The population at the 2010 census was 12,321, a loss of 5.4 percent since the 2000 census figure of 13,022. It has been the capital of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation since the United States Civil War. The name is from the Creek word oki mulgee which means "boiling waters" in English. Other translations put it as "babbling brook" or 'Effluvium'. The site was chosen because of the nearby rivers and springs. Okmulgee is 38 miles south of Tulsa and 13 miles north of Henryetta via US-75.

Saturday night after 8pm. Quick and friendly service. Food was excellent. I had the Jalisco Special - Shrimp, chicken, steak over rice with cheese and onions. I skipped the bell peppers. Very good. Comes with tortillas. Large portion with plenty leftover for lunch the next day.

Stumbled across this restaurant while driving to another destination. Huge menu selection to choose from, with 6 pages filled with items written in small print. It was hard to decide what in the world to eat because there was sooo much to choose from. Service was super quick, from the time we ordered until the food arrived was a matter of just a few short minutes. Ordered guacamole and queso. Their Guacamole is made with lemon and tomatoes/onions. White queso...very good. Large cups for drinks, so no need for any refills. Jalisco dinner -grilled flavor with a melt in your mouth cheese sauce. Almost licked the plate it was so good! Cheese enchiladas were topped with chili sauce and chunks of beef. Wasnât excited about the surprise chunks of meat, but the flavor of the chili sauce and enchiladas were great. Only $28 for all of that food and two teas. What an exceptional value for great tasting food and great service. Saw another El Charro in the next town. Not sure if theyâre a chain, but if so, I hope theyâll consider expanding to Lake Texoma!

This is strictly for travelers wanting to drive thru & back out on I-40 or Hwy 75. Very small inside sitting. As a local great food & quick & friendly.
