Alma-Ata was the host city for a 1978 international conference on Primary Health Care where the Alma Ata Declaration was adopted, marking a paradigm shift in global public health. In 1997, the government relocated the capital to Astana in the north of the country, which is about 12 hours away by train.

Seafood restaurant "Del Mar" replaced "Porto Maltese", new owner said to be the Italian, while kitchen and wait staff are the Serbs.We visited this restaurant twice. Mixed feelings, really.Pros.Service is unobtrusive and professional, very attentive.Fish soup, fish, both grilled and baked in salt, was very delicious, cooked to perfection.Wine list, though not that extensive, had varieties to cater to different tastes.Cons.Pasta and risotto with seafood were well below average. The taste of not so fresh, frozen mussels and shrimps was not pleasant.Fresh fish prices are just ridiculously high, get ready to pay 100+ USD per 1 kg of ordinary fish.Restaurant interior doesn't match high price level... Conclusions.1. If you want to have fresh fish, skilfully cooked and served and ready to pay for it a very high pirce, while dining in 3* premises, Del Mar can be a good option.2. Avoid seafood pasta and seafood risotto.

I was surprised by this beautiful place in Almaty, I didn't expect to find such a nice Italian restaurant with beautiful interiors and attentive service. The real unexpected thing is the level of the cuisine. We were almost 20 Italians and nobody was disappointed. Well, to be honest everybody was happy of the meals we had. I recommend this place to all the ones who want a bite of Italy in the heart of Asia!

Extremely good food! I have tried both - fish and meat parts of this restaurant. When you are there, I suggest to try there turbot fish (one for two persons at least) and potato soup. While the list of wines is very long, I'd suggest to add couple more draft beer brands in menu, just three not very famous ones is little short.Anyway, first time while being here I put the highest rate for all metrics - service, food and value.

We walked 5 blocks from our Hotel Kazzhol up to this restaurant specializing in all types of seafood. A waitress out front escorted us to an interior table and picture menus detailed in English arrived quickly. After ordering, a serving of bread and butter arrived followed by our pot of green tea. After ~10 minutes our grilled tilapia with lemon was served, one with fries and the other with spinach. The portions were generous, cooked perfectly and served by an attentive waiter who spoke some English. Property is spotless including the restroom. Our bill included a required 10% tip totaling 5687 Kzt=~$15, and in our opinion offers good value.

Nice and friendly restaurant, located inside the big shopping center Dostyk Plaza . Big place , good quality of fish , several options to offer to the customers. Kept very clean . In case someone needs , toilets are inside the restaurant. Good option .
