pizza too! I had a slice of their fig pizza with Gorgonzola and balsamic. Holy cow it was good!! It was my grandsons birthday and so we were slow finishing and getting out. The staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating! I’ll be back!

The staff at Fireside Pies is excellent. This is a good place for a business lunch or dinner. But, don't go there for the food. The pizza isn't great. The vegetarian selections are quite poor. It's also quite expensive. Waaaaay too expensive for the poor pizza, And ... even though the name says "Fireside" ... there is no fire to sit beside !

My family and parents (8 in party) went for dinner on a Tuesday night. Not crowded at all. We placed our order, the waitress was very kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. 4 ordered pizzas and 4 ordered entrees. We got calamari for our appetizer which was delicious and not rubbery. The sauce is REALLY spicy, but good. When another lady, not our waitress, brought out the calamari, I asked for more bread, and after she went to get it, my two daughters said she rolled her eyes at me after I asked. Weird. The 4 entrees came out first, and then about 10 minutes later each pizza came out about 5 minutes apart. We had started to eat our entrees since it was taking so long and because we were by the front door and the cold 30degree air was cooling down our food. My husband was the last to get his pizza (almost 20 minutes after we got our entrees) after almost everyone was done eating their food. The waitress apologized, but gave no reason for why it took so long. The food was just ok, and not good enough to come back.

Urban Crust

I took some out of town co-workers here for a casual dinner. It was a mostly good experience with a couple of exceptions I hope they correct. First of all, it is not a very big restaurant, despite the three levels. The first level has a typical restaurant feel, the third has a bar atmosphere, and the second I would only sit in if I had to. The second level mostly has a narrow bar to eat along a busy corridor. Service was friendly and accommodating. You sit yourself in the bar area, which makes it a great option when they are crowded, which they often are. Pizza was excellent, especially the crust. One of the pizzas we ordered was a special with Lockhart burnt ends. I love Lockhart's burnt ends so was excited to order that. It was tasty but their were so few tiny pieces of burnt ends that I felt like it was misrepresented. Otherwise the pizzas were excellent and I especially loved they did overload them with too much cheese. That allowed the crust and other ingredients to shine through. Their beer is always extra cold, which I like. One other thing I wish they would change was the odd strolling musician. It did not add anything. Tip: When the weather is nice the rooftop patio is a perfect option. Otherwise, I really like sitting in the bar. Hospitality Factor: Mixed. Front of the house was harried and unorganized. However, the wait staff in the bar was friendly, helpful and prompt. This is a great option when you are in the area.
