We were staying overnight at the Five Towns Inn across the road for a connecting flight at JFK. I’d read about this restaurant beforehand and thought we’d give it a try!The restaurant is nothing to look at from the outside and could easily be overlooked. Nice simple, home style decor inside with friendly efficient waiting staff. The portions here are huge so be careful of what you order. The place seemed to be busy with regulars and also quite a lot of takeaway orders were being prepared during our visit. It was freezing outside on the afternoon of our visit and the warmth indoors was appreciated. We had a nice meal here and the coconut cream pie for dessert is delicious.Would visit again if in the area. Probably a better bet than some of the other restaurants in the area around the airport.

This visit to Crabtrees was our first since it opened. Mediterranean/American style is not my first choice for eating out. But to make the wife happy and our friend happy since it was her birthday and our 50th anniversary. The service is excellent with water being repeatedly refilled and the crumbs removed very quickly. The 1st thing that annoyed me was this pesky fly throughout the whole time we were at the table. No one is going take swats during a meal so I have no solution. The front door is constantly being opened. My 2nd problem (and I know it is my fault), was the vegetables. Each dish comes with mashed potato and a mix of vegetables like yellow and green zucchini, stringbeans, and pieces of broccoli(ugh) and some slices of beets (ugh 2).For starters our friend had the buratta salad and i shared the escargot with wifey. That came in the full shell on a plate of garlic sauce which is what makes this dish so good. For main course our friend had the darla's chicken, wife had the salmon and I had the porterhouse style 16 ounce pork chop. The chop was huge and covered with sauteed peppers and onions. The chop was very good but I probably would have been happier had I stuck with my first thought of getting 2 appetizers and a salad. I studied the menu and really wanted the calamari plate and the escargot with a salad.Appetizers and salads run from $11-15 while most main dishes run in the teens to 30+.When we arrived the place was not too filled but when we left on a Sunday nite , it was packed. If you are still hungry for dessert, get the gelato.

I have been here before about a year ago. Nice atmosphere, clean lines. The problem is in the portions we were served, they're a bit small. Not sure if 'family style' is a relative term. My family needs more food. A few of us weren't able to sample the appitizers served. We had to share the dessert with our other table. Individual portions, while tasty and well seasoned, were not large enough for most of us.(maybe we eat too much) Perhaps this a forced diet move. Maybe the portions were average size, and we were looking for diner size. This was memorable from the last visit as well. Might go back with one other person, never more than 5 persons. It's great to hear the atmosphere and food itself were impressive, Francine, but I'm sorry if the portions weren't what you were expecting. It's true to say that we don't prepare our dishes to accommodate more than four or five in a family, so that may be the issue here. We'll keep this in mind, though, and we'll check to ensure the waitstaff is helping out when you're making your orders. We truly hope we'll get the chance to welcome you in again someday -- we're sure we can take it up a notch for you! All the best, Pa-Nash Restaurant and Lounge
