Cafe Ilocandia

It is common for tourist guides and drivers to recommend Fort Ilocandia when touring the southern part of Laoag which includes Paoay Church and the Malacanang of the North. The hotel and restaurant has a character that is exceptional from high rise hotels in NCR or cebu. After a short tour around the hotel compound, we had afternoon snack at their cafe. It was not crowded because of slack reason for tourists and quite far from the city. But we were not disappointed with the serving size and taste of what we ordered. Palabok was very tasty, as well as the crepe and beverages.

Eagle's Nest Restaurant

This restaurant inside Java Hotel had a cool, classy 'bahay-kubo' vibe. Surpisingly, it was big enough for events and receptions, and the menu offered lots of different dishes, mainly highlighting the authentic Ilocano cuisine which is a plus plus for me. At dinner, the bagbet and bagnet were exemplary, and was further amplified by charming indie musicians. However, when we had breakfast, the serving was a tad minimalistic--you know, not for the hungry Filipino kind of thing. Another thing was that although the waitresses and waiters were hospitable, we waited for 45min for our tapsilog and mango juice, only to be further disappointed that the serving was--cute. But overall, the fact that it had great food and a cozy ambiance compensates for this hopefully one-time disappointing encounter.

The reviews on various forums, gush over this place. The only reason we sought it out. They had a very pathetic one portion of mixed empanada and three pcs of vegetable empanada. Though we were early for lunch, they claimed to have run out of empanadas. Empanadas were tasteless. We also ordered noodles which were OK but again, not amazing. Service was horrible. The only positive over all was the colorful poster of their empanadasDear Ms. JavaMama58,Thank you for your review and feedback. Balay da Blas

Went to Laoag for a company outing - it's been years since I was in the Ilocos region. Stayed at Plaza del Norte Hotel but had lunch at Balay da Blas. We had bagnet and three more dishes. All were delicious. The finale was dessert: banana-sweet potato with hot molasses. I forgot what it was called but it was certainly my first time to try it. The restaurant seems a bit pricey for a city like Laoag but certainly worth it. Service was fast and impeccable. Ambience was relaxing. It serves local and international dishes. There are small rooms for diners so there is a bit of privacy. Service was fast and impeccable. I would definitely be back at Balay da Blas.

This was a fun dining experience, because on top of the good food that they served they also had us wear stick on mustaches and top hats and took a photo of us channeling the "Juan Luna" vibe. Service was good too.We ordered several dishes, but the miki was my favorite - and I think it says something about a restaurant if they can elevate something very simple to a dish you'd want to keep coming back for. Also worth trying are the bagnet sandwich and pasta verde. Paella was a bit bland though.

Herencia Garden Restaurant

During my stay in Laoag, I visited this restaurant twice. The first time was a lovely time. Aside from their delicious pinakbet pizza, dinuguan and homemade buko pandan ice candy, the place was quiet and staff service was highly commendable. However when I came back on a peak hour, we waited for an hour for a table and service was horrendous. This restaurant is not prepared for a big crowd. If that’s the case, I suggest not to go on a peak season or if you’re in the area, buy the Ilocoano empanada across the restaurant. It is delicious and will save you a lot of headache.

We ordered Poque Poque Pizza, Dragon Fruit Lumpia, and Dinakdakan. They were delicious and just right. Their chili oil is really spicy and just the perfect add on to the pizza. Recommended for first time visitors. Ambiance is also a plus. Only reason for the 4 stars is price was more on the pricey side than expected. But good nonetheless.
