Not much more to say really ... good varied menu focusing on local ingredients. Several menu options as is typical in France which are economical if you want three courses (we didn’t). Food was lovely. Had a lovely rose Cremant d’Alsace and a local Pinot noir helped by the staff recommendation/ information. Recommended.

From outside, this auberge looks quite standard. Step inside and let this family run business exceed your expectations. Everything is freshly prepared and Marie-Pierre delights in describing the dishes on offer. While you wait, take some time to explore the treasure trove of historic menus displayed on the walls. The food is expertly prepared and they will also guide you towards an optimum wine selection, based on your tasting preferences rather than prices. A thoroughly enjoyable evening

Our concierge made our luncheon reservation, which was a terrific idea.....otherwise there were probably 30 people lining the stairs to the downstairs cave location off a picturesque alley from Rue Charles de Gaulle.....they honored our reservation and tooks us directly in; quite nice in the midst of the annual Christmas Market on a Saturday. We enjoyed our meal with very a very reasonably priced wine list. The Riquewihrienne (Charcoute Green) was excellent....made from partially cured thin cabbage rather than fully cured sauerkraut, and the sausages, pork belly and ham were all tasty....nice escargot, and the cordon blue with mushroom cream sauce also was tasty. Very nice and efficient staff despite the high demand on this relatively small place for lunch. Nice “cave” atmoshpere, complete with the traditional hanging sign of a cross-bowman outside.

After a hot week, the air conditioning in the downstairs enclosed room was understandable but too cold. The staff were very friendly and drinks and first course were timely. But the main meal arrived too quickly. We asked for a pause before dessert and then had to wait and wait to get their attention. End of the evening, but it was a negative Food was a bit too 'fussy', but good. The various priced menus gave good value. The place doesn’t get the tourist groups and is to be recommended for a reasonable value meal

The flavours and quality in this food is amazing. Food exceeded (high) expectations, because it was not pretentious or gimmicky (no violet foam or dry ice) but simply well-put together, delicious, well-flavoured, well-cooked, well-chosen ingredients. We treated ourselves to the degustation (tasting menu) at 99 euros each plus wine (we did not go for a really expensive wine, but the wine we had was great anyway). This was a really good way to sample the dishes in the restaurant - they told us in advance what it would be (e.g. duck foie, eel, lobster etc.) so that we could say if there was anything we didn't want - also helped us choose a wine. We didn't ask for any changes so that we could try things as the chef intended, and we were very happy. It was not an excessive amount to eat, though we did feel rather full afterwards (beware - you get yummy amuse-bouche before you've even selected a meal, then even the bread rolls are irresistable!). We could have done without as many as 6 desserts to taste! There were two really lovely desserts on a plate first (e.g. scrumptious caramelised pears), but then four pairs of two mini-desserts offered on a slate which we were not so impressed by - in retrospect I would rather just have stopped at the first two. But this is a minor criticism - it was a pleasure to eat here and I'm glad I had this experience in my life. (Reservation advised but may not always be necessary - we were there on Easter Sunday and there were tables free)

Other reviews spurred us to try Caveau des Rois. We visited Riquewihr late in the day and found this during our exploration of the town. Although we didn't have a reservation, they accommodated us without a problem. We had traditional Alsatian cuisine, including Choucroute Garnie and Tarte Flambee, paired with a local Alsatian riesling. Both were excellent, but the Creme Brûlée for dessert was heavenly. Reasonably priced and would recommend without hesitation.

WOW...absolutely amazing tasting menu with wine flight....flavours from each dish EXPLODED in your mouth. The sommelier did a great job choosing the wines for each dish. The only wine I struggled with, was the orange flavoured one. It smelt amazing, like roses, but was the most bitter wine I have tasted. However, when drunk with the dish, lobster, the taste really worked...Let's just say, if I die tonight, I die a really happy man!!!!

Whilst the food we had here was perfectly adequate, our evening was completely ruined by the dreadful service and poor attitude shown by the waiting staff. We sat down and ordered at 7.20 and by 9.00, having had our starters, were still waiting for our main courses. When they finally came I expressed (politely) our dissatisfaction, but again we ended up waiting to have those plates cleared away and the offer of dessert. By this time it was too late and I eventually managed to catch the eye of the waitress who offered no apology and was really quite rude in her manner, She said they were busy (which they weren't), but in my experience and opinion, restaurants shouldn't have more covers than they can cope with, and should certainly be more polite when customers are understandably frustrated. The table next to us were having similar issues, and they also left without ordering dessert or more drinks.
